You pour five liters into the five liter jug. Then, you move three liters over to the three liter jug. Empty the three liter jug and pour the remaining two liters into it. Now, fill the five liter jug up. Pour one liter into the three liter jug, filling it and leaving you with four.
This is an old computer science puzzle.
