the magikarp before mount moon you can buy? (blue, red, and maybe yellow vers)

Is it just me or does anyone else always buy it, and try to have a gyarados before fighting misty?

Might just be you.

I've always got my Bulbasaur and Pikachu for that.

yeah i almost always pick charmander then catch a pidgey.  I beast through brock with with charmander and then use gyarados to beast misty, then i never really pickup a new pokemon untill eevee (jolteon) and snorlax, just hm slaves.

You may not think so, but getting pokemon I've never had is really fun and instead of always picknig charmander etc. mix it up a little, it is fun to see them, evolve and see their new moves.

I never buy that Magikarp... why buy one when a couple of hours later you can have an old rod and get a similar, if not better Magikarp?

And the pokemon I have by then are enough to go through the game without Gyarados.
