i beat it without butterfree =P but i used mankey charmeleon pigeotto spearow nidorino and pikachu.......thank you for the advice though.
and i am trying to beat the old rod challenge any tips?

the reason those codes dont work is because there is a new on after a while for a new shiny

First use Geodude with defense curl. then when you're close enought to where the borderline Geodide is magnituding Send out Pidgey and have Geodude switch over to Mud sport when Pidgey is close enough. Repeat this until your energy runs out, but only repeat when the two fail in that "run".
