Crafting items seems like a weird idea. Very difficult to balance too...
Putting it in the hands of people who have already proven to be better than a lot of others?
Kinda makes the rich richer, doesn't it?

Tournments might have pokemon (shinies even :O) , items and money as the rewards.
One idea I thought of was free move tutor tokens.

I understand that it would be difficult to balance, and that's why you would only let the top-level of players do it. They'd know what the game needs (and I guess the devs would too, but the players might think of something the devs didn't), and they wouldn't abuse the right. And even if they did, the devs have every right to say 'no' and give them money or a shiny or something instead.
Also, it wouldn't be exclusive to that player. It might be a quest reward or something similar, or a prize in future tournaments if it was really good (although I doubt that sort of item would be approved in the first place).
Anyway, it was just a suggestion I thought of that might make things more interesting.

If it was to be tested, it would be tested by the developers, and then likely by a select few beta testers. We wouldn't test it by releasing it straight into the game to players we don't know :)

Yeah, well obviously throwing unregulated items into the game for anyone to take has drastic consequences (It's happened quite a few times in MTG), and so they would be tested, but still, I think it could be a valid idea to consider. :)
