Quiver Dance to be made a bit like Shell Smash?

(1/3) > >>

Bing:
Well, after talking with Shadowfred about the nerf to Shell Smash.  I started thinking about other moves that raise 3 stats.

Quiver Dance while similarly raising three stats, has no downside.  Shell Smash makes your pokemon more fragile, by lowering defence.

We then talked about why Shell Smash has the lowered defense.  And it's about the feel of the move, you break your shell and gain a boost but, because the shell is gone so is your defense.

Well when you dance you tend to swing around and can sometimes be disoriented, You're defiantly not paying attention to your surroundings.

We then talked about having QD maybe lowering the Pokemon's Accuracy as a way to fit the feel of the move and balance it in the shell smash style.

This also makes the move more tactical and interesting to use.

Well anyway, It's just an Idea.  I personally think any move that boosts three stats should have some downside to it.  Because if one does then they all should.

What do you guys think?

Noah_Road:
Before I say anything, its only fair to note that anything I say about QD will be extremely biased...

Quiver Dance is the bane of me; always has and probably always will be. Realistically, there isn't much you can do to nerf QD. When a butterfly dances, it usually makes a horizontal motion without any spinning--so an accuracy decrease wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. That being said, I think there should be some kind of drawback to a move so great. A defence drop would be nice. Another way to make QD a bit less OP is to either prevent the move from granting a Sp.Def boost or speed boost to make it more akin to Dragon Dance. Distribution to other pokemon would also be nice sicnce there are many dancing pokemon who should probably get the move (Spinda, Lopunny, Gardevoir, Ludicolo).

Roloc:
I definitely do not agree that it should lower accuracy.

Last I heard though they were going to take away one of the stat boots. so we shall see.
I think +1spatk +1spe would be just fine. It will then be like dragon dance.

genbor:
Well it's true it might go well with the whole "being disoriented" feel. But then again, other move raises would have to get some sort of downside. As in Dragon Dance would need to lower the accuracy too for it being a dance... etc. Well I say what Roloc does. It seems easier to just get it to +1spatt +1 spe.

Bing:
Well, this isn't aimed at Quiver Dance solely.  The idea is that any move that will raise three stats should have some downside to it.  And to keep balance moves like Shell Smash and QD should either have a downside or not.

It just seems a bit unfair to have one move that lowers a pokemon's defense while the other pretty much does the same thing but, has no down to it.

I just think if a move is going to raise at least three stats or give a +3 boost in general. (Can be distributed to any stats, ex: +2 Attack, +1 speed or +3 anyting)  There should be some downside.

I mean look at belly drum.  You get a +6 boost.  But, you lose a lot of HP.

I just think anything that gives a +3 boost or more should have some downside to it.

Oh and dragon dance and others similar are fine.  They give a +2 boost, which is what shell smash gives you.  +1 Attack, +1 Special attack, +1 Speed, -1 Defense.  That equals a +2 Boost overall.
