I believe the best steel that I like would be Metagross. Its stats aren't that bad, and is very well rounded IMO

Metagross is by far the best steel type for me. It's an excellent physical sweeper, and nothing beats pulling the last ditch effort card that is Explosion to wipe the grin off someone's face (Mine doesn't have it though, due to the competitive clauses and such that I think work well for battling).
Scizor also has some competitive worth from what I've tried and seen, even though it's not on any of my teams. Plus, it has one of the cooler designs of the 2nd gen. :D

As for Steelix..... there's much better walls from my experience, I can tell you that. And that's all I can really ever see it being any use for.

I'm surprised so many people are saying Registeel when the first post clearly said no legendary pokemon...

But anyways, my favorite steel pokemon would have to be Forretress. It has solid stats defense wise and can have some pretty good move sets considering the attacks that it learns.

(That, and I'm pretty sure nobody has picked it yet).

Adding the fighting type just adds more weaknesses to Pokemon, and doesn't really add many resistances. However, Lucario does have good stats.

Not to mention his natural move pool.

Aura Sphere, Force Palm, Close Combat, Psychic, Dark Pulse, etc.
By loving so many, I have touched their lives and helped them rebirth as well. To be strong is to instill strength in another.

These are all great suggestions. I'm trying to become an amazing Steel trainer.

My fav is Aron, because he is the cutest little thing, until he grows up and rapes your face! "Iron Tail!"

but I guess the best would have to be: Metagross.  Because I think he can levitate, and he has a high SpDe stat to help counter the fire
I have a broken leg and am stuck in a hospital till July 2!  At least i have a laptop.

Aggron is a good steel type. It gets STAB base 150 power head smash with no recoil because of rock head. its only downside is 4x weakness to fighting and ground.
I like slowpoke.

There are several good steel types in my opinion. Skarmory has great defense and is a well known physical tank. Bronzong is also an excellent tank. Metagross is a heavy hitter with a priority move that can take a few hits as well.

Scizor is an excellent sweeper that can also tank a bit with its many resistances and recovery through roost. Empoleon has one of the highest number of resistances out there, and also a good movepool.

Steel is a good tough type, and one of my favorites.

Gah, all steel types are batsh*t annoying to fight without water-based attacks! I say Bronzong, only because it was by far the hardest steel type I ever took out.
But if we want to be technical, it would be Arceus as a steel type.

Arceus is kind of an exception because it can be any type, but I consider it a normal type because it's the default type.

Steelix easily! He personifies what a steel type is all about. Great defense and decent attack.

You might say steel is like a hardcore rock type. More resistances, and the stat distribution is similar. The weaknesses are different, though, except for ground and fighting.
