You would think, but a staff is a large weapon, not maneuverable in tight spaces. Modern bow staffs have ben greatly reduced in size, and with blades on the ends, that would not be possible here. You'd have to keep your enemy back, or carry something to fight close range.

Humen, a bowstaff is pretty much just a regular staff, to what I know. Your advantages depend on the length of your weapon. I was under the impression that it was a shorter weapon, and not a full-length staff. However, if it IS the full length of a staff, then it's a different fighting style.
Anyway, Kyrie, being an ax, has a longer(ish) reach and is more powerful, but slower.
