What the hell is this karma stuff actually (been out of PU for a while)?

Jerry:
Basically a system where you can give/remove 1 point from a user's profile by clicking on the up/down arrows below the user's post count in a post.

So, you can just give/remove points from someone's points balance. For example, you could give or remove points based on how useful/helpful a post is.
