Lunartic:
Alex felt Jessie tense up at Dagen’s last remark. Jessica...

She shot a glare at Alex.

Please.

A quiet moment passed. Alex let go of her sister, who let out a defeated sigh. ”Let’s go.”

The two left the lab in silence.

”Alex?”

“What now?”

”You didn’t answer my question from last time. How did we get a horse?”

Alex let out a tired sigh. ”Same reason why we’re fighting a kishin in the middle of the night? I don’t know.”

Jessie let out a dissatisfied grunt. ”Are we going the right way?”

Alex didn’t answer. You’re the one with the map...

”I know I have the map! I was just . . . thinking aloud.” Jessie laid the unfolded map on Alex’s back - forcing her to lean over a bit - as she traced their path on it with her finger. ”Hmm, let’s see, we just passed this, turn left there,” she muttered under her breath. ”Ah-ha! We should be-”

”-almost there,” said Alex. ”Covered bridge, up ahead.”

The forest’s green-gray mist seemed to part before them, revealing a weathered and rickety bridge spanning a creek down the road.

”Hey Alex - stop that! This is serious! Remember what that old guy said back there?”

”Umm, he said…”

”’Don’t cross the covered bridge or the rider will have your soul.’ Or something like that. Point is, he was probably talking about that one up ahead.”

Alex shrugged. ”So? What are you expecting, the Headless Horseman to come out and try to kill us?”

”. . . yeah!”

”Don’t be ridiculous Jessie,”

”Excuse me? We’re in a forest outside the actual Sleepy Hollow in the middle of the night hunting a kishin egg, and in case you’ve forgotten what those are too, they devour souls. And considering how we’ve fought Mecha Mole-solini and a Kenkhis Ghan cosplayer who thought he was the actual guy’s ancestor, not to mention how Warren and Silene fought someone who thought he was Kreddy Frueger, and that Hason’s kishin egg was a walking diving suit with a giant anchor, the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow doesn’t sound that far off to me!”

Alex took a few seconds to think about what her sister just said. It really did sound quite believable, actually. Still, he couldn’t actually be headless. ”Right. So are you saying we shouldn’t fight him?”

”No, I’m saying we should be aware that we’re fighting The Headless Horseman.”

”Okay . . . here’s the plan. See the roof over the bridge? I’m going to toss you up there, as a weapon of course, and then ride across. When I see the horseman, I’ll ride back towards the bridge and jump up from the horse, then you’ll pull me up onto the roof. Then we’ll kill him from up there.”

”Alex-”

”Now what?” Alex turned around to look at her sister sitting behind her, then followed her pointing finger to the bridge. Standing across it was a cloaked man on a black horse, menacingly staring at them. Which was made even more terrifying by how he had no head to stare with.

”Alex! Alex, run! Get us out of here!”

She didn’t need anything else.

Their little brown horse was a surprising match for the much larger steed, but it was slowly gaining on them. Alex was doing her best to shoot behind her, but her arrows were going wide. Each miss made the horseman laugh louder and harder, seeping fear further and further into Alex’s skull.

Shooting backwards isn’t working Alex.

Really? What gave it away?!?

Head into the trees and get beside him, you’ll get a better shot from there.

Alex slung the bowstring over her torso and steered towards the thick mist lining the road, but as she did an orange explosion forced her away. ”The fuck was that?” She looked behind her: the horseman - no, the pumpkin in his hand cackled. He threw it at Alex, and she had to leap off the horse which took off into the thicket to avoid the pumpkin. Alex rolled to her feet and drew her bow, but the horseman was on her already. He swung a massive scythe at her, knocking her back and into a tree which came crashing down.

Alex lost her grip on Jessie, and she flew even further back, ricocheting off a couple trees and getting stuck in a bush. She transformed back to a human and untangled herself. Alex was laying on the ground a good fifty metres away, and the horseman was at least twice as far as that. This part of the forest was too thick for him to bring his horse, so he dismounted and slowly made his way towards the girls. Jessie tore through brush and leaped over fallen trees, doing everything in her power to reach her sister before The Headless Horseman did.

”Alex!” she yelled, only a few metres away. ”Alex, get up!” She was breathing, but not moving. There was no time to assess her wounds, so Jessie picked up her unconscious sister, slung her over a shoulder, and ran back the way she came. She could hear the horseman start slicing through the bush now, tearing a path towards them, coming closer and closer. ”Come on Alex, wake up…”

...put...me...down...

”Alex! Are you okay?”

I said... “Put. Me. Down.”

Jessie didn’t need to be told again.

She practically leaped into Alex’s arms, who shot arrow after arrow into the lumbering horseman. Each shot slowed him down, but his laughter pursued. Finally, he reached up, cackling pumpkin in hand, ready to bring it down at his feet and take them both with him. But before it was smashed, Alex put an arrow through it, sending it flying backwards and lodging it in a tree.

The pumpkin didn’t find that very funny.

”Jessie.”

Yeah?

Alex dropped her sister, who transformed back to a human. ”I’m going to faint.”

Jessie caught her before she collapsed, chuckling to herself. ”Let’s get you home, I’ll pick up a pumpkin spice latte for you on the way." She picked up the soul the horseman's dead body dropped as she passed by it. It smelled like raw pumpkin and rotting flesh. "... gross."

Tickles:
Dagen and Malencia walked through a small side street in Paris. Their target was that of a master alchemist, who was said to be seen turning people and their souls into gold.

So, Mortecai just let you have this three star mission?

If by let, you mean I nabbed the briefing off of his desk when I seen it, then yes. This guy has to be worth ten, maybe fifteen kishin egg souls alone. I read the entire thing.

Malencia stopped, and brought her hand to her forehead, seemingly rubbing away a headache. So, you're telling me that you stole a mission for something that can be potentially out of our league? And you actually read the entire briefing?

Ok, I skimmed over. All I know is, he is supposed to be ugly. At least that's how I imagined him. A guy that turns people to gold must have a good case of the not getting laid anytime soon.

Good, you can join him. We're going through drills for the next month because of this. Do you realize how much trouble we could get...

Her thought was interrupted as a gold statue of a person fell from the sky. The two looked up to peer into the face of a man wearing a solid gold mask. He was heavily armored all around his body, save for areas where he needed movement. In his right hand was a large glowing red orb, and in his left was a scepter of some kind. The being was breathing heavily, his large stature barely standing on the building. He gazed upon the weapon and meister, and only uttered a whisper that sounded like "More power..."

Found him!

Dagen transformed into his weapon form, and malencia took aim, but the being was gone. She stood on her guard, only to have the very earth under her move, tossing her towards a luxury shop. As she crashed through the window, the being followed in, destroying the wall in the process. He slammed his scepter on the ground, erecting a cement cage that trapped the two.

Dagen, you're an idiot, you know that?

You gonna punish me for being a bad boy?

Malencai rolled her eyes, and blasted the cage open, jumping out of it as the creature tried to fire some kind of beam from the orb. She took aim and used barrage shot, which barely seemed to affect him. The alchemist responded by firing another beam of energy at her, hitting her in the side, which turned part of her clothing into gold.

MY UNIFORM! You're going to pay. Dagen, how much do you think this place costs?

Who cares, no one will know we destroyed it and the surrounding area. Unless you focus my fire right, we may only destroy everything behind this walking iron penis.

I'll take those odds

Malencia's eyes turned red, and Dagen began to glow. The two went into their resonance, causing the being to become curious. He stood an watched the spectacle, his scientific mind taking over. He wanted to see if he could add them to his collection in this very state. Too late, a barrage of explosive rounds began to destroy his armor, and eventually hit his fleshy parts. Wave after wave of explosions reduced him to a mere husk, and his soul silently fell to the ground, golden in color. Dagen transformed out, and looked at it closely.

Yep, this soul should give us a needed power boost.

His attention diverted to the merchandise in the shop. It just so happened to be a lingerie shop. He examined everything he could. He imagined what Jessie would look like in some of these items, and got lost in his daydream. Malencia shook him out of it.

Dagen, someone is here!

What?

A shadowy figure, holding a katana, was standing next to the soul. From the katana, an arm reached out, and the soul was devoured. In an instant, the two disappeared, as if they never existed at all. Someone had stolen the soul they almost died trying to get. Dagen looked dumbfounded, while Malencia released her frustration by punching a mannequin across the room.

So, that happened. Want to try on some of these things? Could be something in your size.

Must your mind always return to sex. We have a bigger issue at hand. let's just head home. I need to sleep this off

The two walked back to the transport terminal, and prepared for the trip back to the island. Both disappointed in their own way.

Lunartic:
GM Edit

Six months have passed, and our heroes have gained more souls, and new abilities. Reports have risen about mysterious people stealing souls. Carter has taken to this by offering a reward for the capture of these thieves. Now, we see what is in store for the students in Mortecai's class.

Silene woke up rather suddenly, sitting upright, unable to move or see. The air was cold and musty. Her entire body ached. She licked her lips: dry, cracked, and irony. Bloody. The last thing she remembered was going to bed angry at Warren, but he wouldn’t do this to her. Whatever this was. Footsteps behind her sent chills down her spine. They circled around her, heels clicking on a metallic floor. They stopped in front of her. She felt a leather  brush her cheek, moving down to her chin and lightly holding it, bringing it up.

”Look at what he did to you,” said a smooth, seductive male voice. ”Let’s clean some of this up.” He let go and walked away, still talking. ”There’s not much I can do about the cuts or bruise, but the blood can be cleaned.” He walked back. Silene felt a warm, wet cloth on her mouth. She was too scared to move. ”I feel like a mother, cleaning up her infant child after a meal. There, good as new.” He took the cloth and walked back to where he got it from. He walked around a bit more, shuffling papers around, moving large objects. Then he stopped.

”Smile, honey.”

Click.

”You’re on camera.”

The-Blades-slave:
Ergh... What the hell happened? Warren groggily sat up, rubbing his temples; he had the worst migraine. What time is it? He fumbled for his phone on the nightstand beside him, wincing at the sudden burst of light as it switched on. "Damn it, late again..." Groaning, the meister lifted himself off the couch and stumbled to the bathroom and slipped into the shower.

When he was clean and free of the lingering scent of vomit and alcohol, Warren shoved his jacket on and headed to class. The outside air bit into him, frozen Northern wind chilling his damp skin to the bone - drying his hair would have been beneficial, but he was distracted. 'She was just trying to help and I hurt her, like always.' The meister came to a stop outside of Mortecai's classroom, staring at the door. 'I've got to fix this.'

Warren shouldered the door open, glancing over at their normal seats. The entire row was empty, which was mostly normal; no students generally sat around him because of his tendencies, so the row was reserved for them, but Silene wasn't there. His heart jumped into his throat and he scanned the rest of the room for her. No, she wasn't sitting with any of her friends. She was gone.

Numbly walking to his seat, Warren was confused. He had been trying to get her to leave him since they met, so why did the thought that she actually had terrify him so much? He slouched down, head hitting the desk. 'You did it. You chased off the only person who gave a damn about you, good job Warren.'

Desbear:
Mortecai's class; Something I assumed would get better, but honestly, never did. I had noticed that Warren and Silene hadn't gotten here yet, but I had assumed something just kept them up. About halfway... No, a quarter into the lesson, Warren walked into the class room, and he had a strange look to him. He looked almost depressed, or mopey. I mean, sure, he always looked depressed, but even this is off for him, it was like depression times two. Furthermore, Silene wasn't following him, and the whole situation was just all around a bit strange.

It was strange enough, that even Steven nudged me, mentioning that Warren looked off, and that Silene was missing, two observations that I had already made. At this point, my attention was focused on Warren; Not because of him being mopey or anything, but for the reason that everyone else was; He had the audacity to show up to Mortecai's class late. And I, for one, was curious as to the consequences.
