Ok, so you'll discover who the narrator is... if you can guess it that is ~~~~~~ Once again, the feeling of loneliness crept over me. This time, I didn't have my parents close to me, nobody to cheer me up. I passed by the giant planets again, clinging to my memory in a desperate attempt to bring my parents back, trying to think good thoughts, trying to feel happy again just by looking at the planets. All were in vain; I simply could not forget what had just happened to me. The dream I had a some time ago turned into the worst nightmare I had ever had. As I let myself go, I got further from my parents, further from the dreams, but the sorrow that filled my heart would not go away. In all quietness, I closed my eyes. Cold slowly engulfed me and entered my body. I could still remember the good times I had spent with my parents at home, their wise teachings about the universe, and started to wonder why it had all happened to me and my parents. With those thoughts, my heart hardened and became bitter towards this cruel fate, and I slowly fell into a deep sleep. I was woken up by a stranger. The space around me was still as cold, and I did not want to talk to anybody. The 'wayfarer' as he called himself asked me why I was not replying to him. I stayed solemn, so he started telling about the adventures he had had as wayfarer in space. He narrated how he started as a young enthusiastic adventurer, how he wanted to get to know new areas, make new discoveries. He mentioned that the most beautiful thing he had ever seen was a giant 'supernova'. He explained that this is a rare occasion when a particular star dies and bursts into a spectacular cloud of multicoloured gas. The visitor then laughed and said that he had been fortunate to be very far away from that blast, for he would otherwise not be here to tell the tale. He noticed the sudden sorrow on my face and seemed to be able to read my thoughts. With a soothing voice, he said that he was deeply sorry, but that I should not be in such a state. He told me that life had its vicissitudes that we cannot fight and that my parents had given their lives for me. He convinced me that my parents would not be happy to see me in such a condition and asked me to show him that their sacrifice was not vain. Upon those words, my heart warmed, and the ice isolating it from the universe started to melt. “Look!” he exclaimed. In front of us lay a splendid scene. Apparently, a star had died some time ago, and the gas that had remained around it was shining. It announced the birth of a new star, the wayfarer explained. For the time being, the gases would remain that way, and he said that, amazingly, it formed a legendary figure. He told me that he had once heard a story of a bird which could be born again from its ashes, and that bird was called 'phoenix'. As I contemplated the beauty before my eyes, I was speechless. For a long time, I accompanied the wayfarer across space, discovering even more and learning a lot from him; he eventually became my best friend. One day, he told me that he was looking for a particular planet where strange creatures with immense knowledge lived. It was his last will as wayfarer to visit that planet named Earth. As he talked to me, he showed it to me. It was indeed a beautiful planet, of a deep blue colour and partially covered with what seemed like a bright green velvet. He told me that it is very likely that he will never be able to come back again, and made me promise that I will continue exploring space. We parted and I watched him go. As he approached Earth, he started to glow, as if his soul was shining. Slowly, his body dissolved, into countless glowing pieces like those of a shooting star. Finally he disappeared, his wish fulfilled. I was happy to have met the wayfarer. It was my turn now, my turn to take his title of wayfarer and spread all the knowledge that I had to the ones I would meet. I will not fail in my duty of wayfarer nor fail in my promise. I realised the real purpose of life, why sometimes it can be harsh, but at other times it is very generous. We need only to open our hands and accept the gift offered to us. I just could not let sorrow prevail over me, not after all the trials I had gone through. Everything has its purpose, and, like the phoenix, I will rise from the ashes! [~1600 words total Part 1 & 2] ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay, that's it! Thanks for reading through EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to separate my paragraphs to make it more readable

Since everybody is posting some of their writing, I'll post mine too... I have one that's quite long that I did in a contest some time ago... but for some reason, the judges didn't receive any writing from my age group... (I know and am sure that there are many other students of my age who submitted their writing). Any way, here's the first part.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ever since I was born, I have been surrounded by my mother and my father. We led a happy life looking at the sky, its vastness and countless twinkling white dots. My father told me that they are called stars and were the most beautiful things in the universe. I spent so much time gazing at them, wondering whether I would be able to get nearer to a star one day. I would be able to contemplate its beauty and perhaps even bring one home. The closest star to us shines with an amazing white aura, which makes me feel at the same time comfortable and warm. I never thought that one day, I would be able to set off for an adventure through space... the multitude of trials that I would have to endure... that day was nigh!
As I was gazing to one particular shiny star, a dark silhouette veiled the star and seem to approach at high speed. “Daddy! Daddy! What is that thing!?” My father just had the time to glance at the sky and cringe. My mother noticed my father's strange behaviour and realised what was happening. I urged my parents to tell me what was happening. My father finally regained himself and tried to shield me, as did my mother, from something; something which seemed dangerous. Before I could say a whole sentence, a deafening noise filled our ears. The ground was shaking, but I could not see anything thanks to my parents. The earth, as if shaken by the universe itself, seemed to be opening under my feet. I closed my eyes, thinking of nothing but longing for the end of this plea. To my displeasure, the situation worsened. The land shook more violently until it collapsed under the pressure, then all of a sudden, burst. We were forcefully projected skywards. I was flying, as light as the breeze.
When I finally opened my eyes, my parents were beside me and allowed me to have a look around. We were in space! As I looked back, I saw what remained of the place we lived; debris was scattering in all directions The tremor could still be felt a little from afar, and the chaotic scene told me that my home would never be as it was again. By that time, we were approaching the white star. Its blinding light enveloped the three of us and its warmth comforted us from our loss. After a while, we got past it, and things were getting gradually darker. Soon, the star seemed to be a mere dot like the other stars in the sky. Space was cold, very cold, and the absence of sound was completely different from the previous uproar. A feeling of loneliness and being lost started growing in my heart, then flowed through my body. I could feel the sentiment of sorrow in both my father and my mother, but we all kept silent as a bereavement to our recent loss.
As we drifted through the empty space, we came close to huge bodies similar to my home. My mother explained that they were called planets. She further told me that there were millions in the universe like those in the universe, but only a few were safe to live on. We saw these huge spheres with spectacular colours, others in one colour only, and my favourites had a magnificent flat ring surrounding them. It was surprising to see how thin that ring was, but still was of so delightful a tint. For the first time in my life, I was living a real adventure and making unbelievable discoveries. The feeling of loneliness was drowned before the splendour that stretched before me. This was perhaps the best moment of my life, where I experienced sheer bliss despite my lost home. I wondered if others before me had seen those majestic bodies and had felt the same. At last my soul regained the feeling of security and comfort.
Once more, fate presented us with a woeful trial in front of us. It hardly gave us some time to breathe before it decided to unleash his powers against us. We felt ourselves being drawn by an invisible force. Our backs were becoming warm -- that same familiar feeling we had had earlier. The star of those planets was right behind us, and we were moving towards it! We tried our best to change direction, but in vain. That star was too powerful for us. It was then that my father and my mother made the hardest decision of their lives. They knew if they pushed me to safety, they would not be able to stay with me. I pleaded them not to do it, but they said it was the only way out. They unwillingly pushed me away from them. I moved to the left while they moved to the right. Even though the thrust drove me away from danger, my parents were not as lucky. The star pulled harder on them, and my last sight of them was the fading of their shadows in the vast ocean of light.
Well, as suggested a little earlier, I've decided to make this thread for those who want to chat and catch up later if they want to, an option they cannot usually do on the IRC. You can talk about anything in here, your life, pokemon, your peeves, etc, just chit chat. But don't forget, don't be rude, or spam the thread. Just have fun in chatting, as I know that some of you might get quickly bored. Come on, don't hesitate to talk about anything and everything . Another thing to keep in mind is that Forum Rules and Etiquette still apply. PS: Post count is off here, so, don't think that posting and posting in here will bring up your post count EDIT: If you find a troll, don't feed it. They don't deserve the soup
You know that when you have traded pokemon in your team, the pokemon would get boost experience, that is 150% of the experience your ordinary pokemon would get.
So, I was wondering if that was going to get implemented in PU, since that would encourage trading, and there will be a high risk that people would use only traded pokemon in their party, for easy training.
I prefer that to be 'off' though, as within an MMO, trading is so easy, hence, experience will be far easier when it comes to training pokemon.
Following the thread made eariler in the Ideas and Suggestions about what the game shouldn't have, I was wondering if there will be the 'obey/disobey' feature in pokemon that are too high in level for the current trainer level.
All players (presumably) are allowed to trade with anyone, and hence can get a high level pokemon in the process. If that pokemon turns out to be disobeying, this trading would be discouraged.
So, PU team?
As a spin off to my previous quest, this one can be taken only after beating the Byron quest. In the Casino of Spander city ( link to previous quest), there is a special coin machine that makes the user lose every time (s)he plays the machine. There is a gambler nearby who says: "This machine you see at the top, strangely, nobody won a simple coin from it. Rumours say that it's haunted by some spirit. Others say that something special happened if you lose to that machine 10 times in a row, but no one every spared his time to check whether that rumour were true or not." There you go, risk your coins for a quest. Indeed on the 10th trial, the machine will behave strangely. A message will pop up. "The machine you are using is out-out-out-of-of-of-or-or-or-der-der-der.... bzzzz * - ......" and sparks will be seen on the play screen, while a coin is dropped by the machine. You talk to the coin exchange cashier (sp?) and she will tell you that the machine was messed up long ago by a man, and it never worked. "There is always that weird coin which it throws. There is a strange symbol on it which cannot be exchanged. Nobody knows what is the use of that coin, so people have been throwing it away." When you examine the coin more closely, there is an odd symbol engraved in it. If you are a good observer, you'll notice [...]. Going back to his lair, you'll find that [...] What could that really mean? When you inspect the machines there you'll find some: "A machine built by Byron. It seems to have no use whatsoever." "A machine apparently used to extract electricity from Pokemon. The Pokemon don't seem to have enjoyed that machine." "A strange machine with a small slot having the size of a coin. Do you want to drop a coin in there?" Upon saying yes, and choosing the particular coin will activate the machine, opening [...] When you get in, you find a small library, presumably that of Byron, containing various information about himself. Reading the books (there are several books, under different headings, and you can choose to stop or continue reading after each entry): My Childhood"Day XX, Month XX. Today was another atrocious day. My classmates made fun of my pokesolar watch in which I had all my efforts. The only problem with that watch was that the hands went in the opposite direction but could still be used! I tried solving the problem, but in vain." "Day XX, Month XX. Today, my little sister, Lily got her first pokemon, a Treecko. She already set off for adventure while I'm still trying to work hard at the Prality School... Does she know anything about Pokemon? How can she just set off like that?" "Day XX, Month XX. I'm really desperate. Lily has been calling quite frequently and she already got her first badge, together with her evolved Treecko and some other Pokemon she caught during her journey. Should I drop school?" After I dropped school"Day XX, Month XX. Today, I found a cave just behind the waterfall, and I decided to make it my secret lair. I also found the workers at the power plant really friendly. They taught me a bunch about their strange machines." "Day XX, Month XX. I was running an errand today when I stumbled upon a whole lot of scientific books at the PokeCentre. They are so interesting! I think I'll start building my own machines." "Day XX, Month XX. The town is expanding, a gym has been built and more trainers are visiting the area. I even found some of my old classmates, and they still look down on me. I'll show them my true potential, I swear they'll regret their thoughts!" My Plan"Day XX, Month XX. A new casino is being built. I'll start my plan now. I'll modify one of those machines. Oh, I know. I'll hide something under the casino, my greatest invention of them all! Nobody will get the right combination of the machine. I would be the only one who knows the combination, and I will rule the world!" "Day XX, Month XX. My invention is nearly ready; it is buried under the casino. If ever I fail again, I'll unleash its power over all the people who made fun of me. All it needs now is some last modifications until it's fully operational." "Day XX, Month XX. Today I got a bright idea; I'm going to build a huge power station and provide power to all the inhabitants of the city first, then of the whole region. People will be forced to bow before me, or else, they'll receive no power. I'll send my army of electric pokemon against them and make them regret their insolence." "Day XX, Month XX. I forgot the most important thing... I need a pokemon to be able to catch all the other pokemon. The Byron ultimate weapon also needs a pokemon to be able to work at its fullest. Where to have one? How to have one?" [Note that Byron is mad and the things in his head might not always make sense] When you go to the casino, and press the buttons on the 'broken' machine in the reverse order each time you play, until you do it five times (for example, [l - left, m - middle, r - right] lmr, rml, lmr, rml, lmr) on the fifth trial, a message on the machine screen will appear. [if that can be implemented. It's a similar system as to the DPPt casino] {if not, make it like: 'use three coins first, then two, then one, then two then tree again'} "Door between shelves of library are open" If you then head off to Byron's lair again, you'll find that indeed a door has opened. When you go through, you'll see that the passage was covered up with tall grass, besides which a stream flows. Pokemon encounter here are quite frequent and are at relatively high level. At the end of the passage, you find Byron, his back to you, facing a huge machine. An exclamation mark will appear above his head. "What? You are here to ruin my plan again? I escaped prison with the help of Marowak, I fought my way out and this time, you will not be able to stop me!" He sends his buffed pokemon at you while he enters the machine. Pokemon:[...] Beat them one at a time in a row. When done, you'll find Byron in his machine. "Hahaha, I'll crush you like a mere bug!" he'll say. "!!!" His machine couldn't move because of the multiple grass knots tying it to the ground. With time, the vegetation grew and trapped the machine. He gets off the machine, red of anger and decides to flee. Follow him deeper in the cave, and a tiny maze will show up. Get through the maze, [...] Quest to be continued! Thanks for reading! Summary: - Lose ten times at a machine in casino - Get the coin to Byron's lair and find the machine in which it goes through - Find the right combination to open the door - Follow the underground path which leads to under the casino - Battle Byron's pokemon
I was wondering if there will be one (or more) casino(s) in the game... There are three types of different options as far as I know in the casinos:
The ever present coin machine Roulette (in RSE) Cards guess (in RBY/FRLG)
They were a way to get some good TMs and some rare pokemon too...
Ok, I've been wondering for some time now whether or not Happiness evolution will be in the game, like it is in the past pokemon games. Since in was first introduced in the GSC series some pokemon evolve through happiness, as do some moves depend on happiness (return, frustration).
The pokemon involved: Golbat > Crobat Chansey > Blissey Eevee > Espeon/Umbreon Pichu > Pikachu Cleffa > Clefairy Igglybuff > Jigglypuff Togepi > Togetic Azurill > Marill Budew > Roselia Buneary > Lopunny Chingling > Chimecho Munchlax > Snorlax Riolu > Lucario
My guess is 'you'll be implementing it' but you can also be planning something new...
How about it?
The title says it all. Natures were a way to balance pokemon in the game, removing 10% stat (final stat, not base stat) from one 'area' and adding it to another 'area'.
For example, the Hasty nature reduced the defense by 10% and increased the speed by 10%.
I don't think any thread was into the topic itself, but just touching slightly the subject.
I wonder if you'll be including the field abilities of pokemon. All of it started in Emerald. Cute Charm field effect: Boosts chances to get opposite gender pokemon. Sticky hold: Eases using the rod for fishing. Intimidate: Reduces chances to encounter pokemon. Hustle: Increases chances to get higher level pokemon. And some others I forgot... I know it might be new to some, I'm just putting my 2 cents
I have noticed that many members are now talking about how to change the battling styles of the game.
- linking moves - support skills - balancing the stats etc.
I think that pokemon battles should remain the same. Since the first games (RBY) up to the latest ones (HGSS) the battling style is the same, when looking at the stats.
Yes, they introduced items in the game to make battling more interesting... Yes, they further introduced natures and abilities in the game... These are already to balancing, in some way, the pokemon differences!
If you are really keen on introducing those features, I suggest you make them temporary, and to do so, they should be in tournaments only (or perhaps minigames also) where there will be those facilities and handicaps. The player would be free to choose the feature (s)he likes and enjoy it there.
The only change that I would really like is making the terrain an advantage, or disadvantage. This doesn't really affect the pokemon itself, but the battle. The terrain is there already, why not make use of it?
For example, a plain will give a slight boost to ground, normal pokemon, a lake/river/sea would benefit water pokemon, a volcano, fire pokemon, a mountain rock pokemon, in a building psychic, electric, fighting pokemon, in the forest, grass and bug pokemon, etc.
Tournaments could have this feature. This will add to the randomness and adaptation of the trainer to different situations.
Sorry, I just needed to say that.
I was wondering how would a player battling someone or a wild pokemon would appear to another player.
Eg. P
-Player 1 goes into grass and sees a weedle. While battling, player 2 comes along. Does player 2 see player one immobile in the grass?
-Player 1 is battling against player 2. Player 3 comes along. Does player 3 see the two trainers facing each other?
Or will they just disappear temporarily for the other players?
As a side note, if they remain visible to other players, we could perhaps include pokemon sprites. Since they will be immobile, only one sprite in each direction is required, (or 493*4 = 1972 sprites, that's quite big already, I know)
After the first 'heavy' mode of transport was made (ship), more means of transportation were introduced, especially as from the Johto series.
For example: Electric train Cable transport (in RSE from volcano)
I know you also made a plane in the game. So, will you vary the different modes of transport?
