I just finished three books by Michael A. Stackpole... I forget the "____ Trilogy" name for them, but book one is called A Secret Atlas. I was pleasantly surprised.

It's not what I normally would've selected on my own, but he puts out a decent Podcast (free) about writing Fiction, and as a listener I decided to check out some of his work, and I was glad to see he actually uses most of the tips and ideas he gives in it.

Anyhow, You may want to give it a go. It's got a heavy Japanese influence (not entirely certain how correct he is with details and so forth, but it's obvious to anybody who knows much of anything about Samurai and their history.

Oh!

And I've been cheating... I've listened to the Audio Books (so sue me, I don't have the time for books right now!) for Jim Butcher's Dresden files...

I love them... They're not really Fantasy, or Sci-fi, or Mystery, or Detective... But Kind of a mix of them all - if you have never given them a chance, try it... The language is a bit rough (modern cussing is included a bit) but it doesn't detract from the story at all.

PS: The fun SyFy Channel show was good, but nothing as good as the books.

Yep, if you wanted to see them all...

The fire type one gives me deja vu in many ways...

I have to say...

I see Ice Cream... Broccoli... and Mushroom.

Mayhaps he's a spin off of Eevee...

An Adaptable Monkey instead of an Adaptable Fox-thing...

I don't know, it seems odd still - but who knows, it might work... He could use the green one for camouflage when it hides in the jungle!

Alright... I've seen several topics on Music and Movies and Anime... So I have to ask..

What are your top five Books or Book Series. Include Authors, so others can possibly take your recommendation and go read it/them.

For me, I enjoy Fantasy for the most part, as is obvious below.

1) Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson since Jordan's death)
2) Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson (and Ian Esslemont and a very close second)
3) The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks
4) Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (Warbreaker and Mistborn were good too.)
5) Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (not epic writing, but great stories and ideas)

I personally think that Wheel of Time completely blows Lord of the Rings out of orbit when it comes to pure story, writing style, ideas, and possibilities... I never liked the whole "elves and goblins and dwarves, (oh my!)" thing... I bless Robert Jordan's soul for being original and not ripping off of LOTR.

As for the Malazan Books... dear gods above... Some of the most intriguing and enrapting stories ever. Even if somewhat hard to get into at the start.

That's it for me... What about you?

Hm... I think it's incredibly odd looking...

But it's a monkey, so who cares.

Monkeys rule.

This is idiotic. You started speaking Spanish first, or whatever it is. Rules apply for you too Dexwin.

I was wondering about that too.

I never cared...

I just always picked who would be hardest to work with. I desired the challenge.

But I'm not sure who I chose back in the day, the last time I restarted I chose Charmander though.

I think Squirtle looked great, but seriously.... It's a turtle... Look what Mario could to turtles, and he didn't even have Pokemon to help!

Haha! I love it.

Don't push it on my account... But I seriously think you could enter and have a great chance of winning a lot of the contests I know of. Not sure how many are open to "all countries" but it shouldn't be too hard to find out if you look.

The Writer's Guide (2010) has a great index of contests, requirements and information.

To be honest, I didn't even think in terms of it being an "it" rather than a "he or she"... Oh well, can't win 'em all...

I do think you rushed the ending and wrap-up though, this could have been drawn out to a pretty decent size "short story"... You said you entered it into a contest?

If you can double check the rules of that contest to see if you can re-submit a piece to another contest if it doesn't win first place, you could re-work it into a longer piece of work and submit it to some of the other Sci-Fi writing contests.

There are dozens each year, for anywhere from no money (but publication in a magazine/Book and free copies of it) to thousands of dollars. I'd venture to say you'd have a good shot at it.

Oy!

Alright, I'm a little lost, I'll admit it... I have no idea where it's going from here.

Nice work. I'm hoping you'll have time to work on the next part soon.

I do hate forums for these though... Well, no. I just hate waiting for the next part of a story. =p

Ooh! I know!!

Give me some of your homework and I'll do it so you can work on this! Haha!

Nice. I look forward to the next piece, I'd like to see this all the way to the finish.

Though I do agree, don't rush it. We can wait; even if we don't want to!  :D

Question: Do you listen to music while you write these up or brainstorm?
