Past, Present, FutureIn the last few months development of both client and server has gone slow. This due to the fact that both me (Mr_Dark) and Urmel lost motivation to continue our work with the current code, because it has become a real hog and a lot of code needs to be changed in order to function in a way we want to. We knew this was not going anywhere and we didn't want to abandon the project (because we love it ). That's when Urmel came with the idea of re-creating all the PU-software in a "new" programming language called Go ( http://golang.org) and make everything open-source so other people can help us with the development. We feel like it will keep us motivated when other people are able to collaborate with us and help us with the code. Go!So yeah, this means another rewrite of the software. But on the bright side, Go makes is really easy to write applications (easier as in C++) and is just as fast. So we expect to have some early versions ready soon and because all code is open-source everyone can compile and run the client/server so basically this means Pokemon Universe is always open to be tested! But there is more! and some of you are going to cheer now. Go is 100% multi-platform so it's super easy to create a client version for Windows, Linux or yes (this one is for you Bakagringo) even MacOS! Open-Source, Closed-MapBecause we made the code public of the client and server, this doesn't mean you'll get our worldmap. This will stay hidden deep inside PU-HQ Although we have some other plans regarding mapping, but we have to discuss this internally first. Got Interested? If you're interested in viewing code (although it might be a bit empty now), issues or anything related. Click on the " DEVELOPMENT" button in the top menu. Here you will find a link to our project page at Google Code. Update: Reposting because somehow the post got deleted

After a long period of doing nothin,g due to the lack of motivation, I recently picked up the new server code again to make some more progress, so I thought; why not give our fans some insight on what needs to be done, what's being worked, etc.. So here it is; My blog-thing-update-topic. I'll try to add updates frequently and even try to answer some of your questions (if you have any). Note that I only answer server (and maybe some client) related questions and please don't make it a "will feature X be implemented" list.November 15th, 2010The last thing I did before my motivation breakdown was implementing all Pokemon moves up to generation IV and some basic battle code. So I tried to continue with the battle code, but because this code is so big and complicated I decided to leave it for now and start with some more basic (and even more mandatory) stuff, like logging in and walking around You're probably thinking something like, "how can code be complicated if you wrote it yourself". And this is true, when I dive into it and check how everything works I'll be fine, the problem is that this takes time and it's not the most awesome thing to do. Don't worry I'll continue on it when I'm back in the game Motivation breakdown... how did that happen? It took me 3 to 4 months to implement ALL Pokemon moves and it's not just coding moves. Before that you'll need to figure out how they work and what they do. Luckily there is this project called Shoddy battle which code I could use to check on certain moves, which saved me some time. Anyway, back to the present. At the moment I'm working on the new login system and how is this "new" you want to know? Apart from cleaner code (which is only for me ) it will also support the assignment of a new connection to an already existing player object. Old version: When your connection with the server is lost (due to sucky internet, computer crash or something else) your player object would have been deleted with it. When in battle you would have automatically lost. New version: When the connection is lost, your player object will remain "online" (other players will still be able to see you) for a couple of seconds. Now when you reconnect to the server, it will see that you already have an "online" player object and will assign your connection to it. That way you'll be able to pickup where you left. When that is done I will probably continue with the basic game logic; walking and seeing other players.

As some of you might know, PU has it's own Kinship (Guild) named Cool Horses Alliance. It's been active now for a couple of weeks and we're currently Rank 5. More info about ranks here: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/KinshipSince we get Kinship Auction with the next rank it'll be much easier to trade crafting item with each other. Kinship House is Rank 7 so in about 2/3 months we'll have it Yesterday I've seen some cool stuff Amourer (Amour set) and Tinkers (Jewel sets) can make, so it would be cool if we have people who completed crfating tier 6.

Since everyone is crafting it might be a nice idea to create a list of what everyone his/her vocation is. Additional this might include the items you need to craft and the output is. If you don't have a vocation yet check out this page ( http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Crafting ) for information about all the vocations. Nick: Mr_Dark Character: Darkard Vocation: Armsman (Melee weapons mainly) Needed resources: Ore, but I can mine this myself Output: Swords, Axes, Daggers Nick: Mr_Dark Character: Darkward Vocation: Armourer (Heavy armour mainly) Needed resources: Leather, Ore (but I can mine this myself) Output: Light, Medium and Heavy Armour

As of today the team will start answering some random question list and will post it on the forums (Development board). Just something to keep you entertained while we develop PU. So if you ever wanted to know more about (some of) the team members, keep an eye out for their "Get to know the team" edition. And feel free to comment on them.

It might be a good idea to create a topic tag for (active/accepted) RP threads, so it's easier to pick 'm out of the active topics bar and it shows a lot cleaner when browsing the board. Any suggestions for a tag? Mine is: "[RP] Title of rp here" Note that this tag is only for ACCEPTED/ACTIVE roleplay thread. The ones which are posted in the board subforums, not for topics in the RP Lounge (the board where this thread is posted )

What is Download FestivalThe Download Festival is a three day rock music festival held annually at Donington Park, England (which hosted Monsters of Rock between 1980 and 1996, and 2002's Ozzfest). Link: http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/home/Line-up: http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/lineup/index.aspx
This year 3 PU team members can be found on Download . Mr_Dark, Urmel and Wasabi will take the quest to conquer Download Festival. Anyone else going to this festival? It might be nice to do some kind of meet&greet
