I had not seen this topic explained in a lot of detail, however I have seen plenty of questions on how to use IRC in general in a few different sections and thought I would post a guide as to how this software is used. Feel free to close the topic if I am remaking a duplicate subject, otherwise I hope this information can be useful to someone.
WHAT IS IRC?
- IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, which is a fancy name for a chat server which hosts thousands of users and rooms (channels), much like AOL chatrooms, instant messenger clients, etc.
WHY USE IT?
- IRC is excellent for combining a large user base and a large amount of content (PU's many forum threads and sections). It is a great tool to trade information, data, or just shoot the breeze.
WHY NOT JUST USE THE FORUM?
- The forum is indeed the primary and best place for content and information, however adding a real-time element and the ability to talk to a broader group of people at once can be as equally beneficial, if not more in certain cases.
HOW DO I USE IT?
- IRC is extremely easy to use. Simply download an IRC client such as Pirch or mIRC or one of many others, select a pre-existing server or manually add a new one, make up a nickname, and connect. Once connected, you are free to join any and all channels you like.
OK, WHAT ABOUT THE SPECIFICS FOR PU?
- To connect to reach Pokemon-Universe on IRC, first, download your preferred IRC client, and be sure to create/add the following:
- server: irc.rizon.net
- port: 6667
- Be sure to create your Nick (username) in your IRC client prior to connecting. Once connected, register that nickname by typing the following command:
- /NS REGISTER PASSWORD EMAIL
(be sure to replace PASSWORD with the password you wish to use, and EMAIL with your email address. Don't worry, you won't receive spam.
ALSO: BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL, A CONFIRMATION CODE WAS SENT TO VERIFY YOUR ADDRESS. ONCE YOU RECEIVE THIS , GO BACK INTO IRC AND TYPE: /NS ENTERCODE VERIFCATIONCODEHERE
- Once you have created your password, be sure to remember it. Each time you connect to the server you will have to identify yourself by typing the following command:
- /NS IDENTIFY PASSWORD
- After you have finished the previous steps, all that is left to do is JOIN! to do that, type the following command:
- /JOIN #POKEMON-UNIVERSE
- Congratulations, you're done!
mIRC download link: http://www.mirc.com/
Pirch32 download link: http://dapatchy.com/downloads/
(Note: Pirch is an outdated client and no longer has updates, you will need to manually add everything.)
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to post, I have been using IRC as well as owned, operated, and built IRC servers for over 10 years.
-
Ok, for today, I've been having a persisting issue. It says that I couldn't connect to the server. Can it be because there are too many people on the IRC worldwide? :-\

Copy and paste the error and I'll help ya out. The IRC network can handle thousands upon thousands of users so there should be no issue there.
-
Note that it's not mandatory to register your nickname. However this can be helpful when you plan on joining us on a regularly basis since no-one can steal your nickname.

Ok, that seems to be a java-run IRC client that uses features of Python. Are you trying to connect off of another host website ? Or are you just launching this from your own PC? I only see a back-end download on QWEBIRC's website. Usually when it can't resolve your Hostname it's because there is either a proxy setting, firewall issue, or an issue with a setting on your IRC-client.
Have you checked your firewall settings to allow it to pass?
Also try using another app, if it works on a different application, there is an issue with the config in that app.
-
I'm using the link from Webchat, and it's the first time this issue is persisting.
I haven't changed anything from the last time I succeeded in getting in the IRC.
-
Ah, Ok, I'm sorry I thought you were saying you downloaded a copy of the webchat, not running it from the website.
The java-chat isn't working right now from Rizon's host site either. It's nothing to do with anything you're doing. Java-chat is extremely unreliable. I would suggest downloading a client app if it is possible

Ok, thanks for your reply. Since I have a limited download (0.4 GB only until the end of the month, I know, it sucks), I'll save it for next month.
I have X-Chat by default on my computer, but I don't seem to reach the actual channel of PU :(

Are you joining rizon before trying to join pokemon universe?
-
Yes, I'm putting /server irc.rizon.net [6667] as suggested by florence, but to no avail...
EDIT: I finally got in the IRC. This time, I didn't put the [6667]. The program automatically found the port number.
-
Here is a screenshot of X-Chat. Check it against what you have and make sure all the settings are correct. If so, it should connect.

Its not logging me into the Irc for some reason or something. I have no clue xD

[19:36] == #pokemon-universe Cannot join channel (+b)
+b means that you're banned from the channel.
Bragging about your WOW 'ability/skills' is not a good way to get know people. But seriously, get a life, learn how to communicate and get on with people. WOW might be all pretty and great, but I won't advise anyone to play if their whole lifetime. Of course, the choice is yours.
-
Thank you for replying back but they were the ones flaming and trolling me jsut because i told them i spend 15 hours on a pc playing world of warcraft and once this came up i would prob be coming here to play 15-18 hours a day.
I think ima stop telling people about my self because people judge to much. They all had no issue with me intill i talked about my self and how i live it.
So how long is this ban on the irc ?
-
I highly doubt the developers would ban you for such a weak reason.
-
Quote time!
"I GET HOT EMO FAGS ON MY DICK"
"ILL SEND U PICS OF A 16 YEAR OLD NUDE EMO CHICK"
General spamming, If I remember correctly
-
Now that is a more reasonable to be banned for. Spamming and just genrally being indecent.
-
Lol, Well for what ever reason is it how long is the ban for ?
-
Nvm i can get in now.
-
okay i just got mirc but don't know what to do i can't find the place where i put the port in and i can't find the server
-
The webchat is having a massive DDos. Just use icechat or xchat or whatever.
-
okay where do i put in the info to get on pu i'm on the right server
-
Look for Rizon, type your nick, write #pokemon-universe where it says channel.
