Title: Pixel artist.
Post by: Wailord on February 23, 2011, 10:46:34 PM
Hey there everyone.

For the past few weeks I have been extreamly bored and have decided to take up pixel art in the hope that I can aid the development of PU.

I hope to get more involved in the items aspect of PU. Such as art for items that players can use with their pokemon.

Here are a few Items I have made.

Pomeg Berry

I have attempted drawing buildings and exterior objects but have not had too much success and need to do alot more practise in order to perfect.

•Active in our IRC channel - I have not been too recently but will do my best to be very active.
•Minimum age is 16 years - I am 16 years old myself
•Can work in European timezone - I live in the UK so timezones wont be a problem
•A "can-do" and "get-it-done" mentality - I am a great opertunist and always see through things t othe end. I will only carry on practising and learning the differant aspects of Pixel art.
•Experience with designing new content - I have been tried experamenting with all kinds of Pixel art and have only been getting better and better.

Extra : I would like to add that I am home schooled and have an awfull lot of time on my hands. Thus I am available at pretty much all times of the day. I plan to download Photoshop soon and take my Pixel art to the next level since now I am only using Ms paint and reading the Photoshop manuals.

Thank you for your time, Scowsill

Since I have never worked with Pokemon Pixel art before I tried to make the berries along the lines of the ones in the pokemon games just to get practise and get used to the style.

I did all the work in Ms paint thus the white back round.

They should all be more like the "pokemon style building" where you have constructed the image by zooming in and changing select pixel colours... it seems for some of them you have just used lines and fills which isn't pixel art. But the pokemon style building is very good. Please continue to make more in that style =)

Thanks for the feedback Blaze. I really appreciate it.

I suppose I was just trying to experiment with different building styles since this is all new to me  ;D

Hi, excuse my ignorance, more images have to be in that format? PNG? JPEG? what about size? 400x200 pixels?
if anyone has any specific program name to create the images that I'm passing to you.

.png is better quality image, tiles and overworld sprites are 48*48 and the program you use doesn't matter as long as the results are good.

I have a lot of things to say...
Mainly about the format you save your files.
First of all, one of the basic rules of saving is: Always use PNG to save your files.
PNG = PwNaGe

Gives better quality to the sprites you're making. ;)

Also most of the berries are art from previous games right?
As for the Pokéball is a bit too flat.

The tamato berry just seems to have a lot of bumbs as how you placed the shading.

As for the overworld buildings, those are very... Flat. They lack shading, I know most of the buildings have not as much shading, but this lacks a lot of shading.. :(
