Title: Seveer's Stuff
Post by: Seveer on May 27, 2010, 03:24:19 PM
Ok its not done, and I need to know what to make it.
So I come and ask you what you think about it and what it should be.
So what should it be?

I’m working on tile thing, so give me some time.
And thanks for viewing, I would love to help but I think Im a little slow Ive so far put 3 hours into it.
I was told I should make a new form, so I did.

It's nice I should say :) It's simple and clean.

You could now perhaps add the shadow on the ground to make it more real?

I think it looks good, but the color definitely clashes with all the other buildings, so change that and i think it will be good

Join IRC chat, try and get talking to alais, she's the main pixel artist. She should be able to give you any tips about pixel art and stuff.

Perhaps you could add some horizontal lines on the rooftop of the 'dojo' to make it a little more like Tin Tower and add square tiling on the skyscraper's roof, a little like the rooftops of dept. stores. :)

I MAY HAVE MISCOUNTED 1 OR 2 maybe even a hole row but I tryed to double check it.
This took 4 hours and next time I think I can get it down to 1-2.

A desert and some type of road (funny I got the idea while looking at the Big Boy tiles). ;D(http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5757/pokemonmaptakenapartw.png)

Just as a side note Seveer, you may want to put all your finalised designs in the OP.

OP is either 'Original Post' or 'Original Poster' depending on how it is used.

Declan posted a good suggestion. This way, you don't have to post your work again and again, but only include your latest work with the last modifications.

My comment on the road/desert path: the red hurt my eyes though... could they be a little closer to the brown of the soil, or a little more orange?

I can change everything but there is no point if I don’t get a job here and I don’t think these are going to make it in the game anyways without modifying them allot. ;D

OP = original post ^ ^

don't think like that you would have to learn the style that Alias uses for the possible end result of pu tiles

I attempted to get a position already and was turned down  :'(, but im not stopping until I hit my max and if that is not good enough then Ill stop if im turned down. ;D I could try for mapper if they have a position but mapping is to easy and thats not a joke!

Well, mapping might not be difficult, but it takes skills to make a good map. The map should be original, seem real, with enough (good) randomness in the case of natural features, etc. And that also depends on the taste of people, so, it's more or less subjective :-\

Without pixel artist for this game the mappers would be nothing, and if you think about it mapping is a degraded Halo forge system with 100 time the amount of space as in when you put something down in halo it doesnt snap in place. Now im not saying that the pecies snap in, im saying it doesnt take skill to put something 2d in the correct place and thats doesnt make a good map but when you have the skill to forge in Halo a good map (I know a good map when I see one) this becomes simple. Now what I dont get is Y not combined the 2 jobs other than making pixel art is time consuming. Now im not dissing mapping but it sounds to simple unless they have to program the map (pokemon, location, level, what kinds,...), but if not all of the above it is simple.  ::) Heres the dojo edited.(http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/3573/treescene2.png)

one of the reasons you were turned down could be the fact that you use paint, using other programs, such as gimp or paint.net or photoshop, makes it easier to get the desired effects on certain tiles

Tthe bottom left side of the dojo has a few mistakes.... well not a few just one check out the paint job on that part, you'll notice some baige-orange spots that are not supposed to be there (compared to the opposite side which you didn't put any of those spots)

And like jerry said, the red path can be improved. The red path does not suite the dojo. You see the color of the ground next to it? (of course you do your not blind and you made it yourself hehe) well make it like that BUT a little bit darker (you don't have to its just a suggestion).
