well personally it depends on my mood i usually do just because its kind of the natural progression of the game but occasionally I'll leave the pokemon at the stage its at just because I like it

Usually if i let them stay at a pre evolution it's because I'm trying to get them to learn a move they can't learn later, or they might learn it sooner.

sometimes if the pokemon is going to learn allo the moves anyway i might just keep it if i think the pre evolution form is cooler

I usually just let it evolve unless I need it to stay in a pre-evolved state to learn a move, but even then if i can use a TM later on I'll just let them evolve if they are ready

On Heartgold, i delayed my gastly's evolution so it could learn shadow ball earlier, but then i decided not to evolve it, and now its level 46 and helped me get past lance's gyarados a lot easier.

That's nice. ^^ Make sure you get Gengar as soon as possible and have Tbolt in your Move Pool besides Shadow Ball. ^^
As for me, I tend to stay for a move that would be learned earlier or a move that will not be learned. Then breed that move to the egg and then continue on with the correct Nature. If it was something like first start, I'll just plow through and let them evolve. :p

Yup... which in some cases I think is plain wrong... f.e. I think a Squirtle is faster than a Blastoise. Still, the stats tells me otherwise... can't imagine that lump of a pokemon move fast when out of water.
On topic though I always let my pokemon evolve. Yes... except Squirtle... because he's cute... which is quite a bit of an unmanly thing to say. But yeah... screw you...everyone. ;D

Only pokemon I would consider not to evolve is Balbasaur. His evolutions look really ugly. But he would be so weak compared to a venasaur if they both level 100 I think.

I always evolve all my pokemon except Pikachu. How could you evolve it after seeing how much it doesn't want to in the anime?

I tend to not evolve my starter Pokemon but have no problem evolving my other Pokemon. It all depends on the moves they need to learn and to be honest, how cool the form looks.

it depends on if its higher level it learns a better move. like scyther learns a move at like level 20 something but you can evolve him whenever pretty much. If it doesnt learn anything it cant learn when its evolved then i would like to evolve it if that makes any sense.

I will never evolve my scyther, he is level 100 and a scyther, because scissor is gaytarded.

Uhhh, Depends on the pokemon actually, and what attribute you're focusing on. For example, if you want a pokemon with high attack. You have a pokemon that focuses on defense in it's basic stage but attack in it's evolved stage. But unless it's that, I let all my pokemon evolve.

Nope, EVs gained are not increased, they are constants. Only the base stats of the pokemon are incease, and even here, it's not always the case.

i allways evolve starters and most other pokemon because they have better stats but if the pokemon evolves into something ugly like nosepass to probopass ahhh!

Pokemon have better growth rates after they evolve, and I'll just go to a move tutor if I REALLY need a move badly enough.
Also they (usually) look cooler after they evolve.

I usually let the pokemon I raise evolve (except for that one Glameow sitting in my box with an Everstone). I'm the type of person who
really can't understand doesn't really care about IV/EV, and rather go with the pokemon I choose because of their looks because they seem cool.

In new games; yes, I will let them evolve. Simply to see what new Pokemon they evolve into. However, once I'm familiar with the game, the Pokemon, and the use of them competitively, then some times I don't. Mareep, for example. I refuse to evolve it because, honestly, I don't like Flaafy or Ampharos as much as I do Mareep.

i always keep my charmander a charmander till like level 80 then i evolve it to charmeleon to charizard! mostly because thats how i did it in the original games because the back of charmeleons head always looked funny and i didnt want to look at it for long! that way i only have to look at charmeleon for one level. plus charazard is so freakin awesome. oh and i never evolve my evee because i likes it the wAY it iz

Of course nowadays quite a few pokemon don't learn certain attackes until they evolve, e.g. if you don't evolve Cranidos into Rampados, you'll miss learning half it's attacks.

Yes and no for me, I try to get at least one of every pokemon.
Thus meaning a Squirtle, Wartortle and a Blastoise ect.
So I do evolve to the highest but also keep the first form

I usually evolve my pokemon, except when they learn a good move (such as shadow ball, on my HeartGold gastly) and sometimes, i decide i like them a lot in the form they were in while i was training them for the move that I just give them an everstone to hold so they stop trying to evolve and I leave them that way, even though they are weak in their baby forms, even though sometimes baby pokemon can work out fine, such as a combination of the moves Hypnosis, belly drum, wake up slap, and waterfall on a Lv. 53 poliwag I have on my Japanese soulsilver game.

not always, sometimes i give them a stone that keeps them in their current state. ex: if i get a treko i will get it to evolve to grovile but then stop there because i dont like its 3rd form.

It depends on the pokemon with me. If one of my favourites is a basic form or stage 2 form, then i only let them evolve to the form i like, or not at all.

It depends on the Pokemon itself. Like my Magby, for example. I think that little guy's just too adorable to change. Same thing with my Eevee. Not only are they adorable, they both hold a special meaning to me. Altering their form kind of changes the meaning behind them for me.

Mine usually depends on if the pokemon will learn a certain move quicker as everyone else said or it will depend if I like the EVO better than the first form pokemon. IE: Growlithe --> Arcanine simply because Arcanine is my favorite pokemon. Although you need a stone, its still a choice of the matter to evolve it or not. I actually wait till Growlithe is around lvl 50 to evolve into Arcanine.

i do it always exceppt for:
i dont know the time and i try to evolve to umbreon but i get espeon
evolve to shedninja sometimes because even though it has wonderguard, it has only 1 hp
i want to wait so that is can get a certain move earlier
i know that soon the new generation will come out with a different evolution and i wait for it and trade to that game and evolve there

Then there's just the cuteness factor of those 1st stage evolutionary lines. Togepi for instance; I just can't stand to let that little guy evolve. I always slapped an Ever Stone on it first time I got so that when happiness finally got to that point, it just wouldn't evolve. Same thing with most of the baby Pokemon too. Pikachu is the same way, even though Raichu is much better. Guess I just got to used to not being able to evolve him in Yellow, so now I can't bear to evolve it anyway. Thank god for the Light Ball though; makes having a Pikachu soooooo much better.

It is all in preference and what the trainer wants to do. I did the same thing with my Snorunt too lol :)

I never evolved Grovyle in ruby version, because Sceptile just looks gross, and everyone knows that Grovyle is a long-legged mac-daddy. I also sorely regret letting turtwig evolve at all in Pearl. Torterra is like someone took venasuar and turned him into a tree. it looks less flowery and more tree-like. Normally this is a good thing, but not when dealing with venasuar. I later turned my starter into an HM slave because he looked, as Stephenkill would say, 'gaytarded'.

Funny you say that, because I actually hated marshtop. When I heard that every1 lieks mudkipz, I decided to try a playthrough in ruby with him as my starter. In a fantastic Blond moment, I got lost in rout whatever, just above oldale city. I spend about two hours there grinding while looking for a way to the next town, and my mudkipz evolves. I was all like, "eeeeewwww....", which is when I proceeded to find the path to the next town. I hated my starter pokemon until he evolved again, which is when I decided to nickname him, because his name wasn't manly enough for that level of awesomeness.

When I was Talking About Mudkips, they Start of Cute, and get less and less so as they evolve. I said, "How convenient" because everybody on here Lieks Mudkips so much. (Especially Kamaran and Hitey.)

Back when I was stingier with my TMs I would wait for certain pokemon to evolve. However I've found it easier to just let them evolve and use TMs on my main pokemon.

Well depends on what moves it can learn on the pre-evolution. For growlithe for example, he can learn moves that arcanine cant so therefore you keep him unevolved until you learn them. but usually i evolve unless the move is a must have.

I always evolve my pokemon except on two conditions:
1. I'm Making an evolution set
2. I let my Pikachu keep the Light Ball.

Yep. Thats the only reason i would hold them back from evolving, I always want the last evolution even if the Pre-evolution looked better.

I don't evolve them on the level they evolve. I usually evolve the starter at around level 20-25. Otherwise, I evolve them at around 10 levels after when they actually are meant to evolve, unless they're happiness-based evolutions like Crobat or Umbreon, then I just let them evolve.

I check the internet for a pokemon's moves. Like what i did for murkrow, it learns different moves then when it does when its honchkrow. So i decide what move(s) i currently want, and then i evolve them if their next evolution stage cannot learn it.

It's a strategy game, Frenchfry. We're supposed to be practical. That's why I don't care for people that say pokemon X is bad because it looks ugly in their opinion. Who cares about looks outside of contests? The important thing is stats, abilities, and movepools.
I once started training an Azurill for a cute contest because I would rather the pokemon winning the contest to actually be cute. However I think Barboach is much easier to win a cute contest, even though I don't think it's very cute. In contests I can understand. In regular battles there's no reason to bash a pokemon like Scizor just because you think Scyther looks better.

But it was also designed so that six year olds would be able to beat it with little effort. I could understand if Pokemon was, like... ANY kind of challenge at all to beat, but c'mon. I beat the game before I could even READ!

I've solo'd the elite four with a pichu. beating just one player-controlled pokemon isn't that hard, either.

I'll bet you weren't at the same level as those elite four when you beat them. Besides, fighting NPCs is very different than fighting players. We players actually fight intelligently. Not to mention that in competitive play we aren't allowed to use hyper potions and full heals during battle. You can not beat a dragon type team of equal leveled pokemon with a pichu without using potions. Probably even with using potions.

Thats because there's no reasoning with a tournyfag. Hence why there are still no stages allowed in Brawl tournies besides Final Destination. Trying to argue the fun into you would be like trying to convince ghostman that you can lose a game in pokemon without automatically sucking afterwards. I could go on and on and on, and you would just start building up some weird pokemon teir list, and I don't want that.

I understand why they don't accept other stages other than final destination though. Its so that you don't die from the chance of the in-stage hazards. It would totally suck to pay to enter a real brawl tourney and have a victory taken away from you because you got pegged by a car in Onett or accidentaly hit a randomly falling bomb block in green greens. But I do wonder why they don't accept something like, battlefield or temple. You know, the ones where there are no hazards.

That's also why I sometimes choose some restrictions in PvP battle, like lightweight, or make a deal with a friend about using pokemon which can be obtained by egg only or pre-evolution pokemons (Pichu, Magby, Elekid, Budew, Azurill, etc).
They didn't introduce the restrictions without any idea of how it will be used!
(Don't talk tourneys with me, there aren't any here in Mauritius :()

I'm not sure, but probably because on battlefield, you can break the platform so you can get back on stage, which is like an in-game remedy. The possible reasonfor temple is because of the area under the ruins. There you can create percentages greater than sudden death with ease. Those are two possible reasons i can think of.

non of my pokemon evolve at the right lvl because i concentrate on speed so in other words my gyarados may be slightly weaker in otherstat but he will be very fast if i hold magikarp until lvl40 he is only slightly faster if u keep magikarp until lvl 30
and charmeleon gets more speacial than charizard does so i hold him until lvl 45-55 depends on upcomeing tourneys.... i sacrifice other stats just for one or two stats to me its well worth it.... thats also how i know those stats on those sites yall are looking up arent as accurate as u think they are for one if u look up lvl 100 stats for a fully evolved pokemon those stats are unrealistic because thats acting asif that pokemon grew up from lvl1 and up as in always a charizard never a charmeleon never a charmander...
also i love to catch pre evolved pokemon in the game to because those are treated as pokemon that were raised from lvl1 even they still wont have the max stats tho cuz trained ones are stronger than wild ones like in red blu yellow i like to capture the pidgeotto thats in or right before the virridian forest it will always wind up stronger than ones that evolved from a pidgey who provides nothing but a henderence to pidgeots growth...
i hope yall understand what im saying...i suk at explaining...but all my studies came from me wanting to know and then trying things out i didn't know about all those websites so i learned for myself by myself

i always let the pokemon evolve the first time around, but after that, i normally go back and see what happens if they don't evolve. like Amphi said, some pre's are either better, cooler or both.

All my friends evolve their Pokemon. I tend not to do that. Take Shinx for example. It learns Thunder Fang WAAAAAY earlier than Luxio or Luxray do. I speak from xperience.
I also think that evolving your Pokemon may be odd if you don't know what types it'll evolve into. Like, a Grotle (only grass type) evolves into Torterra (grass-ground type). That makes the effectiveness of Ice-type moves 4x instead of 2x.

though that's true(turtwig is my first starter overall), the only pokemon you have to worry about are Gyarados, Ice routes, gym, lucian's Medicham, and Cynthia's Milotic. not only that, that combo type takes away electric moves, and makes poision regular

I always let mine evolve because I get excited and can't hardly wait to see what the evolution looks like! Plus I need bigger Pokemons so I can kick the gym leaders down to the ground!

Before I beat the Elites I evolve them but after that when I start to train for battling buddies I hold off on it because it is faster for training purposes.

The only reason i would not let my pokemon evolve is because either im trying to teach it a powerful move early, or just because that pokemon just happend to be one of my favorites.

I don't know if I've said this, but if the pokemon I'm training learns the same moves regardless of evolution, I'll go ahead and let it evolve. If I have good TMs, I'll give it those so it isn't held back by weak moves.
If it learns moves at one stage that it doesn't learn at another, I'll act accordingly.

I usually let them evolve, except once on accident I forgot I gave my tailow an everstone, and he didn't evolve when it was supposed to. I thought it was a glitch and the guidebook I got was wrong.

This is the only non evolution I do. I let everyone else evolve whenever. I will sometimes delay evolution if I need a pre evolution move, but otherwise I'm too lazy to keep preventing it.

I usually let pokemon evolve, for the simple reason of making them stronger. However, sometimes it is best to prevent evolution, in the case of the Evolution Stone in b/w (yes, capitals are needed to distinguish it from evolutionary stones). A boost in defense and sp defense by 50% is very handy for a number of pre-evolutions, sometimes making them more powerful defensively than their fully-evolved counterparts. Chansey, rhydon and porygon-2 are some of these. In rhydon's case, while not carrying as much attacking power as rhyperior, the Evolution Stone and sanstorm support DOUBLES its special defense (and increases that crazy physical defense stat to 150%)

i do it for the stat bost as as well the feeling of achivement.
EX: i m angaed to strencghten a pokemon with crappy starter attacks and have made it into an unstoppable Pwning machine.

I'd rather have a Garados then a Magikarp
I'd rather have a Charizard then a Charmander
and I'd rather have a Cloyster then a Shellder
However, I'd rather have a Pikachu then a Raichu (like most people)
and I'd rather have a Skitty then a Delcatty
Eevees are debatable, as I love every form of Eevee, including Eevee him/herself.
Then again the only pokemon I normally don't evolve are the ones that I remember as a Child wanting to sit on my shoulder as I strut down the sidewalk into a forest readying myself for my first badge.
So yes I do evolve 95% of my pokemon.

Actually... Pichu learns Volt Tackle through breeding and Pikachu just inherits it from the evolved Pichu, and so would a Raichu upon evolution, just saying :)

Every trainer has there own way of training i for one will never evolve a pikachu but i would allow my pokemon to evolve naturally, just because its evolving early doesnt make it, annoying its just how the game was set but its all up to us were the trainers, we all have a different training style.

no not truely my answer i evolve maybe like 10% of my pokemon like how my mareep is faster than most pokemon above its level....even though the speed might stay i say it looks kinda cute with its sheep face :P

Some Pokemon I do, some I don't. When I'm playing my Platinum (which I know is ANCIENT now), I usually deter their evolution for a few levels or so to see if they learn any moves. Besides, there are some Pokemon that can only learn moves in their pre-evolved form. I remember I was playing a new game and I didn't let any of my Pokemon evolve until I started going up against Maylene and Crasher Wake.

I generally evolve my pokes as soon as possible. If I need a pre-evo move then I'll either look it up before hand and hold off the evolution of simply use the move relearner. The only pokemon I will not evolve now is Chansey because I can give her an evolite and she automatically becomes better than Blissey in just about every way :P

But why not sealeo works well with it. Though it needs to be paired with aqua ring and it's ability ice body (during a hail storm)

Anything with Ice Body and Aqua Ring will work well in hail. Sealeo still isn't bulker than Walrien though, even with evolite. If each of Sealeo's base stats were about 10 points higher, than it would be viable like Chansey, Shellgon, or Gligar (in LC). The fact that Sealeo's only way of damaging the opponent is through consistent hail stall also makes Sealeo seriously outclassed by its evolved form.

I almost always let them evolve, often for my Pokedex, but also because the stats are higher. Even if I don't like an evolution at first, I usually learn to love it (such is my case with Walrein and Wailord).
I use my Eevees' personalities to decide their evolution, in those specific cases. The only Pokemon I don't really ever evolve is Dragonair, because I don't care for Dragonite all that much. If I get a second Dragonair, I might choose to have it evolve. But not the one I actually use in battles.

For this whole topic, it honestly depends... On if they can only learn a move I want in an earlier stage. If not I always evolve them.

Most pokémon need evolution in order to get stronger stats, however there are some that not neccesarily get stronger by simply evolving like scyther or pikachu, or another few. As for scyther and Pikachu it's mainly the speed diffrence.
Usually I let them evolve for the sake of being strong enough to beat the game. However, there were times where I had a Charmander around level 83 because I liked him that way. But theres no way you can keep a caterpie the way it is and keep it viable to fight with just Tackle and Stringshot. Unless you go for the batonpass method to support it.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but Pikachu has terrible stats compared to Raichu. He goes from 300 total base stats to 475 total. But yeah, pokemon like Scyther don't need to evolve to keep up. With pokemon who evolve with stones, you might want to make sure you have all the moves you want, as most of them don't learn any more by level up.

I usually push back evolution in most pokemon just incase I am missing moves but in some cases where it takes extra to evolve em I just say screw it. for example I always grab a kadabra for my psychic always been a fan of his its a pain trading him to evolve and I have become partial to him since I have used him since way back in red/blue

No because in a lot of the games heart scales are hard to come buy so specific moves that can only be leanrn't by not evolving the pokemon to a specific lvl may not be learnable because of lack of heart scales.
