So I'm really big on a lot of Japanese musicians. Composers, producers, performers, the works.
Figured I'd make a thread for people to list loads of music for everyone to check out. :)
Susumu Hirasawa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZmxV1SdfDI) is a composer and songwriter who I'm sure many of you will recognise for making the music to a lot of anime such as Paprika and Millennium Actress. Epic.
Polysics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9aL7tQhnwI) are, quite frankly, an INSANE synth-punk-rock band who are awesome. Check them out.
School Food Punishment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC1F9KqpF78) are a post-rock and electronic J-rock band with some incredible technical ability. The only word to describe these guys is 'epic'.
Shugo Tokumaru (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bECOcHK0vrs) is an eclectic songwriter and composer notable for using a huge fuse of genres all in one. He also makes very 'childish' melodies. It's best you hear it yourself to know what I mean.
Melt Banana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ6Sk8Aj-SQ) are a noise-rock band. They are... loud. But so cool. Crank your speakers up for this one.
Gackt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxuaTNHLsFc): Do I even need to say anything about him? He's awesome.
Hatsune Miku (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maAaY4U5TDQ) is a synthetic vocal synth that has been idolised by a lot of Japan. A Vocaloid program used by a lot of incredible musicians and producers, so many that she covers almost every genre out there. More Miku here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbX8StskivQ)
Nobuo Uematsu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a39jSLBo20) is a legendary composer and producer who composed the music for almost (if not all) the Final Fantasy games, and has done a lot of work with Square Enix. He is also in a band The Black Mages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay1-ra1A3PA).
Kiyoshi Yoshida (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoCeqJjO3Bs) is a composer most notable for writing the soundtrack for the anime The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which is an absolutely phenomenal anime and soundtrack. Absolutely gorgeous.
That's it for now, but I'll post some more when they come to mind. :)

I don't really know a lot about Japanese music except for a band called "L'arc en Ciel" (which is rainbow in French ironically enough). I also know that some guys named Gackt and Hyde are really popular there.
Also, don't they listen to a lot of American music?

Perfume (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz7NSVhbKE8) A synth pop group from Japan. Crazy catchy music and one of my top 10 favorite artists.

Ah. I love Stereopony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzNhOGNH8ZU). If that's wrong, I don't want to be right!
Also, MUCC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4EBg6pCor4) and D'espairsRay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huQtZDtGIDE) \o/

<3. Polysics are one of my favorite bands of all time. Like a Japanese DEVO turned up to 11.
