General Chat / Re: what you hope for from Gen 6
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:41:40 PM »
to make the pokemon original!! something the last 2 generations have failed to do. No original 150 to evolve, they ruined every pokemon from the 1st gen they have evolved.

General Chat / Re: Feebas or Magikarp?

Out of the 2, Milotic comes across as a contest pokemon whilst Gyrados is more of a battleing pokemon. Both good, but mainly because of the anime i will say gyrados. One of my favorite episodes was the one where ash misty and brock had to escape the ss.anne and james ended up kicking his magikarp into the water, it evlved and pwned team rocket. :D

ok before everyone in the forum starts saying that pokemon keep getting stupid looking with every gen just remember that origeneraly pokemon was made for 10 - 12 year olds after school and then other people of other ages started liking it or grew up with it like us. the designs are just becoming more realistic than they used to be so that kids can reconizes the pokemon for their basic structure. like infernape is soposed to be a monkey. torterra is a land tortois. totadile is a alligater/crocodile. and other examples thereof. opinions are well and dandy but pokemon is pokemon they all have good traits and they all have bad traits. I mean have any of you actually trained all 493 pokemon to lv. 100. sure some are extremely powerful but beating the strong one with a team of lv. 100 caterpies kakunas and others of the like is something that can be a good experience.

Ok. Firstly, Pokemon is definitely still made for the 6-14 age group. Those of us who are older than that either loved Pokemon as younger kids, or are here simply because Pokemon is so huge, that by probability there is going to be a large community of older fans (though still vastly outnumbered by young kids).

I'm not sure what you mean by "getting more realistic" with each generation. I took the liberty of counting the number of pokemon which appear to be closely based on an animal or plant:

Gen 1 - 93/151 62%
Gen 2 - 47/100 47%
Gen 3 - 66/135 49%
Gen 4 - 55/107 51%

The design of Pokemon is getting lazier, an example being the number with an oval for a head -

Plusle, Minun, Nuzleaf, Slakoth, Spinda, Aipom, Pachirisu, Ambipom, Buneary, Glameow, Purugly, Mime Jr., Croagunk, Lickylicky, Electivire, Lake spirits.

Notice I'm not even including those that should have round heads, like Pichu, Torchic, Mudkip, Surskit, Swablu etc.

There are also copies made, some of which are ok, and some which are just unnecessary:

Sentret/Furret and Zigzagoon/Linoone
Pichu, Plusle, Minun and Pachirisu
Wurmple/evolutions and Caterpie/Weedle/evolutions
Meowth/Persian and Skitty/Delcatty and Glameow/Purugly are all normal type housecats
Venomoth and Dustox and Mothim - do we really need three different moth pokemon?
Magnezone, Electivire, Magmortar and Rhyperior just look bad. They ruin four great lines of pokemon.

Also, Torterra is based on Aspidochelone, a legendary sea turtle with an island on its back.

There are many Pokemon with no redeeming features at all. I won't list them here, but explain to me the appeal of Dunsparce, for instance, or Volbeat and Illumise, strictly on an artistic level, because that is what this thread is about.

I don't see why I have to train every (or any!) Pokemon to 100 to hate a design.

It is difficult for the designers to constantly make new Pokemon, but that doesn't mean we can't have an opinion. Some of the designs are just plain bad.

All that being said, this topic was intended to be just for fun!

Exactly this! The thread wasnt intended for pokemon that are bad to train and play with in the game, its for pokemon we dislike.

You wouldnt buy a very expensive car because it performs well if its extremely ugly.

« on: January 05, 2010, 01:20:05 AM »
catch as many differant types as possible. I would have one or two trademark pokemon (probably some powerhouses like Dragonite, milotic, metagross ect. I wouldnt usually go for them in the games tho as games are more fun with average/weaker pokes) Travel around, train in quite areas like in mountains where me and my pokemon need to fend for ourselfs. Beat as many gyms as possible, Make friends on the way, wear cool clothes, i would be a wise powerful trainer. When im older and want to settle down, i will either be a gym leader with a side hobbie nearish a decent sized city or the champ of my home region.

Red, then (in order):

Yellow,
Pinball,
Trading Card Game,
Gold,
Emerald,
Pearl,

Emerald and pearl came far after the others, i didnt bother with a gameboy advance, i had my original black and white gameboy and then my pikachu gameboy colour.

Almost all the 4th gen. (apart from luxray, pretty cool having an new strong electric for a change) I hate Tangrowth, Magmortar, Electrivire, Togekiss ect. They are starting to look like random shapes and animals that have already been used before. HATE with a passion most of the electric types, they are really ugly (only like the pika, mareep and shinx families). Zubats and geodudes because of going in caves in most games, especially red/blue/yellow.

All legenderies after the 2nd gen. I dont like Buizel/Floatzel (putting a rubber ring around an animal dosent mean it can swim!!!!!!!!!!!)

I think the newer the pokemon the worse they get, i likw 99% of gen 1, 90% gen 2, 60% of gen 3, 10% (on a generous day) gen 4.

General Chat / Re: How do you make your teams?
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:24:54 PM »
i find it more fun training up average and underused/un-noticed pokemon. Not a fan of legendaries.

I usualy stick to: 1 water, 1 fire, 1 grass, 1 bird then 2 random depend on the game and who are obtainable.

I glad ash left charizard in training and im glad he uses new pokemon every series, how boring would it be if his team was the same for all 600 + episodes. I also wish people would stop chumming charizard sooooo much. Back in the day of the 150 pokemon it was one of the stronger but now it isnt really although it is pretty strong. To all people here who are about 10 and started watching pokemon when the hoenn series or later was on, pokemon isnt just about evolving pokemon to get them as strong as possible (this is a message in the latest series with pauls style of training Vs ash's and it is also a message in an episode where dawn's piplup nearly evolves.) so therefor pikachu should NEVER evolve, plus it takes a thunderstone to do so, ash had the oppotunity in the first series but refuses.

he age thing really isnt a concern, the producers have deliberatly left out how old the characters are and how many years they have been training for. WE know that ash was 10 when he started his journey, it is said in some episodes that ash has been travelling around for a few years. Dawn could be an older new trainer for all we know. There is no rule saying you have to become a trainer at 10 and im not aware of it mentioning anywhere in the show dawns age

let's not just focus on ash. let's talk about some of his pokemon, especially that littl yellow friend, pikachu. i mean, in the first gym battle ash had, he took down a freakin' onix....with pikachu...and now, it seems that pikachu has regressed to a much lower level...what's up with that?

omg i forgot about this, ash's pikachu is meant to be a rare strong pikachu (its the main reason team rocket want it) It completely killed that flock of spearow when ash first gets it, as you said takes down an onix after frying brocks geodude. The opening introduction to one of the series shows pikachu's mighty thunder attack blasting through a huge stretch of trees. Yet in the recent series it sucks. I would understand if it was a new pokemon but when its just as experienced as ash is, it should kick ass. Think of the strength it should have buil up after years of batteling. I understand why they make it so it isnt extremely powerfull compared to the rest of ash's new pokemon, but it should be.

I remember t having difficulty beating a treeko that ash catches, come on, a treeko against the super rare, strong, experienced pikachu

General Chat / Re: [Merged] Your Favorite Pokémon!
« on: December 31, 2009, 09:14:02 PM »
my favorite is either pidgeot (because its the old school 3rd gen bird which i want so it can fly me around and its strength is underated, im pretty sure that its the fastest bird pokemon aswell or at least was before the new ones where around), Sceptile (my favorite grass type ,closely followed by the bulbasaur and oddish families. Very smart, fast, powerfull, loyal and looks good)

For nostalgia i would say Jiggleypuff (from the age of 6 onwards when pokemon was first released, it really entertained me in the show when it followed ash mistey and brock around kanto) Krabby (it was/is fun to immatate, especially the noise it makes)Arbok and weezing (purely because they made me laugh when released from their pokeballs)

Worst pokemon is magnezone, i dislike magnemite and magneton but at least they look ok-ish. Magnazone is so freakin ugly and is annoying!

i dont understand how ash sometimes makes stupid judgements in situations and comes across not very experienced when he has been travelling around for years catching, training and battleing pokemon against all kinds of people, teams, gyms, legendaries. He has also managed to get through many many many situations. 600 episodes later, god knows how many films, he should be experienced and able to beat most trainers. I dont like the fact he gets beat by an arrogent new trainer (paul). He will beat paul in the league finals (as he does with all his rivals of the series)!

One more thing that is wierd is how ash checks his pokedex for pokemon he has seen many times before. Pffffft.

p.s he didnt release charizard, he just left charizard in training and can/will recall him whenever needed as he has done a few times in the show.
