Pokedex Entries / [Pokedex Entry] Persian
« on: February 23, 2014, 10:15:19 PM »
Approved by Xetroc

Pokemon 53, Persian, Normal type, Classy Cat pokemon.

Intro: Persian is a majestic, large feline pokemon. It has light, unblemished beige fur and a black accent on the rim of it's ears. A red gem adorns the forehead, complementing the typical whiskers on Persian's face. Persian's lean muscles also allow it to walk soundlessly, and in some individuals allows Persian to be protecter from paralysis (Limber ability).*

Diet: The wild Persian keeps a typically feline diet of birds, rodents and fish. Persian kept as pets are known to have a higher standard for food, often demanding high quality cat-food, exotic birds and fish and only the most exquisite pieces of meat.

Habitat: Persian is rarely spotted outside of towns and cities. Persians have been known to lead packs of Meowth in deserted cities. However, one has a better chance of finding them being kept as pets in wealthy households.

Biology: Persian appears to be exceptionally well suited as a pet for richer individuals, Giovanni being the most well-known example. When being kept as a pet, one might even go as far as saying that Persian expects a certain social standard from its owner. Persian is known for its fickle personality, sometimes clawing and mauling its owner for little to no reason.
In contrast, Persian being kept as a pokemon for battle are much better at adapting to their owner's living standards.
The gem on Persian's forehead appears to be an evolved version of meowth's gold coin and symbolizes a higher standard of wealth. Persian is able to use the gem for moves such as hypnosis and power gem.
Where Persian was previously used in battle mostly for their speed, power and ability to use a plethora of elemental attacks, they have long since been surpassed strictly in those categories by pokemon as Porygon-Z and Tauros. Modern Persians are used for a combination of speed and trickery, such as interrupting attacks such as knock-off, fake-out, U-turn, hypnosis and taunt, in which some Persian are particularly skilled thanks to their ability Technician. Persian is typically unequalled in this category thanks to its tremendous speed.

Pokemon League Commission notes:

Class B- Rarely found in the wild on its own, Persian tends to have an alpha role in packs of Meowth. To keep peace in these populations, catching the leading Persian is not recommended. The catching of any other lonesome Persian is not restricted in any way, assuming the trainer is lucky enough to even encounter one.

Pokedex Entries / Re: [Pokedex entry] #225 Delibird
« on: February 23, 2014, 09:51:56 PM »
Ah, Delibird. My girlfriend will be dissappointed that this one is done alread :p anyways,

I wouldn't use the "Delibird is odd" statement twice in the same entry. It feels a bit uninspired.
I could point out lots of things that I would do differently, but seeing as I'm not any kind of authority here, I won't. You've done a decent job.
Maybe dig a bit more into the presents. You say Delibird is a pokemon that likes to share food, and this is true. The pokedex also says so, so I can hardly argue with that. However, the move present is an explosive, so that hardly seems friendly. This move only heals the opponent as a random fault, maybe this is because Delibird cannot help itself being friendly? :p It's friendly to a fault  ;D

Also a general question: Do we want to reference IRL locations such as Mount Everest? because I've avoided doing that up until now.

I might put a little bit less effort into pokemon aren't my favorites though, but I'll still do my best.

Right you are. I looked over it since I was expecting it in the Biology. Carry on :)

Pokedex Entries / [Pokedex Entry] Absol
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:30:51 PM »
Pokemon 359, Absol, Dark type, Disaster pokemon

Intro: Absol is quite a unique pokemon. It has a black/grey/blue body which is covered in fur for the most part. The fur is extra present around Absol's neck, somewhat resembling a lion's mane. Absol has a typical horn protruding from its head, shaped somewhat like a crescent moon. Alongside the tress on the side of the face, and the typical black spot in the middle of Absol's head, the combination somewhat resembles yin and yang. Absol's tail is somewhat reminiscent of a bat's wing, and it's paws each have three short, but thick talons, complemented by a single talon on the back of each leg.
It's morphology is quite unique in the pokemon kingdom. There do not appear to be any direct evolutionary relatives of absol, although the Field egg group implies some sort of shared ancestor with the other pokemon in that group.

Diet: Adapted to life in various regions, Absols diet is very flexible. It may consist of specific leaves, fruits and vegetables, but also fish, small wildlife and anything a particularly hungry Absol may scavenge on the outskirts of society.

Habitat: Absol naturally live reclusive lives in mountainous regions or in heavily overgrown fields, far from any real form of civilization. Paradoxically, Absol always manage to find their way to civilization in case of a coming distaster. Particularly watchful Absol, living in an environment which is threatening to society, such as a volcanic region, have been seen moving their habitats closer to the area inhabited by humans. Although some unenlightened citizenry call Absol the disaster pokemon due to their connection with disasters, some Absol have been referred to as a town or city guardian, protecting the citizens from impending disaster.

Biology:

Absol's unique horn allows it to sence natural vibrations with stunning accuracy. This ability allows it to predict coming disasters such as floods, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Although Absol tend to live reclusive lives, they feel it is their responsibility to warn people of coming disasters. Due to their watchful natures, some Absol have been seen taking a particularly unlucky trainer as their partners without directly being caught. Especially Absol with the Super Luck ability feel the need to share their ability with those less fortunate.
Absol's noble heart and protective nature are also reflected in the ability Justified.
Absol's fur has evolved to withstand the cold of mountainous regious in which they usually reside. Absol's fur is coveted by many, although Absol's social status as a guardian (angel) tends to prevent any structural form of hunting. This is especially true since absol pelts are particularly difficult to move, as no trader wants to stain their hands with the potential lives of an entire village.
Absol's claws have primarily evolved to allow a firm grip during mountain scaling. However, they are also particularly potent weapons. Absol has amongst the most potent attack power in the pokemon world, and the effectivity of their claws is partly the reason of that.
Absol is able to learn a variety of physical slashing and cutting moves thanks to their claws. They also allow for a wide range of powerful moves with types ranging from rock to bug and even flying type. Absol's horn is the source of more elaborate powers such as psychic and electrical moves. Absol also have the ability to breathe fire, though they cannot develop this power without the interference of a trainer.
Absol has the ability to evolve using mega-evolution. Mega-Absol is a stronger, faster and more magnificent version of Absol, and uses the substantially powerful abilty Magic Bounce.
Due to its magnificent fur and Super Luck ability, Absol are coveted pets and mascots among those that like to take a bet, such as Gamblers and Mobsters who spend their time in the casino. In some parts, pokemon breeders have added Super Luck Absol to their repetoire, since a particularly lucky Absol can be worth a fortune in the casino. One particular casino went bankrupt on the same night a Rocket Executive entered the building accompanied by a Shiny Absol.

Pokemon League Commission notes:

Class B- Due to their newfound status as guardians, the catching of some Absol may cause an outrage in certain regions. In these regions, catching Absol is strictly prohibited. In other regions where Absol does not have such a social status, catching may be limited or completely unlimited. Inquiry of catching Absol is reccommended per region.

Whoa I really went all-out on this one.

This is a nice entry. The quality of the info is very high :) However, since I'm also quite a Relicanth fan, I'm missing some things. The most important part that I'm missing is the lack in change in Relicanth over thousands of years. Like the IRL equivalent Coelacanth, Relicanth has not changed it's morphology since pre-historic times. This implies a combination of a very sturdy set of genes and a lack of evolutionary pressure.

Feel free to copy any of those phrases if you feel like it (though it's best you leave out the Coelacanth reference since it wouldn't make any sence in the pokemon world)

« on: February 22, 2014, 12:41:52 PM »

I'm trying to leave specific locations out of my entries since I don't know how the story for PU will be. I wanted them to just be general. Tauros have been in at least three regions, Kanto, Johto, and Kalos. Two of those they were in normal locations.
[/quote]

Oh that's actually a really good point.

I like the entry, but I'd add something about the Safari Zone in the capture and habitat parts. I'd personally add something about the contrast of Tauros being a indeginous species in the Kanto region, although the Safari Zone is the only area where they can be caught. Since the Safari Zone is regulated by people, this may say something about the nature of the Tauros in Kanto, perhaps they originate from another regio? I like speculations like this ;)

Pokedex Entries / Re: [Pokedex Entry] Magcargo
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:56:49 AM »
i'll agree with the part where you say it's too similar. It's not bad, but this entry does not feel like it adds anything to the slugma entry. I had to actually look for the part about the shell.

Uhm anyways, I just wanted to ask about the catching classification. Is a pokemon being an evolved form enough of a reason to limit the catching? If the pokemon is rare, this rarity should be enough to naturally regulate the catching. However I came up with the next snippet of text that you might want to add:

"Since Magcargo is an evolved pokemon, a class B has bee issued to limit their capture. Since evolved pokemon tend to hold an alpha role in the natural population, special care has to be taken when catching them, since the sudden dissappearance of a leading pokemon can cause a population of pokemon to fall into chaos. Internal struggles and fights for leadership may happen, which are detrimental to the population of the pokemon. "

Pokedex Entries / [Pokedex Entry] Qwilfish
« on: February 21, 2014, 01:18:56 AM »
Pokemon 211, Qwilfish, Balloon Pokemon

Intro: Qwilfish is an ocean Pokémon with a round body and a thin, teardrop-shaped tail. The body of Qwilfish is divided in a dark teal upper half and a light yellow lower body. The tail is decorated with the same colors, a teal rim and yellow center, complimented by two teal spots. Qwilfish has typical, pink lips and eyes that always appear grumpy. Its entire body is covered in poisonous spikes, which are said to have evolved from scales.

Diet: As with many fish-type pokemon, Qwilfish feeds mostly on invertebrates and algea, although they are known to scavenge shellfish and shrimp when given the chance.

Habitat: Commonly referred to as a sea dwelling pokemon, Qwilfish's natural habitat is the ocean. Surprisingly, it can also be found in some rivers and lakes, such as route 12 and 13 in Johto. Once in a blue moon, Qwilfish have been reported to flock to this location en masse, giving rise to the belief that this place may be a Qwilfish breeding ground. Outside of these outbursts in population, Qwilfish is considered an elusive pokemon.

Biology: Qwilfish is commonly known to be able to launch its spikes. This is achieved by swallowing 2.6 gallons of water, causing the body to inflate several times its regular size. This activity allows the use of moves such as pin missle and spike cannon, as well as spikes, toxic spikes and inflation moves such as selfdestruct and explosion.
Qwilfish has evolved poison sacs for defensive purposes. The toxins produced by the sacs are powerful enough to cause fainting in the largest pokemon species. The poison sacs are omnipresent throughout Qwilfish's body, although their location is predisposed towards the spikes.
Due to its round form, Qwilfish is not such a good swimmer as its streamlined cousins.
Although Qwilfish is definitely not among the strongest pokemon, it does have a particularly large move pool. Due to its ability to shoot spikes, many bug-type attacks are available in addition to the regular movepool of water, poison and ice-attacks that come naturally to pokemon that share its type combination.  Particular note goes to the ability to learn Destiny Bond, which is typically reserved for ghost type pokemon.

Due to its elusive nature, many fishers have taken Qwilfish watching to a whole new level, alerting any and all of any rise in Qwilfish population, usually indicating the start of a breeding season.

Pokemon League Commission notes: Class D. Although Qwilfish can be elusive and difficult to obtain, no specific catching restrictions have been implemented.

Right, sorry about the multiple post. I'll remember the edit ability.

And my girlfriend is already on it more than I am, she actually pointed out your post to me :p

She's pretty much already on it, with the development toolkit being open, and her already putting lots of time into making games with RPGmaker.

I'll see if there's anything that I'd be able+willing to do. I've got a lot of time on my hands that could be spend... better...

So I'm one of those guys that's not actually part of the community here, but just checks the front page of the site regularly to see if there's actually a game to play yet. I can only say that I've been coming here since pretty much the beginning, since this was pretty much the only hope I had of ever getting to play a proper online pokemon game, that's not based on a world I've already played through over and over and over again.
I'd really like to see the world you guys've created and experience the adventure of it.

I honestly have no idea how far you guys are, but wouldn't it be a waste to just let it end without even making it to alpha? Maybe you should just put online what you have, so people can experience it and share their experience on facebook/twitter/whatever. There's a lot to be gained from letting people play a little bit I think.

As for the dwindling of users online, I think that's just a result of people getting tired of waiting actively, and just switching to waiting passively

Anyways, even though I don't really have anything to contribute aside from this motivation, I hope it helps you guys ahead a little bit.

My girlfriend also wanted to help with motivation and contribute with a quest she thought up, but the account activation is hindering her so here is her reaction:

I am also not a part of the community, but that does not mean that I am not interested in Pokemon Universe. I am one of the passive fans that would really like to see Pokemon Universe to become playable. Pokemon has been half my youth and I still love it! It would be amazing if Pokemon Universe would become reality!!!

And to help you guys, I’ve thought of a quest ‘The Wrong Starter’

Quest: The Wrong Starter

Story of the quest:

Chariza is a sad girl who’s mother is sick. Someone told her that there is a shrine with good luck fortunes. Unfortunately the shrine is placed on the other side of a canyon and she cannot cross it. She hoped to get a Charmender that would one day become a Charizard so she could fly over the canyon, but she got a Bulbasaur.

In the same town, you meet a Bulbasaur. He’s quite sad. You ask him to join you for a bit. He nods and seems a bit happier. He starts following you, but does not join your party.

When you near the canyon and talk with the Bulbasaur, he says “Bulba.. Bulbasaur.” and shoots out his vines so you can cross the canyon. On the other side is a plateau with  a small patch of grass (and a rare Pokemon) and a good luck shrine where you can get a good luck charm. When you go back to the other side of the canyon and talk to the Bulbasaur, he pulls his vines back and says “Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur!!” He takes the good luck charm from you and starts following you again.

When you go to the house of Chariza, the door opens and Bulbasaur walks to Chariza. You follow him. Bulbasaur says “Bulba! Bulbasaur!” and gives Chariza the good luch charm. Chariza becomes happy once more and thanks Bulbasaur. She asks if he wants to join him again. Bulbasaur nods and walks so that he stands beside Chariza. Chariza gives you ‘Chariza’s Rope’ as thanks. Her mother didn’t want her to do dangerous things anyways.

uhm anyways, if anyone is interested, here is a link to the worked-out version
