Title: Type usage.
Post by: Ice Warrior Astral on October 25, 2011, 01:36:21 PM
When I started battling in monotype,I was wondering. What is the least used type in monotype?I keep seeing a pattern in monotype usage.People keep using the same few types.I myself as an mono ice user that refuses to use hail see little to no use of ice types. Are usage of types dependant on certain tatics or are they people's favorite type?I just want to know.

From my battles, I'm going to vote Electric. I'm the only person I've fought with an electric team. It was a tossup between Electric and Rock though. I feel like it's a combination of tactics and favouritism.

I agree with Fred.
Out of the hundreds of battles I have done on PO I have come across maybe...4 or 5 bug teams.

The same goes for Grass teams. I've seen about 2 rock teams, one grass team and 1 electric team on my entire time battling on PO (monotype tier).

I personally have versed multiple teams of all types, with the two exceptions of rock and steel. I voted rock and honestly on PO ive fought like 4  different electric mono teams... You have to do double battles  and electric mono teams are used often.

Psychic, Fight, Fire, and water seem to be the most common monotypes. I prefer fight because of its ability to, most of the time, smash through anything put in your way. But dark is also a very good type. It has deadly sweepers like Weavile and Krookodile, and annoying walls like Mandibuzz and spiritomb. The type I have almost never seen is ghost. I have seen one user in the time I have been battling. Its not that its a weak type, because that's not true, its because of how few there are. I mean ghost is the rarest type in the game.

Dark, Fighting, Bug, Steel: These types are the most used types on the monotype ladder.

Monodark has many offensive options such as Tyranitar, Hydregion, Weavile, Honchkrow, Houndoom, and Bisharp. They also have defenisve options such as Spiritomb, Mandibuzz, and Umbreon. They only have 2 weaknesses; fighting and bug witch are both cuontered by Spiritimb/Sableye and Houndoom/Honchkrow.

Fighting is one of the best offensive types in pokemon. Monofighting teams easliy run a hyper-offensive team with little trouble. They are able to counter their psychic and flying weakness with Scrafty and Terrakion, repectively. Their only problem is ghost types which is a rare type in the monotype ladder.

Bug is becoming a major offensive type in Gen 5 thanks to faster threats and the fact that drak and psychic types are becoming more popular. Monobug has access to top tier threats like Scizor, Genesect, and Volcarona. I don't know how monobug is still a top monotype since most teams fall to stealth rock...

Steel is the metagame's main defensive type with access to offensive threats like Scizor, Genesect, and Lucario. Skarmoy and Heatran counter ground and fire types.

From what I've seen; Ice, Electric, and Grass are the least common types in mono.

Ice is the worst defensive type and most teams have to rely on hail.

Electric probably isn't seen too much because of the main ground types and earthquakes being thrown around.

Grass types normally have to rely on the sun to be effective which also puts them at a great disadvantage.

I think that some electric types have abilities that benefit from discharge.

I'd like to see all these monobug teams you all are talking about. I have been on PO for a loong time now and havent seen but maybe 5-7 teams.

SR is so easy to get rid of. Armaldo has access to rapid spin and is a pretty decent poke.
Bug has a few good pokes with access to rapid spin...though why shuckle doesn't I do not know.

I see monobug teams just about as much as I see monofighting teams...which is like every other battle. I'm normally able to get rid of the spinners before they can spin away my rocks. Just about every monobug team on PO runs Forretress to set entry hazards and spin. I just switch in my Espeon and 2HKO it with HP fire. They normally don't take their only turn to spin but will attack me instead of stealth rocks are normally intact.

Ah well. I never see them hardly. And it sounds like the ones you are fighting are pretty bad at it.

I've never played a mono double battle before, perhaps my electric team will do even better there.

I suck at mono double. My team isn't made for double battles and I'm not too good at doubles anyway.

A mono-grass team doesn't ALWAYS need the sun. Puts them at a disadvantage against buffy fire types. But, you rarely see any mono-grass trainers out there.

But! I have fought all sorts of mono-type trainers. Another forum I went to in the past was hosting a mono-tourney. I think I've fought every type there. The most painful was the Dark trainer. The both of us sat in front of the computer for an hour in a Honchcrow vs. Breloom 106-turn stall. I lost because I ran out of PP.
