Snivy is quite fitting.
"This is my stuck-up lizard Pokémon. His name is Snivy, wot."

Tepig is TEH PIG!
"This is teh pig starter. His name is TEH PIG!"

'Oshawott' is just what the trainers are going to say when they see him.

Trainer: I choose the water type!
Professor: Okay! *releases Oshawott to show trainer*
Trainer: Aww. *white light fades, revealing what Oshawott looks like* SHA! WHAT?

If I could thumb up or like posts, this one would get it. That's exactly what I thought when I read their names.

Also to what Zyllnick said,  l love Gen 5, one of my favorites. It just takes a while to warm up.

your probably right, I had the same idea about gen 4 way back (I'm conservative), but now I'm thinking more positively about the gen 5 pokémon, because I know (some of) them now. It gives more possibilities.

I looked at the stats for the final evos for all of them, and the water type's is pretty damn good. It has monstrous attack and decent stats to back it up.

It actually has higher S atk, and im dissapointed in his average speed. The grass starter has monstrous speed and above average defense so im having a hard time picking which one to get. And Jalorda's Dream World ability + Leaf Storm is a deadly combo that looks very fun.

woobat...seriously, woobat?

what kind of a name is woobat, especially for the pokemon that is OBVIOUSLY taking over the role of ZUBAT, the least the could do is make a large difference between the two, but instead they change the first sound of it and say "yeah, thats good enough"

I'd assume 'yes' IF the foe is the one that has the ability Antagonist

antagonist: All moves or abilities that would normally increase a stat will decrease it, and ones that would normally decrease a stat will increase it. This also applies to self-inflicted moves (bulbapedia)

I mean if you have antagonist, and you use swagger. He gets confused and -6 attack. Good idea, isn't it?

I'm not sure actually, i kno the ability effects stat changes to yourself but i have no clue if u do it to an enemy. I would guess no because that doesnt seem like it works that way.

I just looked up the serebii definition of it and it says: Moves used on the pokemon that raise stats lower stats, while the moves that lower the stats raise the stat.

It says "on the pokemon" so im gonna guess that it means swagger would not lower their attack unless, like Kamaran said, they also have the ability

I hope there's enough space to fit Mijimaru(or however it's spelled) in case I ever decide to get Oshawatt as my starter.

10 Character slots for English version, it always was :)
Title: Re: [Official News] English names.
Post by: TrainerX on February 12, 2011, 01:21:31 PM
I couldn't remember how many there were, because I never nickname my pokemon. In Red Version I think there were even more slots on it. When I was five I caught a Magikarp in Vermillion city and nicknamed it Magikarpet. Maybe I should say something on topic now...
I like some of the english names for Generation 5, but the rest of them should have kept their Japanese names.

Well, all pokemon names are within 10 characters, hence why the name of one being incomplete, that is Feraligatr. (anyway, I consider it incomplete)

I've forced taught myself to like all of the english names...hating them won't make them go away (trust me, I've thrown fits about some of them).

On a similar note: Fraxure and HAXorus=The Best Pokemon Names EVER!

On another similar note: Anyone else gonna nickname their Oshawott "Oshawut?"...?
