Title: The Skyrim Thread!
Post by: loudskies on November 15, 2011, 03:13:06 AM
Wassup all my friends from Skyrim? Loud here, representing the Empire, and I have one thing to say;

Death to the Stormcloak Rebellion!

Yeah, I said it.

Don't worry, if you joined Stormcloak, we still love you, because in Skyrim, we have equal rights to say what we want, even if we are completely wrong. <3 Why do we have this right? because of the Empire!

:)

P.S, Discuss Skyrim.

Well, what is there to discuss.   This game is amazing.  The world is beautiful.  The combat is solid.  The story demands attention.  Aaaand fighting dragons is chansey fun as hell.

On a side note, as with all bethesda games I've found a glitch or two.  The one that actually annoyed me was the never disappearing arrow one.  I had an arrow lodged in my head for about 4 hours, until eventually it vanished.  It was kinda funny though.

Oh and Dark elves FTW!  (They resist fire and dragons breathe it.)

So many epic moments in Skyrim already. The tower where you fight your first dragon has become something of a personal deathground for me. I always lure the giants and mammoth I fight to that tower in order to battle them with the tactical advantage of having a corridor I can escape into where their big frames can't follow me...it works great for me, but I think the guards there really hate me...I mean the ones that haven't already been killed by the countless mammoth and giants I'm responsible for bringing there everyday.

Maybe they're trying to be a bit more realistic. I mean, if you actually got an arrow lodged in your head, I'm pretty sure you would have to pull it out, it wouldn't just disappear after a few minutes  :P

I think I came across some kinda glitch when I was playing the other day.  I looked up in the sky and I thought I saw what looked like a key, just hovering in the air.  I tried to grab it, but I couldn't.  I then realized that it was floating up into the atmosphere, away from the ground, not going sideways, just up.  I shot some arrows at, and I definitely hit it a few times, and eventually it drifted too high and then disappeared.  Anybody else see something similar?

I was chasing a rabbit and it attempted to start running away...but instead it just started floating up...and up and up and up until blasted it with a fireball and it shot about 60ft into a tree.

My friend has been finding a lot of bugs in the game, I have been working hard to fix them on the PC version (being a mod creator) At one moment, when he transformed into a werewolf, it still showed his weapon equipped on him in his hand, but he couldn't use it, just did the normal claw attack. When he transformed out, it returned to normal, but that was a weird bug. Some scripts may be broken in the game, maybe the things you guys are seeing as floating means the objects (or animals) stepped into an area where they become inactive, as in have no cell reference, and therefore float up since the game doesn't know where to put them. It could be the cell, or it could be the fact that you guys may be playing for hours, causing some of the scripts to merge with each-other until you reset the game. A simple patch will have it all fixed by the acyualy developers, but some modders out there know better than them. You can only install mods on a PC version, to do it anywhere else is expensive.

*Ahem*  Stupid mages?  There's nothing stupid about shooting fire from your hands and resurrecting people to fight for you.  A mage can be much more affective than a warrior if you have the right spells, gear, and know what you're doing.

I recommend you fight the giant now. They're still fun to beat at higher levels, but nothing is as epic as scurrying around Skyrim for 15min, avoiding blows and taking potshots until you finally fell the beast. One false move and you're dead but, when you defeat one while under-leveled...its an extremely rewarding feeling.

Alright, time for journal entries from all of Frenchfry's characters.

This Machine, Imperial Warrior. Day 9, 5:30 PM
Just killed a Blood Dragon with my bare hands. Sure, a sword and shield is more effective, but I had to put that Fists of Steel perk to use SOMEHOW. I also killed two giants at the same time as a werewolf, since they can't even stand up once I get swinging.

Wade, Dunmer Assassin, Day 16, 1:23 AM
Shadowmere killed a bear for me today. Forget followers, this horse is all I need in an ally. At least he's smart enough to wait outside while I work, so I can remain undetected.

Arya, High Elf Mage, Day 6, 3:20 PM
Selling copies of The Doors of Oblivion made me rich. Buying iron and leather to train in Smithing made me poor again. Enchanting all fifty of those Iron Daggers and selling them for 300 gold each made me filthy rich. It's great having the Black Star gem. Simply killing humans and trapping their souls with my Soultrap greatsword is so much easier than hunting Mammoth for their Grand Souls.

Not saying its anything wrong with mages but im against magic. Hate it, thats all. Think its way more effective than everything else, thats y i dont use it. I'd rather fight the dragons face to face sounds crazy but i'd rather it, more challenging....

Anyway stupid ppl didnt help me fight the dragon at all. I beat it with my ancient blade, omg did not know you could do a finisher to a dragon! My character finished it by leaping and stabbing its head into the ground, wiping her fore head and snatching her sword out i was like what!!!!!!!!!

My friend was like if I didnt see that, there is no-way i'd believe it lol two-handed swords rock!

I like skyrim way better than oblivion because Oblivion forces you to become a Mage and i hate magic with all my heart.

Though i do believe ppl in Oblivion give much better directions, than those in Skyrim, I've gotten lost on just about every quest so far lol. Too stubborn to use that magic spell that points you to your nearest goal. Hate magic wont ever use it....

I've, played for % hours but am not very far because i spend alotta time creating weapons and armor i've always wanted to be a blacksmith in real life so...thats where most of my gaming time goes

That reminds me what perk should i pick next for smithing dwarven or elven I dont know which items are worth more i sell everything i make and plan on making my house into a shop.

grammar is so bad right now because i cant see what i'm typing screen keeps jumping back up  while im typing so sry about that.

I see no difference from You're normal posts....

Oh yeah, oblivion is so bad because you have to be a Mage, yeah it's so bad when I can see in the dark, shoot fire balls to kill wolfs when out of arrows, scare off enemy's....etc.
Title: Re: The Skyrim Thread!
Post by: Bing on November 27, 2011, 09:18:02 PM
Actually being a mage in skyrim is a lot harder.  You have to dedicate perks to it.  And you pretty much need to wear the robes that restore magicka.  Which means your defense is lacking, dragons chansey hurt.  Being a tank is the simplest thing you can be.  I mean it's just this: Equip armor, sword.  Then run in and swing til everything is dead.
As a mage, I have to think during battle.  I have to plan my moves, conserve my magicka, take cover and pick the right spells to deal max damage.  I can't just run in swinging.  I'd get killed.

As far as I'm concerned mages, and assassins  Require the most thought to use.

I'm a mage and I just roll around in heavy armour I've enchanted to decrease destruction costs. It helps that I've put all my level ups into Mana. Impact is the best perk ever, dragons can't do anything anymore.

Also, remember that no matter what your character is, Blacksmithing is an extremely important skill, especially if you want to have the coolest looking and most effective armors (Glass and Dragonscale for light, Daedric and Dragonbone for heavy). To level it the fastest, simply craft iron daggers. They only cost one iron ingot and one leather strip to make. It took me about eight daggers to get from level 70 to 71, without the Warrior Stone activated. Hell, unless you have an astounding Speech skill, which is a real bitch train, it's also the only affordable way of having a reliable means to get new equipment.

Ok, My friend wants me to buy Skyrim because me working on the mods through his cuts through his game time. Anyone have a suggestion for what I should make, something you don't see in the game, or think isn't available? I'm still perfecting the Paladin VS Necromancer mod, with actual bonuses for choosing either side.

This game is too easy. Im already lvl 46, have 100 destruction magic, and the best mage gear in the game, and im not even that far into the main quest i think. I just learned Dragonrend. Ive just been doing a heck ton of sidequests. Ive gotten to the point where i can kill a dragon in 30 seconds before he can even breath fire at me. And i havent used cheats yet. I feel like i lvled so fast.

Lol... you may be right. Haha i havent gotten on LoL since it came out. Hmm maybe i have been playing too much.

And i think ill try turning the difficulty up but i might have a problem. See since im all mage i have only put points into magicka ever since the beginning so i have like 700 magic now but i still have 100 health lol. I can get one shotted by archers sometimes. So i have to rely on killing everything so fast that they cant touch me.

Here's a fun challenge:
Play on Master
No equipment
No magic
No powers
Cannot be a werewolf or vampire
No followers
Fists and shouts only.
You are allowed one ring with a fortify unarmed enchantment, as long as it has no armor rating.

Get to it. I recommend learning Dragonrend as soon as possible, since you have no means of using ranged attacks, except for Shouts.

I've kind of done that. I have a Kahjit called Punch who goes around on Master difficulty, using only punching for damage. It got a lot more fun when I finally levelled heavy armour enough to get Fists of Steel.

I've beaten everything in oblivion, without any cheats or help took 6 yrs...yeah maybe thats slow.... But one of the first main storyline quest, you have to(no choice about it) become a mage and join (....omg its been so long) i think it was the mage guild, you had to join. but u had to join it the theif quest for the idiot who said i cant build  a thief  are not even required to beat the game... you are forced to join the mage guild. if you didnt then you never beat much of the main storyline. and After i beat the game i have the strategy guid and it plain out right tells you u have no choice but to join the mage guild during the main storyline....what game did yall play.

as for viper saying its too easy start over use no magic no enchanted weapons no form of magic of anykind atall just a person with skill and keep the dificulty at max then welcom to my world

There is absolutely no need to join the mages guild to complete the main quest. The only faction you HAVE to join is the Blades.

nope ur right...just felt like i was forced i guess idk i havent played it in forever

oh well i hate magic and didnt enjoy oblivion cuz i thought i had to use it...i already beat it and would never play it again...cuz i hate magik oh well sry yall are right.

ok so i started as a mage and im pissed

game way to easy and i never take damage on max diff

dragons on the other hand are F-ing un beatable unlike everything else

dragon priest way too easy as well

enchanting...keeps me too rich... now i have like way more than i can spend... and two houses...

i went threw the game in so little time it was ridiculus

its not fair i notice that quest for mages are very different from other players quest...even if u talk to the same ppl....

using magic was not challenging at all i dont know what problems yall were having but all u have to do is conjuration and restoration (heal all fighters and conjurations)and never travel alone-get married and go to college nothing can stop u after that. Enchanting helps with funds speechcraft as well. still cant figure how to beat dragons tho... stilll i say its harder hacking and slashing(which i dont do)

That's funny. I found dragons to be incredibly easy to fight- getting their attention, on the other hand...
And anything with a significant amount of health or in great numbers tends to be difficult, since you end up running out of Magika before they die. Other mages also like to cause trouble.
The Mage's quests were actually pretty bland in comparison to the Dark Brotherhood's, and didn't offer the huge gameplay change of becoming a werewolf, like the Companions.

I agree actually, the worst thing to go against as a mage is something with a ton of health. I ended up needing alot of magicka pots. And dragons were generally easy for me too. As for the mages quest, ya there wasnt much change in the end, i did however like the archmages robes you get, which seem to be the best mage gear you can get ingame.

I prefer having light armor over clothes. Since my enchantment skill is high and I have Azura's star, I just stack Magika increase and regen rate increase enchantments on all my gear.

Max out your enchantment skill and get the right perks and you can put 25% spell school cost reduction on 4 of your items, making the total cost of any spell in that school 0. I did this for destruction and it is the most awesome thing ever. Especially now that I have lightning storm, I can just kill everything.

The downside is that I only did it after I'd reached level 44, and had put all my level ups into mana so I could cast more spells. Now I can cast infinite spells, and have super low hp. Yay!

Now you can start maxing out conjuration!

Speaking of which, I'm hoping the DLC for skyrim will include more summon creatures. What of you?

What an excellent strategist you turned out to be.

Personally, I find the most entertaining way to play is still as a warrior.

>Imperial tank
>Attack Stormcloak fort in the Rift
>Dragon attacks within seconds of the attack beginning
>Fighting 5+ enemies at once while a dragon strafes the fortress
>MFW

Clearly that didn't help you much against the Dragons, which happen to be the sweet, chocolate center of the double-layer cake that is skyrim.

By the way, as far as followers go, you could do better. Vilkas is my choice melee, while I'd go with Aela for an archer.
