It's been a while since I've seen any of Cartoons! work come off smogon. There's not much cooler than his animation work, so I give you credit for having a wicked avatar.

I used to name my Totodile back in the original GSC era Chocodile, which was on a whim after playing it over during breakfast and I rather liked it. Then I found a few people on the internet had also named him similarly and I felt completeness over keeping him that way.

Otherwise, I usually just pick something random, keep it the same, or choose something I feel fits the Pokemon's personality. I had an unevolved Makuhita for all of HGSS named Gruul.

I realised the other day that all the Pokemon in Gen V remind me of enemies and tameable monsters from the old school Monster Quest games.

Personally Mt.Moon
If you started with bulbasaur/squirtle. You pretty much just kapowed Brock with one lvl 11 pokemon. With the constant encounters, and your low level team, this was absolute hell. Plus, I always got lost ¬_¬

I played so much as a kid, that I have most of the caves that needed Flash memorized...

But Mt. Moon was a pain when I chose Bulbasaur. Still, easily the most hated for me is the Safari Zone. How many Pokeballs can one Kangaskhan break free of? ¬_¬

Ideas & Suggestions / Re: Levels and badges
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:51:45 AM »
When you have your first badge, you can of course go to the third gym, but there will the leader's pokémon be at level 30, so you are kind of supposed to follow the path.
And where exactly did you get this information?
And these restrictions make the game practically unplayable unless you want challenge the gym leaders.

I always assumed we were scaling the gyms appropriately to level. IE: You beat the first gym, the rock gym, and can freely go to the fifteenth gym, the ice gym, and those Pokemon would now be scaled up to the same level as any other second gym.

Hrm... I have to give most idea threads credit, as they lead me to interesting ideas of my own.

Don't take this as law as it just occurred to me while noshing some breakfast and listening to some music, but we could always implement a level cap once you acquire certain badges. It could also be used to add a challenging modifier to the gyms.

For example, the first gym leader could have a level cap of 10, meaning that before you acquire their badge, you cannot raise any of your Pokemon higher than that. (However, you are free to raise an unlimited number of Pokemon up to that level). Then, once you fight the gym leader, most of their Pokemon will be a level or two higher than yours, adding a challenging feel to it.

Once beaten, you gain the badge and the ability to move on the next level cap.

This would solve the issue of people over leveling their Pokemon early in the game, the difficulty issue that most people seem to think it will lack (Though trust me, I plan to make plenty of challenges for you to overcome) and the issue of (Is it really an issue or did I simply think I read about it somewhere?) players breezing through the game too quickly. It would simply be one more reason to take it slowly and enjoy the content.

Thoughts?

[]... Zoom Lense are normally banned from competative play or not looked upon lightly.

Zoom Lens doesn't increase crit chance, it actually increases Accuracy by 20% if the user moves after the opponent. There was an error in translation and it ended up saying crit. However, testing has proven (Mine and others, if you'd care to look in to it) that it is indeed a 20% accuracy boost. The translation error was fixed in games after Diamond and Pearl.

In reference to crit boosting items, they are not banned per se. They're just generally looked down upon as they throw more luck into the game.

I read the post wrong and was thinking of scope lense. And isn't Tyranitar's most used sets its lead set followed by its bait set? The bait set is probably its best method of getting rid of Scizor and Jirachi (and other less important steel types who probably wouldn't switch into him anyway) by having the same set as the choiced variants but with a Babiri berry instead. From what I see on PO is that Tyranitar is being lessed used with choice items in turn for the standard lead set because of the booming usage of Doryuzzu.

That would be a fair description of his usage statistics, though the CBand set is still finding the most usage at the moment, despite the rising popularly of Doryuzzu. (Some habits are hard to break right away, eh?)

However, that's a bit off topic.

I can overlook the questioning of my competitive battling experience. (Seeing as I'm going on ten years of it now, so it's not a big deal.)

All i got to say is, why in the hell would u be running dark pulse on a tyranitar?

Tyranitar's base attack = 134
base SpAtk= 95

If you have dark pulse on a tyranitar switch it to crunch.

Not to sound condescending, but I would infer that you have less competitive battling experience than me from that statement alone. From Gen III onward Tyraniboah was one of Tyranitar's most lethal movesets. (And I helped popularize it.)

It was commonly used on a team where it could take advantage of getting Tyranitar's most used counters to switch in on him, substituting on the switch, and then taking care of them using their crappy Special Defense stat. (Read: Scizor, a common switch in. He can take everything barring a SE crit, but cannot take even a single flamethrower.) Dark Pulse or Crunch were interchangeable, with the third move generally being Focus Punch to make good use of the Sub and his ability to negate Leftovers.

I would never send a Tyranitar for a 1v1 against a Dragonite anyway. If he hasnt had time to DD i pull him out.

And ive never seen my Tar been hit by a Focus Blast before so idk if he would survive, but i do know superpower wrecks him up

Then you would know that you proposed a situation that would never actually happen. You would never send in a Tyranitar against a Dragonite, and the reverse is also true.

CScarf is Tyranitar's second most common set, therefor it is usually prepared for if there is a flaw in team building that would lead to a weakness from Scarftar. If you are running Scarfed Dragonite, another equally common set, then it all comes down to whoever was out first.

In the situation the OP provided, however, there were no clear indicators to an ongoing battle, so it's assumd that both of them are out at the same time (They were your starters, which would not be a stretch as both are used as leads), in which case Dragonite would have the advantage.

Most liked character(s): Joker, Kasumi, Mordin, Garrus, Wrex, and Legion.
    - Not necessarily in that order.
Least liked character(s): Samara.
   - Other than her, there are things I like and dislike about the majority of other characters.

Currently, I have beaten the original ME with a character of every history line and class type. I've finished up two playthroughs on ME2 on Insane as an Infiltrator, Vanguard, and Soldier. My favorite class by far was Sentinel in ME and Infiltrator in ME2. My Infiltrator will be the one I am 'porting into ME3.

Realistically, Salamence would win against all the others. Dragonite would come in second, but that is only assuming a one on one fight with both Pokemon starting fresh.

Personally, I would choose Aggron as he is one of my favorite Pokemon.

Outside of Tournament settings, I agree with Gammal that it would be a fun thing for trainers. And it wouldn't be too hard to work out.

My idea would be more of a battle area in every town (Similar to a gym in setting) where trainers could go to compete like you suggested. Think similar to the battling area in the Pokemon Centers. They would set up the rules for the fight, the other players would agree to them, and then away to battling!

I think battling out in the woods, with no rules to speak of, would add character as well. It's almost like a battle away from the watchful eyes of everyone else, where anything goes and it's up to the trainers to stick by what they say.

But I'm rambling and I digress.
