Title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: TrainerX on October 26, 2010, 11:41:21 pm
My uncle just recently got this game, and I think it's pretty good. Does anyone else play this game? On mine I'm an Imperial, with a custom class. I've been put in jail a lot, mostly for punching people in the face when they annoyed me. I've also stolen some things, but I only got caught for that twice. Does anyone know where to find the Gray Fox? I'm looking for him, but I can't find him... I go to where the note tells me to at midnight, but it doesn't give a specific location.

The Gray Fox specifically, or the entrance exam to the Thieves Guild? If you're trying to join the Thieves Guild, you'll find a man with a torch in the Waterfront District. I can't remember the exact spot off the top of my head and with no reference, but it's in the portion with a bunch of shacks. You'll find him behind a house with a stone wall surrounding the yard.

Also, yes. I play. I have three different characters of varying levels and skills. I have an Archer, a Mage, and an Assassin, all three being custom classes. So far? I can't remember if I've ever been to prison. Maybe once or twice between all my characters. If I do something, I don't get caught. So taught to me by the Dark Brotherhood.

Is that the guy near that stolen horse? I talked to him, but he didn't really tell me anything. How do you show the note to people?

I only know of two ways to get access to the thieves guild (there may be more), so I can only tell you what I know. Seeing as I can't just peer into your game. The first is through talking with the guards, random people, posters, etc. until you get the option to ask about 'Gray Fox' in conversation.

Go talk to a beggar somewhere in the city. The poor people. They should tell you exactly where to go in order to join. If that's not available, you can always just go wait down by the Waterfront. At midnight every night the initiator shows up. He's in the.... Garden of Doleroth, iirc. I could never quite get the name right. The guys name is Armand, or something. He'll be your first Doyen, or lieutenant.

Ok, thanks. I think the guy I was talking about is the one you're talking about. I'll have find out when I get home, since I'm on vacation. I did talk to a beggar, but she only told me what I already knew. I think in the note I got it said that the garden is called the Garden of Daleroth. I can't find a garden in the water district. I'll have to look around some more, because I didn't really pay attention to the guy I found. I did find a quest looking for the Gray Fox though, which gave me an enchanted sword, which helped when I fought some pirates and helped me win a couple of arena battles.

I just showed a picture with me in my modded game, yeah modding can be funny, but it also adds rich and plentiful content to a game. I could play my modded version of oblivion over and over, and it would not get old, because the game world is as dynamic as the world we live in  :D

Sorry about the double post, but it's been a while since anyone's posted. I broke into this guys house, and I heard growling. I looked over, and a big attack dog was about to attack me. After I killed it, I searched it to see if it had anything worth taking, and when I looked at the dog it said "search Charolette." I'm just like WTH, who names a vicious attack dog Charolette?

Oh... that's a bit boring :P
Anybody use spells?
I find swords and bows a lot more useful

I have a mage who uses swords, level 31, and a rogue thing who uses bows at level 18

I like swords and bows better, but I'm thinking about making a mage. I think if I make a mage it'll be a Breton, and if I make a battle mage it'll be a High Elf, and I'll make a Conjurer with a Dark Elf. So far I just have a swordsman and a thief. I use the swordsman for the main quest, and the thief when I feel like getting revenge on someone or just stealing. I think I'll make an assassin next.

I'm an assasin atm.
Most satisfying

I liked the quest Glarthir gives you, it was amusing. If I make an assassin I'm going to kill him, and take all of his stuff. I like dragging bodies around and putting them in weird positions, making it look like they commited suicide, or stuffing them in small places. The weird thing is, if you put a body in a fire, it doesn't burn.

That sounds awesome!!! Magic is kinda boring to me because the spells are all basicly the same. Each new one is a weak spell, and the rest are just upgraded versions of it. At least with the different kinds of magic there's more variety. Imagine if they only had destruction magic. Your modded version's magic sounds way more awesome. But still, if I rated Oblivion I would give it 10.

I'm double posting again, but this double post is my 100th post!!! Anyway, I made an Assassin. He's a Wood Elf with the Shadow as his birthsign. I'm going to make a ninja next. I don't know what he'll use for weapons yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dagger?
Seems appropriate

That's all I can think of. Maybe I can find a sword like the ninja's used... I guess if I have to a dagger will work. I'll him have a good athletics skill, and I'll give him a good acrobatics skill.

I love Oblivion. It's probably my favorite game. I've had to reinstall a good plenty times though. Lost a lot of data. My current game has 130 hours. I'm a Red Guard with a custom class. He is level 38. With a number of my main skills mastered.

I need to start a new account soon. Everyone besides my merchant and the few people you can't kill in the Imperial city are dead. I've stolen everything from all of the houses in the Imperial City and fenced them. I have a little over 2 million gold. I haven't messed with any mods yet though.

I'm double posting again, but has anyone else seen the trailer for Skyrim? It looks awesome! Bethesda improved the third-person view, made it possible to equip a weapon to each hand, you can equip a spell in each hand, or two in one hand, which fuses the spells. When you talk to an NPC, the screen doesn't zoom in, and they don't stare at you the whole conversation. They look at you for a while after you start talking, and then they'll resume whatever they were doing while the rest of the conversation happens.

Yup. Read all the things that are changing. I'm unhappy about some of them and much happier about others. I want to know if there are even going to be classes this time around. The way it seemed in the articles is that they eliminated classes. They've also eliminated some skills. I'm curious on how the combat is going to change as well. As much as I love Oblivion, I wasn't huge on the easy combat. A more dynamic combat leveling system is definitely necessary. The screen shots are looking nice though. It shouldn't disappoint! It's just a shame it's 10 months away...

I hope they add spears. When I read Gameinformer's article about it, it sounded like they're going to put kids in the game. They'll probably have to make them invincible if they do. I only knew that they got rid of Mysticism. What else did they get rid of?

From what I read, they are bringing in a lot more voice actors. They said that was a big complaint of Oblivion (which I agree with). I'm hoping they'll have specialty vendors in Skyrim. I'm sick of finding rare items ($21,600 gold ring) and only being able to sell it for a maximum of $2000 gold (only after getting your merch. up to above level 90)... I would love for there to be someone who can buy items for at least $10-15k gold like they had in Morrowind (the crab vendor).

I read that they were going to have more voice actors too. And there was the Creeper in Morrowind too, but I think he only had 5000 gold.

Yeah. I knew there was one with less gold, but I couldn't remember the name. I just loved the crab merchant.

Now I'm just installing tons of mods because I want to keep playing Oblivion.

If Bethesda made an Elder Scrolls MMO, it would be awesome. Imagine the Guilds from the single-player games. You could have multiple assassins help each other to kill a certain person, or the assassins could be trying to kill the person first to get the reward. You could do the same thing with the thieves guild. And the Fighters guild and Mages guild could probably have awesome stuff like that too, but I don't want to come up with ideas for a while.

if they made the elder scrolls into a mmo they'd have to get rid of things like 100% chameleon because it'd be really cheap and fix the cheating glitches.
