Title: It doesn't even make sense now...
Post by: Tristan on December 05, 2010, 08:16:24 AM
Okay, so it seems with each new generation the pokemon get a little bit ... dumber looking. There are too many cutesy pokemon and they're looking more and more ... babyish? They start to look like weird cartoons, like this guy: (http://static.marriland.com/images/bw/sprites/front/norm/505_miruhoggu_front_norm.png)

To the point, it seems like they don't even care about logic anymore. With pokemon born wearing clothes, such as this guy: (http://static.marriland.com/images/bw/sprites/front/norm/539_dageki_front_norm.png), you wonder how it could get much worse right?

Well how do you explain this: (http://static.marriland.com/images/bw/sprites/front/norm/591_morobareru_front_norm.png)

Honestly, HOW DOES IT WORK?! A pokemon born with the pokeball design on it used as a defense mechanism ... sure ... because a pokeball is a natural design...I don't get it. It's like their acknowledging that humans make pokemon...not....whatever legendary they claim did now. I miss when Mew was god :(

True the pokemon have been getting more and more "cartoonist", but I think that gen V has the most diverse type coverage and most powerful pokemon ever.

I don't see much of a problem with the meerkat guy, sure his eyes are weird... but nobody will use him.

As for the karate dude, Pokémon wear clothes in Generation 1, Machoke, Machamp, Jynx, Hitmonchan. Jynx and Hitmonchan were basic Pokémon back then, so they were born with clothes...

The mushroom thing's 'story' is that it was a basic mushroom thing to begin with, but since humans and Pokémon became more and more friends, wild Pokémon wanted trainers to catch them, so the mushrooms adapted the way they looked to catch pray.
Again, Generation I had Voltorb and Electrode which practically are Pokéballs.

I don't see much of a problem with how they look, I only focus on how strong they are at battling.

Well once you get into the 5 or 6 hundreds, ideas are bound to be out there, or be repeats of other pokemon. I've said before that there are way too many pokemon. Do we really need over 100 new pokemon per generation? I say no.

they are getting better every gen, but there are too many abilitys.

Abilities. and no we don't need so many pokemon. New pokemon every generation is fine, but not this many.

crap... all I want to see is every type combination, not repeats. there are so many repeated types.
When they do that then I will pick my favorite team.

It's nice to have a lot of choice, if it had just stuck to Gen I Pokémon, then everyone would have the same teams, I think.

But I think they should have stopped at Sinnoh. I mean - in Diamon and Pearl, we learn everything about the Pokémon world. Arceus is born, makes Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. Giratina gets banished. Makes the lake fairies, then the world just evolves from there... why do we need to expand the story more? I'm all for new regions and that - but the new Pokémon idea is stupid. I'd have liked to have seen the Unova region, but with a mix of all the Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh.

Yeah thats the thing, I'm glad they kept adding pokemon because it made it so that essentially no two trainers would have the same team. However, I think they should just stop here. The new pokemon are the most powerful ever and kind of make the originals look well...a bit outdated.

But we all know they'll probably never stop, because more pokemon = more money. Every new game, every new tv series, its all about money. Why make more cuter pokemon? Cuteness sells. Look how far pikachu's cuteness went. He's on everything you can think of for kids...

It made me mad when they said there are only Generation V Pokemon in Isshu.
" We're starting anew! It'll be just like the first games!"
No, it won't. Especially since none of my old favorites are in the game.

I hope they at least have a nice balance of pokemon then. Not like Gen 4, where your only fire choices are Infernape or Rapidash.

I think the reason they're doing this is because they have too many pokemon to fit in one game at one time. They're not going to put every species in one game.

Then again it could just be marketing. They have never, and will never, put all the pokemon in one generation of game. I don't think. Part of the ploy is that you can't catch them all in oen game. You have to buy multiple games, or know someone who's willing to buy the other game so you can trade with them.

There loads of fighting-type Pokémon in the Unova region... like... LOADS.

The chandelier ghost is sort of like Rotom, in the sense that a ghost possessed a chandelier to start the species.

Can't find anything to justify the existence of the Ice-Cream Pokémon. Probably formed from clouds or something, but looks like ice creams cos ICE CREAM IS EFFING YUMMY.

It isn't weak, it has high Special Stats and a decent attack.

Ergo, not weak. It just looks weak... and also tasty.

Well, it's obvious isn't it. Satoshi Tajiri, assuming he's still alive, and his development team, are in it for money, not for the original fun of it. Sure, he saved Nintendo when they came out with the GameBoy Color, and had a limited amount of games for it, but that was when he had a dream. Now, you guys are right, the Pokemon may be powerful, but they're look is a little questionable. It seems like someone just looked at something and said, "I'll make that into a Pokemon because I'm running out of ideas," and viola, a semi-retarded looking creature is born who easily beats the other generations. I miss the old days when Gyrados was a dragon type, and Alakazam kicked serious booty. It's not the same anymore. :(

Gyarados never was a dragon type pokemon... you might have thought it was dragon because Lance had two I think of them.

EDIT: Corrected 2 typos

Woah... I think this is the first time I've even had to re-read one of Jerry's posts because of grammatical errors. That's actually pretty impressive, for over a thousand posts...

Anyway, cortex, I haven't seen a problem until B&W. Considering how many pokemon have been made so far, you can't accuse him of not caring about anything but money. HUNDREDS of completely made-up animals, and only now are they getting weird. Even the first gen... That was over a hundred pokemon. Obviously the more you make, the lower the quality of each unique pokemon is going to be. Besides, there are still plenty of awesome new ones, so there's no problem.

Well, about the Gyrados thing, there was a glitch in R/B/Y where an ice or dragon type attack was super effective. I thought it would be a little humorous to point that out since it only happened to Lance's Gyrados at a random time. And, yeah, I think it's all about money now than anything else because the ideas are getting too weird. The first three gen. were at least clever. The fourth was a completion, and now the fifth is like starting over. Seriously, can you think of any other possibility? We also know that in a year or so, there will be a third game with more features than B/W that won't work for B/W, like platinum, emerald, crystal, and yellow. It's marketing at it's best, but robbing the past idea.

I realised the other day that all the Pokemon in Gen V remind me of enemies and tameable monsters from the old school Monster Quest games.
