Title: Dubstep
Post by: Monzta on June 11, 2011, 05:01:22 PM
I've been a fan of dubstep for too long, might as well make a thread about it.
It's a type of electro dance music and is my favourite drug. I've recently started mixing with dubstep songs, and it sounds like Chuck Norris crying. (That's supposed to be a good thing.)
Here are some of my favourites:

(First one is a mix of dubstep and metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT3Oi0Z0XeE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT3Oi0Z0XeE)

(Second by my favourite band, Skrillex) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSeNSzJ2-Jw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSeNSzJ2-Jw)

You guys have to check 'em out. Discuss here =3=

I'm not really a fan, my brother is currently in-love with it. And he has a tendency to make sure the rest of the house can here his music too while he listens to it, and it's okay. But I'm happy you like it(:

It's been around since 2007, but was originally invented by house artists in about 1998 or 1990

Wow, those are some amazing Wubs (Dubs? Subs? What?). I've been listening to some crap compared to this stuff.

After some searching, I did find these. They're both Zelda-based.

This thread makes me sad... I don't consider dubstep music...  And I'm a music major.

This is real music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fPd-CE3JKQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fPd-CE3JKQ)

As is this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuuJRsBiPho (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuuJRsBiPho)

The first link is a hardcore punk band, the second is a ska band.  You might like one or the other so listen to both.

*Sigh*

Bing, you make me sad, because you don't like Dubstep, and you don't even consider it music.

As a storyteller once said, or at least how I choose to interpret it, "Music is Music, no matter how brain-damaging or annoying."

Yeah, something like that.

I'm sorry but I have a hard time accepting anything completely produced on a computer as music.  In my eyes music should be done with real instruments.  Not with noises your computer can make.  Also dubstep is pretty easy to make.  That last comment is prolly gonna make you pissed, but remember I'm a music major.  I've taken classes on this computer music stuff.  I know how easy it is.  Trust me.

I respect everyone's opinion but if you don't like it why are you on this thread? That's like me hating pokemon but being on this forums ...

ps you're basically saying if it'e easy to make then it's not real music which is wrong. Music is music it doesn't matter how you make it and as much as i hate to admit it even crap like screamo is music everyone has their own taste, just because your a music major doesn't mean you have the power to decide what is and what's not music.

If it was easy then go get rich by making dubstep but w/e lets get off this topic and back to Dubstep who is your favorite artist Monzta obviously said Skrillex but for me it has to be Doctor P his music gives me sexual thoughts  :P

Ok, well I guess I'm sorry... wait what!?

If you post a thread about dubstep, then I'll give my opinion on it.  if you don't want that then don't post.  Sorry, but I honestly don't care.  It's a terrible genre, and I just can't bring myself to respect it.  That's all.

It's a terrible genre in YOUR opinion, and YOU can't bring yourself to respect it.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that other people shouldn't like it. Other people have their own opinions, and their own tastes in music. I'm sure they don't care if you gave your opinion, it's probably just what you said and the way you said it.

Dupstep falls into the same catagory as electronica with me, meaning that it's pretty fun to dance to at parties and stuff, but I'd never stick it on my ipod to listen to. Mainly, cos it all sounds the same and secondly, it sounds a little bit rubbish.

It's hard to pigeon hole Deadmau5 into a genre but this song and the majority of his other songs you can probably label "progressive house" and get away with it.

As far as dubstep goes, it actually has a pretty interesting history. It originated in London during the late 90s and sounded drastically different than the "brostep" most of you are listening to today.

Dubstep was originally a lot more atmospheric and deeper than it is now, combining influences of dub reggae and 2 step garrage....hence dubstep. Artists like Kode9, (early) Benga and Skream, Digital Mystikz, etc. pioneered and popularized the scene. Look up some of their stuff to hear what it sounded like and how completely different it is from the stuff you guys think is dubstep.

Now I don't know exactly how the sound your listening to now evolved from that but it could be attributed to original dubstep moving away from the underground and gaining some mainstream popularity. People outside of the dubstep scene around the world were hearing about some these guys and their music. Now a few of these artists, like Caspa and Rusko, were incorporating elements closer to what you guys are listening to. From there, other artists started deviating away completely from its original elements (reggae dub and garrage 2 step) and it became something that is altogether different and really only tied together by sharing a similar pace/BPM.

What you guys are listening to is what original fans of the music call "brostep". No coincidence to the large amount of frat boy types that have taken a likening to it (I remember, before I even heard of the term brostep, I was DJing at this coffee shop and some bro with a thick surfer accent came up to me and was like "can you play some dubbity-dub"...obviously after I found out about brostep, I thought the term was extremely appropriate).

Brostep is a lot more noisy and chaotic, and is more driven by the high pitched synth noises and wobble sound.

Now whether dubstep or brostep is quality music is totally up to the individual. Personally I like both, although I can def see why people hate on brostep, the scene is kind of polluted with people who have gravitated to it for the wrong reasons (i.e just because its the popular new thing or because its JUST SO EFFING HARD IT MELTS MY FACE OFF).

What's important is that you know the history behind it, and that the "dubstep" your listening to now, really is something completely different to what the name once referred to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yftF20zuPBQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yftF20zuPBQ)

Oh and to the person that thinks dubstep is easy to make...It takes a hell of a lot of sequencing and production work to create this sorta stuff. I work with electronic music production myself and also play 4 different musical instruments and it's no walk in the park lol. A lot of work goes into these tunes.
