To answer DarkStar64 about Nico Nico Chorus
Nico Nico Chorus's are a compilation of Japanese singers and voice actors/actresses (like people who do voices of Death Note, Higurashi, lucky star, Soul Eater, Pokemon, any and all anime) that do covers of Vocaloid songs, some of the vocaloid voices are created from these singers, thus the similarities. They are rather famous in japan and have a decent following; With good reason, they sing really beautifully.

This one is funny ^^

Vocaloid was featured on CNN a few months back, covering not only their rise in popularity, but also their commercial deal with TOYOTA and the recent 4th of July Concert that was entirely sold out. The CNN report also Speaks of a popular pop group AKB48, who has a "new member" Aimi Eguchi, who is in fact computer generated

she is basically a life like vocaloid

here is the CNN report
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyECAM-ml2A

The TOYOTA commercial will not be airing on television in the U.S, simply because Vocaloid is not well known here, neither is it well received. I cannot tell you how many people were actually scared of the fact that it was a computer singing instead of a person. Outside of the U.S Vocaloid is gaining major attention and a nice fan base, and as the News reporter had said, their music is topping the charts.

Advancements in Vocaloid and Holographic Technology

They are getting rather advanced with the programs they are putting out. VPVP (Vocaloid promotional Video Production) released Miku Miku Dance a while back as freeware, specifically to advertise the Vocaloid Software. They have since then made boat loads of money, and the soft ware they have been producing is getting pretty revolutionary.

Of course one their more well known feats is the Hologram Concerts, but aside from that the Vocal programs are being pushed further as well. with MMDAgent, you can actually talk with Vocaloids like miku, and I am sure as it gets more advanced, these conversations are going to be more and more fluid

One word for Vocaloid: AWSOME!

Here are some of my favorite songs from them!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip1qrvvCPlU - Matryoshka
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLcw8Sq_YOw - Romeo & Cinderella
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rin+kagamine+daughter+of+evil&aq=3&oq=rin+kagamine+ - Daughter of Evil
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0-2lzA7_Cg - Po-Pi-Po

I have lots of others, but if I put all of them in here, then it'd probably fill the page, c:.

I also found something very similar to Vocaloid too, something called UTAU where you can do most of the things Vocaloid can for free, AND make your own singer, I tried it out myself, but it's a bit embarrasing, so I wont link it. :3

Back to topic, Vocaloid's are the BEST. SINGERS. EVER!

Also, found a parody of Po Pi Po, funny as hell! XD

Ah yes, UTAU is a similar program, just as Lugiafan98 said

One of the more famous Utau models is Teto

She became so popular in fact that they made a voice for her and is frequently seen with the Vocaloids, one song in particular is Triple Baka

As of yet, only California has featured Vocaloid concerts

One in Los Angeles that took place between July 1-4, which was sold out and was featured in the CNN report

The other one took place in San Francisco between September 9th and 18th

I'll keep an eye out for future concerts, I am going to the next one regardless

I've seen alot of video's about how they might make singing robots in the future, the first model used Vocaloid to synthesise the music. I have a feeling that alot of the singers that we have today are going to be replaced. Vocaloid and UTAU are going to get really popular really fast.

Well think of the implications of this kind of technology

If we have enough information on them, we could bring back dead singers or actors and have them perform on stage again.

We could have holographic pokemon battles, where the "pokemon gym" has your Charizard zooming about the field taking on Blazikin or something

Yu Gi Oh fans would flip out if they knew that the tech is available today to make those duels in the show a reality

There is a lot more to Vocaloid then just the singing, the implications this technology has for the future just makes me giddy
Title: Re: VOCALOID

Yes, you raved about this yesterday to me rob. I see it being used for a lot of pranks as well. Imagine making a clone of yourself that disapears or disguising yourself to look like someone, or something else. rob even said, the technology is there. Plus, vocaloid seems to have become the base to really test this in the public (Japan) since the characters in vocaloid are recognizable.

Rob is right, this technology can be used for anything. It'd be really cool to see stuff like that!

But Cortex brings up a good point, it also has serious consequences if used the wrong way.

Rob is right, this technology can be used for anything. It'd be really cool to see stuff like that!

So far, the "tests" as Cortex puts it have been going well, even in the U.S, which has vary little knowledge of what is going on has had those sold out concerts. Things like 3D Tv's and 3ds's are becoming popular here as well, so it would naturally be assumed that this could lead to Holographic television and game play.

As far as "bad uses", This is just the commercialized stuff, I am sure that military applications are already in the works. There is a good and bad side to everything

Nuclear power-Nuclear bomb
Surgical lazer- Lazer weapons
Fireworks - missiles
television - subliminal messaging

While I don't know about the "disguise yourself with a hologram" bit, I know that they have been advancing the technology for several years now, I would not be surprised in the least if we go full Startreck in the next decade.

My only concern is that for the first time in a long time, America is the one that's behind the eight ball, Japan is at least a decade ahead of us technologically speaking, and they are only developing faster.

Ever heard of the three laws of robotics?

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

A kill switch. Transmitted on a frequency they receive their updates and other orders on commanding ,or forcing, them to dissemble.

That's only in the movies. We can make AI but it's not perfect, so don't count on a robot having rational thought.

Yeah, but you know what's be kinda cool? A computer you could socialise with, but then again, it'd probably talk back at you XD. I think we're getting a bit off topic anyway. To get back on topic lets talk about a newer version of Vocaloid. Its somethign called an append version, aparrently its supposed to make vocaloid sound realistic, and so far its working. heres an example:

As you can see, the Vocaloids are improving exceptionaly.

In the latest Versions of Vocaloid there are different versions of each voice. These versions are designed to show different emotions in the lyrics, this way the voice could fit the song they sing, or maybe at a new layer to the lyrics.

I tell robot not to listen to anyone but me.
I tell robot to capture everyone and lock them in a spaceship that robot will need to make.
I press switch and humans sent in space where they drift forever.

None of those laws prevent the robot to do that, but yet... anyone could do those. Are the people harmed in any way? No, they are in a spaceship with the minimum they need to survive. As crazy as it seems, it could happen. :P

Nah, was just stating that there was no need for even hackers to get involved :P

Because after all, it's the human controlling the robot who does the 'nasty' stuff.
