Title: Middle Stage
Post by: Tristan on January 15, 2012, 12:50:10 AM
So does anyone else prefer the middle stage or second evolution for some of the starters? Sure there are other Pokemon that I feel this way about, but with the starters its always been traditional to either keep them at their first stage or evolve them to their last. For example, I prefer Quilava over Typhlosion. Don't get me wrong, Typhlosion is awesome, but I like Quilava because it's still small enough to sit on a shoulder or follow a trainer around without looking out of place, yet not baby-ish looking like Cyndaquil. It's the perfect form, to me. There's also Bayleef, because I think Meganium looks terrible. Wartortle is pretty badass but Blastoise is one of my favorites so I have to evolve it.

Grovyle looks awesome to me compared to Sceptile.
That big tail sucks and it has a big belly which to me makes it look slow

I like grovile better than sceptile too. Also I really like wartorle's look, but blastoise's cannons are badass too. If only the two were combined. actually, wartorle has a kind of koopa-ish look from Mario. I kind of wish feraligatr and crocanaw's names were switched because crocodiles are more fierce and salt water crocodiles are the biggest crocodilian.

I'm not sure I like toterra's look, since it's asymmetrical. I'm a guy that likes symmetry.

when i play pokemon on nds, i allways start a new game with a diferent pokemon ( i hack to do that) then, depending on the pokemon, i evolve them or not, for example, i allready did a game using only Pichu because Pichu is so cute^^, another one is Glameow, its realy pretty and its like a real cat, unlike the fat evolution Purugly...
Another example is Slakoth, as you know, it has the Truant Ability that makes you lose one turn each two turns, i evolve it to Vigoroth and let it stay like that, i know Slaking power is a monstrosity but Truant Ability can be a real pain, and Vigoroth looks cooler
but its like is say in my sig, Pachiritsu its the cutest pokemon ever, its small enough to pick him up or set him on our shoulder, its cuddly too, and funny as hell^^

When I was looking at 5th gen starters I was kinda upset that the middle evo of both Snivy and Oshawott were so badass while in the next evolution they didn't look as great as I would expect. But I really do adore Krokorok, Dragonair, Seadra, Luxio, Kirlia, Quilava, Tranquill, Bayleef, Grovyle, Nidorino, Nidorina, Togetic, Duosion, Lairon and Wartortle. (not including the ones that only evolve once.)

i also think Grovyle looks better than Sceptile but Sceptile is stronger and faster than Grovyle.

I guess it's one of those 'metamorphosis' pokemon where a 'larva' drastically changes appearance.

I prefer Jigglypuff over Wigglytuff, Clefairy over Clefable and Pikachu over Raichu. Dont know why but Jigglypuff is badass with its attacks so is Clefairy. I never evolved Pikachu to Raichu because you couldnt do that in Yellow and have never even tried that.

Well.... Magmar, Electabuzz, Dusclops, etc...  I didn't like the added evolutions in Gen.4

I agree completely. Hell, I don't even think the added evolutions look good at all, they seem more cartoon-sih and less like their pre-evolutions than they should. Plus, Magmar went from being a Pokemon of no evolutions to having a full ensemble that could technically make him a candidate to be a starter Pokemon.

I actually like Pikachu's whole line.

Agreed there too, Pichu is adorable and I always liked the line by one of the NPCs in Gold/Silver/Crystal: "Professor Elm discovered that Pikachu is an evolved Pokemon! How incredible his discoveries are!"
