News & Announcements / Paperdoll Competition: Genbor is the Winner!
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:43:01 AM »
And our winner is, Genbor! With 27 votes for his Postman. Congratulations Genbor. Monzta stuck in there for awhile, and had a great entry. For the moment, Genbor is going to be offered a trial period with the Pixel Art Team. He will mostly be focusing on paperdolls for Pokemon Universe.

Thanks to all competitors, this was a long competition, but we have our winner.

Quote
Now for the finale, lets see who can take the prize and have the opportunity to develop a very unique skill. Here are the entries.

Monzta

Barman: A traditional, innkeeper type look. So fat, balding and wearing some kind of apron.

Genbor

Postman: I was thinking red for a main colour, mainly because blue would probably clash with the police sprites. As for clothing, a cap is a must, and preferably some kind of satchel to carry letters and whatnot in. The logo ( http://p1cture.it/images/dc7c7526bb9959cab6b4.png ) can be included, but doesn't have to.

All entries are beautiful, good luck to all. And happy voting.

As stated in the title, you can see who has made it to the finale. And Lubbies did a great job in this competition, so please thank him for his hard work. The winner of this last competition will have a trial period with the Pixel Art Team. You will learn, and hopefully, master some techniques in pixel art, and even possibly move on to other things; other than paperdolls. So lets get this on the road.

These descriptions are short, but allow for a lot of free play. Don't rush this round, as these sprites could possibly be used in the game, and you'll also have til 22nd of this month. Which is two weeks to complete your submission. Please use reference pictures and what ever resources you have to add as much detail, and originality as you can. Good luck, and let the best man win.

News & Announcements / Paperdoll Competition: Round 2 (Voting)
« on: June 20, 2012, 02:54:35 PM »
Okay, before anything I'd like to let everyone know. Genbor has replaced Amphi in the competition. Now here are the entries. Please vote on quality, how well they stuck to the description, and originality. Good luck to all.

Genbor - Emo Kid

Monzta - King

Lubbies - Roman Cosplayer

I apologize for th long wait. I've just been real busy. Enough apologizes, let's get this started.

With the previous round, one person has been eliminated.  It was a close call and only lost by one vote; but sorry, Genbor...you have been eliminated with 7 votes. I personally enjoyed your bug catcher paperdoll., good job Genbor!

Now on to the next challenge for our remaining competitors. Amphi, Lubbies, and Monzta here is your next challenge. Each competitor will be given a description of a random character. Your goal is to create a paperdoll the best you can with the description. I will post each description and the competitors name above it. You have til Saturday to have your entry in and polished. Here are the description and who will be doing what.

Amphi
Emo Kid
The emotional poet. These people love the colors black and purple, especially in a striped pattern. Their skin is usually pale, with some black eyeliner. Don't get them confused with a goth, as they stray away from tattoos and piercings. The hair is of no importance, as it can be in any style, base color black with dark colored highlights.

Monzta
King
Wannabe royalty, they wear a gold crown on their head, adorned with jewels. They take the royal look to such an extreme that they even wear the long cape with their purple or red clothes. Kings will usually have the kingly beard, well groomed and pointed in three directions, while the queen's face has a heavy amount of makeup. Royal scepters are not a big requirement, but can be set on the side, also gold with a few jewels. Make it as royal looking as possible.

Lubbies
Roman Cosplayer
This person loves Ancient Rome, and everything about it. They wear armor resembling the Trojans, which is gold with brown trim wear the leather is, and red for the brush on top. They tend to be on the muscular side, especially in the arm and chest areas. They wear symbols on their back, and since this is pokemon, what better than a pokeball symbol. To make themselves look tougher, they grow out their beards in a goatee kind of way.

Thanks to Cortex J. For the descriptions. Good luck to all, enjoy. Voting will start Sunday.

Now is the voting part of the current trial event. Remember you'll be voting on creativeness, as well as, quality. Please take the time to look at the following entries and vote on your favorite entry. I ask all competitors to please not vote for yourself, but I can't stop you and hope you follow the rules. Your also only allowed one vote, so make it worth it. Now for the entries.

Lubbies - Ice Trainer

Genbor - Bug Trainer

Amphi - Fire Trainer

Monzta - Grass Trainer

Good luck to all competitors, and let the best man win; and women. :)

It's finally time to announce the winners of the paperdoll competition. As well as, giving the first trial of the top three winners. Let me explain this first, before I move on to the winners that will be competing in this very competitive trial of events.

After the winners are announced, I will begin the first trial. There will be a total of three trial events. Each event will last one week. The first day I will announce the event each week the event takes place. These events could be anything, and they will all be different in some way. But they all will pertain to pixel art, paperdolling and the base sprite for Pokemon Universe.

After the event is announced, the players will have three days to create what task they are given for that trial event. This gives you the day the event is announced, which will be on Sunday. Til Wednesday to complete your art for the task.

Thursday will begin the day of voting. This will last til Sunday, on this day the polls will be locked and votes will be tallied and one person, with the least amount of votes, will be eliminated. In the case of a tie, I will decide who will move on based on the art. The remaining players will be moved on to the next trial event. Then this process will begin again, until there is one person.

Since there are three events, I will need the top four winners in the Paperdoll Competition, excluding Pokemon Universe's Staff. So now I announce the winners for the Paperdoll Competition. These are the top four, including staff.

4th Place - Genbor
3rd Place - Lubbies
2nd Place - Zatir

1st Place - Yukimenoko

Now for the four winners that will be in the Trial Events.

4th Place - Amphi
3rd Place - Monzta
2nd Place - Genbor

1st Place - Lubbies

The first trial event is as followed:

You will take the male base character sprite, and create a sprite for a trainer. What I mean by this is, you will pick a specific element and make a trainer based on this element. You may use any of the elements in Pokemon. (Grass, Rock, Dragon, ETC.) Be as creative as you want, and try to represent your element in your trainer. You may post your W.I.P. In this thread. Please use the male sprite in the first topic for this competition. Thanks.

After you read this, the competition has begun. Good luck to all.

News & Announcements / Paperdoll Competition
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:59:17 AM »
Alright, most of what is going to be shown has not been seen by the community and some staff. There are a lot of things and developments in the art department, that will be released in small segments. The purpose of this competition is to lower my work load and get the community more involved. I think this should be in announcements, but I'll let the big guys figure that out. Now let me get to it.

I'm going to release the male sprite in this thread, and allow the community to paperdoll them. There are 12 positions, at the moment, that need to be paperdolled. The rules are simple, as followed:

- You will only be allowed one entry. You may substitute an old entry for a new one.

- You may use any palette, but it will be judged on how well it blends, creativity, and uniqueness.

- Try to stick to 3-4 shades of one color. You can use as many colors you want.

- You will have two weeks to create a fully paperdolled male sprite. Then a community poll will began. The top three entries at the end of the one week poll, will then be sent to the staff to make the final decision, and the winner "could possibly" have a position in the art department as a Paperdoll Artist.

If you have any questions, then post here or send me a PM.

Game Features / Trainer Professions
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:35:55 PM »
NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN OFFICAL PROFESSIONS THREAD, SO DON'T THINK THIS WILL EVER BE IN THE GAME.

Trainer Professions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Crafting Professions
Researcher - Pokeball Crafting (PokeBall, GreatBall, NetBall, etc.)
Scientist -  Stat-Giving Item Crafting (Attack X, Iron, Defense X, Protein, etc.)
Doctor - Potion Crafting (Super Potion, Parlyz Heal, Max Ether, etc.)
Artisan - Held Item Crafting (Mircle Seed, Charcoal, etc.) [Non-Evolving Held Items Only]
Chef - Food Crafting (Aprijuice, Pies, etc.)

Collecting Professions
Excavator - Raw Material Collector (Iron Ore, Copper Ore, etc.) [Possibly Evolution Stones]
Herbalist - Natural Herb Material Collector (Flowers/Herbs, etc.)
Farmer - Apricorn/Berry Material Collector (Oran Berries, White Apricorn, etc.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Researcher
This crafting profession is designed to create/craft Pokeballs. All Pokeball's will be craftable, and possibly more types added in the future exclusive to Pokemon Universe. A Researcher would obtain its raw materials for crafting Pokeball's from the Farmers, and Excavators. From the Farmers they'd recieve Apricorns, as most of you know, in the older games you could craft Pokeball's using Apricorns. There will be other types of Apricorns then the ones in the Pokemon Games. A Researcher would also obtain the other parts to craft Pokeball's through Excavators. Reseachers will be able to obtain Ore, or other raw materials, to create things mechinically for the Pokeball's. After all materials, and recipes are obtained, you'll then be able to craft the desired Pokeball.

The Scientist
This crafting profession is designed to create/craft Stat-Giving Items. All Stat Items will be craftable, and possibly more powerful types of that particular Stat-Giving Item, exclusive to Pokemon Universe. A Scientist would ontain its raw materials for crafting such items from Herbalist, and Farmers. From the Herbalist they'd recieve Natural Herbs that trigger the desired effects that Stat-Giving Items deliver. A Scientist would also obtain Berries from Farmers for various effects, based on the item they are creating. After all materials, and recipes are obtained, you'll be able to craft the desired Stat-Giving Item.

The Doctor
This crafting profession is designed to create/craft Potions. All Potions will be craftable, and possibly more variations added in the future, exclusive to Pokemon Universe. A Doctor would obtains its raw materials for crafting such Potions from Excavator, and Farmers. From the Excavator they'd recieve raw materials to craft such containers, to hold the healing substances in. A Doctor would also obtain Berries, that have similar effects as the potion they are creating, from a Farmer. After all materials, and recipes are obtained, you'll be able to craft the desired Potion.

The Artisan
This crafting profession is designed to create/craft Held Items. All Held Items will be craftable, other than evolving type held items, and possibly more added in the future, exclusive to Pokemon Universe. A Artisan would obtain its raw materials for crafting Held Item's from Excavators, and Herbalist. From the Excavators, they'd recieve magical stones, or other materials to give the held item such power. From the Herbalist, they'd recieve raw materials to create powders, or other things to enhance the materials given to them by the Excavators. After all materials and recipes are obtained, you'll be able to craft the desired Held Item.

The Chef
This crafting profession is designed to create/craft Food for healing, status effects, Pokemon mood enhancing type items. All Food items will be craftable, and a lot more added in the future, exclusive to Pokemon Universe. A Chef would obtain its raw materials for crafting Food from Farmers, and Herbalist. From the Farmer they recieve such things as Berries, and other raw materials to create the taste of such food. From Herbalist, they'd recieve the magical attribute that give the Food it's effects. After all materials and recipeds are obtained, you'll be able to craft the desired Food.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am still putting this together, but thought I'd let everyone take a look an try to add their own thing; or question the things that are already up here. This is just a suggestion, and I wanted to see how the community felt about it. A lot of items will need to be made, which isn't a problem in the art department, in order for this to work properly. There will be quest for particular recipes for each Profession, as well as, Profession Levels to obtain particular said recipes. I have not written anything about the Collecting Professions, other than the side notes.

If you have any ideas on professions, preferably, the Collecting Professions. That'd be great. Thanks, and enjoy.

THIS IS NOT AN OFFICAL PROFESSIONS THREAD, SO DON'T THINK THIS WILL EVER BE IN THE GAME.

Development / Help From You!
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:56:57 PM »
This might seem odd, but I like to get my community involved when working on objects/items/tiles/etc. So I am here to simply as for a favor, from you. You wont have to do much, but help me create things for PU. By giving me ideas, criticism, and anything else that might help me.

I'll post a majority of everything I make, in order for you, to supply me with criticism. Whats a game, if the players/community don't like what they see, eh?

What I need help with now, is what kind of outside building styles you'd like to see in the game. Be as descriptive as possible, or post a picture of something you'd like to see turned into a building.

Thanks!

Art Work / Some Art
« on: January 10, 2012, 05:39:20 PM »
This is just a few things I put together for a Pokemon Fan Based game I was working on. It was actually my game, but didn't have many people to help. Since my expertise is Pixel Art/Art, and not programming.

A 800x600 login menu. Not Complete.

A Character Sprite. I'm still trying to make the side views a bit better.

The Character Sprite clothed. Anatomy, and paperdolling are my weakness.

Some tiles. Still working on the grass to dirt transaction there.

Different types of houses, mostly just roof recolors. If you haven't noticed, I'm trying to attempt a different type of view from above.

New Sprite for my Pokemon Fan Game.

Just showing paperdoll and layers of clothes.

This is in no way or form, advertisement. So please, just enjoy the eye candy, and post any criticism you may have. Feel free to voice your opinion.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Hello, just thought I should introduce myself. My names Bryan, I am a 22 young old man. Been messing with Pokemon since 6th grade. I enjoy using forum based RPG's related to Pokemon. A few things about me is that my favorite color is red. I enjoy drawing, and doing pixel art, as well as, anything dealing with Photoshop. My favorite kind of music is, Rap/R&B/Hiphop. Some favorite games from the past, pretty much any Pokemon game. Other than The original Pokemon Stadium. I also like Zelda (SNES and N64), All Final Fantasy's, and any game that deals with adventure and has RPG aspects in it.

Nice to meet you. =D
