Quests & Plots / [Quest] The Shady Thief
« on: March 05, 2010, 03:35:55 AM »
*[Quest: The Shady Thief]*

The player begins the quest when they chance (or hear about it in a rumor or something) upon a small factory. The player can walk in and take a look around, but will be stopped by the owner of the factory who is in quite a rut.

Apparently, the factory is a small, family owned Pokeball manufacturer, and just recently someone stole a very important blueprint to a new Pokeball.

The owner asks the player to help out and then sends them to the ground floor of the factory to 'ask' the employees if they saw anything. The ground floor will have wild Pokemon battles and there are seven trainers in all to battle. Battling 4 of them will get the player the information they need, but battling all seven will get the player an extra reward afterward.

The story: [A couple nights ago, factory workers noticed a shady-looking man standing by the forest's edge watching the building. They have not seen him since the robbery.]

Returning to the owner will complete the first part of the quest.

Reward (Four Trainers): 5 Greatballs

Reward (Seven Trainers): 5 Greatballs, 2,000 [Insert Currency Here]

---

The owner sends the player next to a back room where a security guard is waiting. There is a vault on the far side of the room, opened, where the theft took place. A Mightyena will engage the player if they try to walk by and into the vault, and the guard warns against this, as the Mightyena is very strong (kinda like a mid-boss). The thief took down the Mightyena when they stole the blueprints, and the Mightyena is still angry about it. So the player really has no choice but to fight the Pokemon. When they beat it, the player goes into the vault and looks around, and eventually finds some "white powder" on the ground near one of the shelves, and some "bits of blue paper". The guard, after talking with him again, will direct the player behind the factory and through a thick maze of woods to a cave, where a type of white rock rests. It might be where the Shady Man has been hiding....

After a trip through a forest and a 2 level cave system the player comes across the Shady Man and begins to battle him. When they win the Shady Man drops a scrap of blue paper and reveals that the Mightyena took him by surprise during the theft and tore the paper up. In his haste to leave, the theft dropped the paper scraps on his way to his hideout. Not that he cares anymore, as his only goal was to insure the new Pokeball will never be made. The player then returns to the owner with the news.

Reward: 2,000 [Insert Currency Here], and maybe some player XP.

---

The player speaks to the owner again, who states how overjoyed he is that nobody got the Pokeball blueprints. The player then has to go on a search for the last remaining pieces of the blueprints; one hidden in each of the three locations (the factory (in a sub-basement level), the forest and the cave). Clues and hints will help the player out a bit. When they have all the pieces they will (try) to return to the owner only to find the Shady Man challenging them to one last battle for all the blueprint scraps. The Shady man will be stronger this time around, and have more Pokemon.  So, blahblahblah, the player beats the Shady Man and then returns to the owner who is so happy and crap that his blueprints are safe and sound in several pieces.

Rewards: 5,000 [Currency], Player XP, and a small, strange tin coin

The owner explains that when the new Pokeball is ready, the player can come back and exchange the tin coin for the Pokeball and any number afterward (the first is free, the rest aren't) for testing purposes. And with a final goodbye, the player leaves the factory and the quest is over.

...BUT WAIT(!) THERE'S MOAR!1!

....

And then, because I did a badass job on the floor tiles and conveyor belts, there's THIS.       (Ignore the white rectangle thing.  ::))

*Once Upon A Time - A Creative Game*

---
NOTE:If you can't type complete sentences, spell, use proper grammar, act 1/4 mature, and/or follow the rules set below then do everyone a favor and STFO. Thank you.

---

The About:

-It's a very simple concept. A story will be told in the form of between 1-3 paragraphs (about 5 sentences each) in every post. The story can go any way the next poster wishes, as long as it makes some kind of sense to the previous post. (Character A should not be at a beach in post 3 and then in a forest battling whatever as an old man post 4.)

-The only thing, and this is where the fun comes in, is that at the end of every post there will be 3 random words (selected at the poster's discretion) that the next poster MUST use in their paragraphs. So, for example, I chose the words: flaying, pedantic, and...frog, the next poster has to use those words in their next post (and have them make some kind of sense).

-The three words can't be immature, foul-mouthed, the the names of real people/places, or words that are not recognized in the English language.

-The game rests more on the posters ability to keep a coherent story going (while having fun tripping others up with weird words), and not on characters and the blah-blah-blah that comes with it. If there is already, say 3 'people' in the story then don't disrupt a story by throwing in some random new one. Seriously. The character's behavior will be up to the poster, but they should not really act different in every post. Come on people, if character A is serious and quiet in post 1, don't make them hyperactive and retarded in post 2.

-----I'll start-----

It was a rather hot day in the valley, and the brown haired boy walking the dusty paths couldn't help but sigh in relief as his village came into view over a ridge. The old windmills dotting the area turned slowly, and the boy wiped the sweat off his forehead, aware that the unsettling calmness was a sign of the dust storms to come. The boy looked to the sky and then quickened his pace.

[Words: sullen, stomped, streak]

Kuhns' Art Topic [Pics]

Meaning pictures done by me. I'll place them in the first post as I do them, so yah'll won't have to look for 'em. Yes, I'm that nice.  ::)

I don't want useless posts on here. You can talk about the pictures you like, but I don't want any four non-worded sentences. :| I mean it. You can always make suggestions to another picture you think would look cool. No chances that I'll make it or give you credit for anything though.

Don't steal my artwork. I'll let you use it if you ask though, maybe.

---

I'll start of with this:

Some of you might be able to make the connection between this and this, although my rocks turned out more orange than they did red. (-_-); This is what I pictured the Red Mountain's insides would look like, along with the player's face as they wander around lost. xD Ignore the blandness of the background, as I got quite lazy on some of it.

Player/Trainer: This isn't on the map....

Tools Used: Paper, Pencil, Pen, Colored Pencils, PS for the watermark. :P

---

Scarf blowing for dramatic effect:

This is actually an older one. It's just simply a girl trainer. ;) ...And yes, I realize that her feet are oddly uneven. :P

Tools Used: Paper, Pencil, Pen, Colored Pencils, PS for the watermark.

---

Lol for all the negative white space at the top ::):

I'm sure you can already tell what this is. Bleh, I can't believe I did it all as a vector. I feel like I betrayed my raster roots.  :P

Tools Used: My brain (which is dead now) Patience (which I never really had), and some Vector program ( ::)). +1 for cuteness though.

Dedicated to a certain someone who leiks these kinds of smiley faces.

---

I'd give it a B- at best (:|):

Yes, I know, 'Gasp, Kuhns! What did you do to Jolteon's legs?!' The only real reason I'm putting this up here is because I think I did a badass job on Jolteon's upper body lol. :P

Tools Used: Vector Program, pencil and paper.

---

My new signature should look like:
...But it's all blurry kinda. >.> But I think I might know the cause of that now.... And I can also see where I missed some cleanup. xD *Too lazy to fix right now*

---

Because Spirit told me to. Geez, I never knew Ninetales was such a priss. >.> Done at about...3-something in the morning. Ima go to sleep now.

P.S. I do not like Ninetales' face. That is all.

Quests & Plots / [Quest] Magmortar and the Red Mountain
« on: February 06, 2010, 03:00:16 AM »
This is a questastic idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a couple days...so since I have nothing better to do I decided to show yah'll.

Prerequisite:

Any Pokemon > than level 35. (I was also thinking about a trainer level too, but knowing almost nothing about what the PU Team is doing about that, I'll just leave that part blank. ;)

The quest really begins around an area of mountains, further still, a specific, huge mountain called the Red Mountain for, you guessed it, being a rusted red color.... ...The mountain is also an medium-active volcano.

So anyways, the player starts the quest by running around next to the entrance (made unavailable before the quest by a very dutiful guard) and is then stopped by a dialogue box, saying something like: You hear a loud scream somewhere around you...Watch Out!

Which begins a random encounter with some kind of Fire Pokemon. The Fire Pokemon is not only a tad stronger for its level, but its also enraged, lowering the effectiveness of Water-Type attacks. You can defeat it, run from it, or try to catch it. Catching it will always fail, running from it will lower the chance of the [Quest Item] to drop, and defeating it will cause it to limp away so the player can 'find'...a small steel key.

The key opens the previously closed off Red Mountain Cave entrance, and when the player enters the first chamber they find the 'guard' lying on the ground. Leaving the guard behind, the player then begins their journey through a series of red-rocked caves, gooey lava pools and pissed off Fire Pokemon. At the end of the cave system is one final chamber, an exit on the other side, but the player has one 'last' challenge to face: the bigger-than-average, angry, Magmortar.

....

I lied, the player actually has to either run away from the battle or lose by design. They 'black out' a moment later and wake up safe outside the cave. There are several scruffy looking people around the cave entrance, all with water type Pokemon. When the player wakes up, all of the guards just grunt and point towards the village. This starts the bulk of the MRM Quest.

Pahoen is the name of the town. I'm not going to reveal all of the history, that would ruin the mystery. But I will tell some important things interesting to the story in paragraph format below.

Pahoen: Is a forgotten little village hidden in the mass of the Red Mountain. History says the town was settled several hundred years after a large volcanic explosion blew out a crater sized hole in the back side. (That explains the trees, and the water and the plants, and the humans living there. :P) The town is near one of the most inactive parts of the volcano, and as such is safe from any...explosions that might happen.

But why would people settle in such a town?

Two words: Fire Stones. The mountain is rich with minerals, irons, and Pokemon, but none more so then Fire Stones. In fact the town use to be a prime tourist location too, drawing people and trainers alike from the farthest sides of the lands. All things come with a price though.... The rich minerals and the Fire Stones especially drew the attention of the Dark Drilling Mining Company. They came with promises and the townspeople agreed. Soon the mines that once filled with pickaxes and other Pokemon-friendly tools were replaced with high powered thermal drills and explosives. The mines grew without direction, burrowing further and further into the Red Mountain...and then six years after the DDMC came, something strange happened. Something that caused the tourists and trainers, the DDMC and the (non-Fire Pokemon) to flee. And since then, Paheon has lay forgotten and lost, scarred in the flames of the angry Fire Pokemon who dwell deep in the mountain....

Until the player comes along to get in the way save the day.

I'm not going to go further into the smaller quest arcs only in that they include: rescues, exploration, investigation, people skills, and...other stuff. (If you guys want to ask about any of these I guess I can go into more detail, but this post is getting pretty long right now.)

Oh yeah, if the player is carrying a Fire Pokemon, they might as well send it somewhere else. Until the player finishes the quest, Fire Pokemon wont listen, and might even run away.

The player will face off against that Magmortar again, but they'll be equip with the tools (and the key to the mystery) strong enough to take it down. The player will then have the access to a town others who haven't played the quest wont, a unique place to look for Fire Pokemon, and discounts of Fire Stones in the local market.  ::)

Expand or question, tell me what yah'll think. Or do you want to hear more about the in-between?

Other Entertainment / Movies that blew you away
« on: January 31, 2010, 02:18:03 AM »
Just one (at a time) and tell us why...without revealing too much to someone who might go and see it.

A recent movie that blew me away was: The Book of Eli. I tried to guess it before it happened but that damn movie still beat me up and made me like it. :P I'll probably go see this again soon.

Why use only bikes?

It'd be a cool feature if we could use:

-Skateboards
-Scooters
-Skates

A mess of players  riding around on bikes is no fun at all, so why not mix things up with some other means of ground transportation? It'll also add another nice layer of customization to the game.

Mr_Dark: UPDATE
This topic can be used to discuss all kinds of transportation now.

Trainers Lounge / So you wanna get on the Pre-Beta 2.0 List

*/So you wanna get on the Pre-Beta 2.0 List\*
[~A Guide~]
---

Time's counting down fellow PU members, and that list for the Pre-Beta isn't going to stay open forever. If you've already got your slot then turn away, this guide isn't for you. However, if you're one of the tens of new members clamoring to get your rightful place on that Pre-Beta List, then you need to park your butt right there and listen up! This guide's for you.

---

[~Important Things To Remember~]

(o) Nobody on this site really cares that you played Pokemon Crater, Pokemon World Online, or any other Pokemon MMO. Really. I don't care, the PU Team doesn't care, nobody cares. So don't mention it, unless you are on a forum designed to talk about those sites.

(o) This and this should be read before anything else. Mr_Dark did not just put them up for giggles chuckles.
No excuses either, as they'll be above every thread on the forum.  ::)

(o) There was a great invention created some time ago called a Search Bar. Use is, and your chances of getting one of the Pre-Beta invites increases, but we'll get into that later.

---

[~The Dos and Don'ts~]

Your posts on the forum can either make you or break you. I'm going to go through some tips, rules, and even examples to help show you what's going to either get you the banhammer, or a spot on that list you've been hearing so much about.

[The Do's]

1) Be active but not stupid. If you just clicked on a topic with, say, five or six pages worth of replies already, it would be a good thing to go back and read not only the first post, but also the ones that come after it. This way, you don't look like a moron sprouting off things that have already been asks, picked apart, and/or verified.

2) Type correctly. It's a sad thing when second-language English speakers can type better than first-language ones. No this isn't school, no this isn't a letter to your grandmother, but trust me when I say that if you put in the effort to type using the basic rules of grammar in every one of your posts, you come off sounding much more mature. And maturity, I might add, is something the PU Team is looking for. ;)

3) Don't be afraid to speak your (marginally intelligent) thoughts. If someone has an idea you don't like, pick it apart (without insulting the poster). If someone asks for help on expanding their idea, don't be afraid too. Insight is something the PU Team is looking for. If you agree with everything a poster says/thinks up/suggests, then it sways towards the idea that you're just posting to post, or build a reputation of being a 'nice person.'
Quote
Remember, a closed pre-beta is not just a ticket to have fun, we are looking for serious feedback and testing.

4) It's not just in the Pokemon Discussion you can show your worth. There are a number of topics in other sections that give way to the opportunity of building that chance of being put on the list. Nobody said you have to look in the PU threads specifically to post. Branch out a bit. ;)

[Example]+

Topic: "I think we should be able to see the Pokemon before we battle them."

Response: "I don't like that idea. The game screen might lag more and it'll cause a lot of cluttering onscreen. Plus the number of sprites the PU Team would have to make."

---

[The Don'ts]

1) Beg. Nothing will get you farther from that list then begging. In fact, given the times you try to pull this kind of crap, you might find yourself banned from the game entirely.

2) Ask stupid questions. Yes, I said it. There is such a thing. Questions such as: "Is this going to be a multiplayer game," or "Are there going to be Pokemon in this game," or even, "can i plz be on teh list."

3) Reposting topics. This goes back to the Search Bar feature. The Team wants to finish working on the game/have a life, not have to deal with deleting your posts. You can always just go reply to posts of the subject that have already been made. You do not need to have discovered the 'bestest Pokemon idea evar' to get on the list. Trust me. Calm down, the Beta isn't for another couple months. You have (some) time.

4) Don't keep posting on a topic already deemed a repost of something else. If the admins haven't already locked/deleted it for God knows what reason, don't keep bumping it. Agreeing with a lazy post is just as bad as posting it in the first place. It's a waste of your time, and will not get you on the list.

[Example]-

Topic: "i thnk id b colz 2 see the pokemon befor we batlet them id be sewper uniqe an not lyke pokemon crter"

Response: "omg thts a good idea  ;D ;D ;D :D ;) :D 8) :) :D ;D"

...That reminds me. The overly excessive use of smileys in the posts are a good way to NOT get on the list.

---

[~Ending~]

At the end of the post, the only thing keeping you off that list is yourself. Follow the rules set in this guide and you'll be on that list before you know it.

I'd like to point out that I am not on the PU Team, nor did I consult them before making this guide. I am, however, already on the list, and have a general idea of what they are desperately looking for.

I hope you enjoyed this guide and I look forward to beating seeing you all in the Pre-Beta.

Other Entertainment / Seriously Overrated Stuff
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:58:23 AM »
Why are all the topic I make about complaining. >_>;

Because it's fun.

Have something you think is overrated? Are you totally tired of it being shoved in your face every time you go out? Then complain/debate about it here. Can be movies, shows, bands, even books.

Please state you case. No one sentence posts.

I'll give you something overrated:

Avatar. One of the biggest wastes of my money. Ever. Poor storyline, poor development, generic characters....

"But OMG teh graffics wer amuzing!1!1one!"

So? That only accounts to about....4% of a story. I hope that movie is set on fire and then pushed off a cliff into a pit of *movie-eating Pikachus.

Other Games / Sandbox Discussion
« on: January 26, 2010, 04:24:44 PM »
And no, I don't mean an actual sandbox.

I mean free roam games like: Assassin's Creed, the Elder Scrolls, (the) Fallouts, Infamous, Prototype, etc....

What was your favorite moment or things to do on them?...Or, maybe something you even hated about one?

One of my favorite moments was on...a game I can't quite remember the title for (:P). I came across a village full of people who were being terrorized by like, trolls or something--very nasty. They were like: "No, don't go and try to kill them, we'll die! (the trolls will come and kill us)" And I was like: "Whatever. I'll save you >:B" So, I go, kill the King Troll (or whatever it was) and then go back to the town, only to find...trolls killing everyone.

Me: Rly?

And then I killed the trolls and raided the town, making a huge sum of gold in the process.

The End.

Note:Unless you're being sarcastic about something you did related to the topic, I don't want chatspeak or anything like it here. If you can't type better than a four year old, then don't post.

Games / Things about the Pokemon Games you hated
« on: January 13, 2010, 06:34:23 AM »
We all have some gripes about the games. The rival's type advantage, the ugly [insert new Pokemon here], the lack of luster in the NPC's dialogue....

What did yah'll hate about the games? (Explain why if possible)

-

I hated (in the earlier) games the fact that one couldn't re-battled a trainer. Battling wild Pokemon didn't get me anything other then exp. Well, unless you had a Meowth. >.> And even then it wasn't as much as a trained Pokemon. :(

Ideas & Suggestions / Titles (Idea)
« on: January 09, 2010, 03:18:39 AM »
How about a list of Titles that'll go over/under the player's name for reaching certain criteria? Of course, only one would be available to use at a time.

[Title] Player's Name, or Player's Name [the Title]

Like:

Explorer: For Exploring X number of caves, forests, towns, ect.

Traveler: For taking X (something large) number of steps.

Pokemon Master: Self-explanatory

Breeder: Having X amount of eggs hatch from owned Pokemon. (This is rolling with the Daycare idea)

Pro Trainer: Completing X number of battles without losing once.

Pokemon Expert: Seen over X amount of Pokemon.

Collector: Caught over X amount of Pokemon.

Coordinator: Won X amount of Pokemon Contests. (Rolling with the Pokemon Contests Idea)

Eevee[Insert Pokemon] Maniac: Caught X number of Y Pokemon.

Socialite: Have X number of friends.

Etc.

Or have a group that you can only get after completing certain quests. The player could receive the Title from the quest giver, or get a message from Mom/Professor/Whatever about it.

12
Ideas & Suggestions / Quest Starters(Idea)
« on: January 05, 2010, 11:46:13 AM »
Okay, last one for a while, I swear. xD

(I'll just use an example to get my idea across):

So, your walking around and--in the typical fashion--walk into some tall grass. The screen freaks out and you get into a fight with...an Eevee. Nothing different--except for all the Eevee fanatics out there--it wont let you catch it. It's also odd because you know you're in an area that isn't very Eevee friendly. You eventually knock it unconscious (it was harder to beat than other Pokemon of that level) and then you get a message. The Eevee dropped something: a collar with a tag on it:

"[Insert Name Here]
 [Insert city/Town/Route Here]
 [Insert Owner's Name Here]"

This starts the Quest portion. You can deny the quest and leave the Eevee where it is/let it limp off, or you can--if you have the space--add it to your party and find its owner. The usual blah, blah, blah happens, and then you get your reward.

Reminder: The above was just an example, but the premises stands. Quest starters from dropped items?

13
Ideas & Suggestions / Jackpot (Idea)
« on: January 05, 2010, 10:08:06 AM »
(Tell me if this has already been discussed.)

So I was on Gaia a website the other day and bought some fake Lotto tickets. :|

Yes I said it.

There have been lotteries in the Pokemon games in the past, but unless you traded an insane amount, or checked back everyday, it was near impossible to ever win. :P

Can you see where this is going yet? I'll assume you have.

Having a 'Poke'Lotto' might help the in-game economy as well, but if say...the "pot" starts at 1000, and a ticket is 100, the pot would increase by half of what the ticket cost was. :P Does that make sense? Some system would decide a winner, and the pot would reset the next week--or whatever.

14
Quests & Plots / Hunting (Idea)
« on: January 05, 2010, 04:52:18 AM »
I'm unsure if anyone has suggested this, but it's been bouncing around in my head for quite some time now.

As any Pokemon Trainer would know, being a Pokemon Trainer is actually a bit hard...financially. Maybe I was just doing it wrong, but more often then not, I was selling my just-found-this-in-a-Pokeball-on-the-ground items for some spare change. This led to the idea of a series of (maybe) repeatable quests.

Everyone's who played any kind of MMORPG has run into those kinds of quests that involve going out and killing so-and-so number of monsters for so-and-so rewards. This could be applied to PU in a way where Trainers could, instead of killing, catch a certain number of Pokemon for rewards-cough-mostly money. xD

Expanding on this idea, the 'quests' could differ in the sex, level, amount, and location (of the Pokemon). Bonuses could be awarded based on special requirements met, such as using a specific Pokeball, catching the Pokemon without lowering its health/stats, or even completing the quest in a set amount of time. They could also differ in terms of the quest-giver, meaning that, based on the Trainer's...choice, they could help an elderly couple catch some Pokemon for their Breeding Center, or take a 'contract' with some of the more shady characters that inhabit the PU. ;P
