Other Games / Razor: Salvation
« on: May 30, 2012, 03:10:33 pm »
For those of you who don't know/haven't noticed, Level5Pidgey has not been around lately. That is because he went and got himself a job (what a chump). Luckily for everyone, that job involves making games! Games like Razor: Salvation! It only came out the other day and, no kidding, it is the best game I have on my iPod (granted, I don't have too many games, but it's still awesome). Anyways, it's a cool game and everyone should play it (only if you want to though).

Link is below for anyone who wants to check it out. It's only for iOS devices at the moment but I think they're working on an Android version too.

General Chat / Global Game Jam 2012
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:21:26 am »
For those of you that don't know, Global Game Jam was on again this weekend (and probably still is for some jam sites). It's basically an event where teams from all around the world make games in 48 hours. Everybody is given the same theme at 5pm local time on Friday and then spends the rest of the weekend making the game. Visit http://globalgamejam.org/ for more info.

So anyways, I participated for the first time this year, and I had an amazing time. I met lots of new people and saw some amazing games created.

My game can be downloaded here, http://globalgamejam.org/2012/toob-racer and I'm working on getting a file up that will just contain the game itself, with no source code. Also, the game only runs on windows, so if you're using a Mac or Linux, you won't be able to play it.

If you want to check out some other games http://globalgamejam.org/sites/2012/game-jam-wollongong-2012 is a list of all the games created at my site. Or you can go to http://globalgamejam.org/games to see all the games made for the GGJ2012.

Did anybody else participate? If so, I'd love to check out your games.

EDIT: A game only download link is up on the page.

Balance Server Testing / Server Update
« on: November 05, 2011, 02:41:18 pm »
Okay, the server has been updated with some new additions. If you create a team that uses pokemon that aren't on the allowed pokemon list, you will be placed in the Banned tier. This tier will stop you from challenging anyone and stop people from challenging you. The only other tier is the Balance tier, which you should default to if your team is legal. If you aren't put straight in there, just select it from the tier list.

Balance Server Testing / New Battlers Guide
« on: November 03, 2011, 10:49:03 am »
Okay, it's been less than a day since the Balance Server started up, and I've been seeing an influx of people who have never used Pokemon Online, and likely never battled on a simulator before. So I'm making this thread to help new people avoid the mistakes I've been seeing so far.

- Use Pokemon on the Available Pokemon list. http://pokemon-universe.com/index.php/topic,3782.0.html

- This is kind of related to the first point, but don't use an unevolved version of a pokemon on the list, unless it is on the list too. So you can use electabuzz, as he is on the list, but don't go around using a haunter, or you will be putting yourself at a disadvantage.

- Make sure you know what your pokemon's items, abilities and moves do.

- If you're going to put two moves of the same elemental and attacking type on a pokemon, Ice Beam and Blizzard, for example, think very carefully about the reasoning behind this, as it's almost always better to have a move of another type.

If you have any more tips, feel free to post them below.

Balance Server Testing / FAQ Thread.
« on: November 02, 2011, 12:36:34 pm »
Got a question about the balance server? Ask it here and the Balance Team will get around to answering it.

If you know the answer to a question, feel free to answer it. However, apart from that, please refrain from discussion in this thread.

Here are some of the more commonly asked questions.

Q: Why are you balancing Pokemon?
A: Because currently many fully evolved pokemon never get any use in competitive battles. We feel that every pokemon should be useable in battle, so you can use your favourite pokemon, and still stand a chance of winning.

Q: When is the game coming out?
A: In December 2011 we will be releasing a beta. Seriously, check the main page the next time you ask this question.

Q: Why did you nerf XXX, I think that it was perfectly balanced?
A: Because we felt that it was not, in fact, balanced. If you want to explain in further detail why it was perfectly balanced, make a topic.

Q: When will you balance XXX?
A: When we get to it. We have currently balanced many pokemon that feature prominently in the current metagame and are now working on the lesser used pokemon.

Balance Server Testing / READ: Balance Forum Info
« on: November 02, 2011, 12:30:29 pm »
Welcome to the Balance Server Testing Forum!

I'm sure you have a bunch of questions, but before you ask them make sure you check the other stickied topics. If you can't find what you're looking for, check the FAQ thread. Which can be found http://pokemon-universe.com/index.php/topic,3803.0.html.

Feel free to talk about anything to do with the balance server on this forum. Specific pokemon, team builds, abilities. However, please don't make topics asking for battles.

Follow these guidelines and nobody will get stabbed in the face.

Happy Battling!

Example Set
Choice Banded @ Choice Band
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Truant, Adamant
- Return
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Pursuit

Explanation of Set
This Slaking is a powerhouse. Truant however, mitigates this as attacking once every two turns significantly decreases the damage he can do. This makes him better used as a revenge killer, as he can punish a switch in, or the pokemon switching out with pursuit. Just look out for pokemon with protect, as they'll stall you forever.
