Nice changes!!

Keep up the effort and writing! The more you write (and read!) the better you'll be, and who knows, one day you may be writing novels or graphic novels, or even stories for games and anime!

As a writer and an editor, I am hoping to help you out here a little!

You are rushing your story entirely too much, shortening things into sentences that should be paragraphs, if not even longer... For example:

Chapter 2
"Dragonair?" An extremely familiar Dragonair came up to me and started licking my face, then I realized that this was my Dratini.

Instead of one sentence, play the words out over a few... Instead of "An extremely familiar Dragonair", wouldn't He at first be scared of where he was, where his Dratini was, and what the Doctor was talking about? After the initial reaction, perhaps the Dragonair would peek out from a corner, and would look somewhat familiar... Maybe recognize the eyes, or the bearing...

A good story is a JOURNEY to somewhere, people reading WANT to be on that journey, so let them be on it a little longer, give them more of a pathway to walk, they (we) will be glad of it, and it'll make your writing better.

Dratini, you evolved! I tried to say, but my voice was too hoarse and it just came out as a croak.
"Oh, you must be thirsty, and confused! Here drink this and I'll tell you more." He handed me a water bottle and then began "So, the police came after someone came telling about a person that had frightened a kid into battling him and warned the kid that if he won, the kid would have to give the man all of the kid's Pokemon. They came just in time to see the man's Houndour attacking you, but suddenly you were flown into a tree, at that same time the Houndour, and his trainer had collapsed and fallen into a coma, unfortunately you did too. Since then we have been having trouble stabilizing the other man's heartbeat and then after five years, or now, your heart had stopped beating for a second. What's extremely odd is that your 'friend' appears to be getting older by the nights and he looks like an old geezer even though he's only twenty-seventh. Oh, and a couple of things that are off topic, our Pokemon physicist has been exercising your Dratini daily, and recently she evolved into a Dragonair, I would also like to tell you that she has learned quite a large amount of new moves. The other off topic news for you is that this is your fifteenth birthday, happy birthday!" He tried to say in a cheery mood. "Any questions?"
"Just one, can I see the man that I was battling?"

That was waaaaayy too much information to drop in such a short amount of reading space! And there's no real reaction from the main character... Even if he's in "shock" by all the news, there'd still be something to say.. perhaps he blinks slowly taking all the information in.

Try to write things with as much reality as possible, even really bad Doctors are trained to give bad news in better ways than that, so keep that in mind too!

You'll do well, just keep writing and listening to input from others, even if it isn't praise it can boost your story telling abilities, sometimes even more than good words!

Take care and keep on trying!

A side note to all of this, your personal experiences with people of certain namesakes will also color your preconceived notions of how a person will be. For instance, I haven't known a single woman or girl named Sabrina that wasn't a pompous, arrogant and impossibly selfish human being... While still somehow being very pretty or attractive to a lot of people.

lol idk about this theres a guy named james i know but hes repulsive >.>

This probably fits under the "exception to every rule" rule... Because James is a "strong male name" and is also extremely popular in European and American society... Because of it's intense popularity, you will find more exceptions... My name is Matthew, which is Hebrew for "Gift of God" which I thought was rather hilarious. I think it's a failure in translation, as it should probably be "Possesses the gift of God" which would make more sense, as the name is contributed in it's popularity and derives its meaning from the Apostle by the same name...

I digress... I don't much like my name, and I don't know what image (or reference you already have) for a "Matthew" you have, but I likely can't say I match most, if any of them... And since Matthew has been one of the most popular names (at least in the States) for the last century or more, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there are far more Matthews that don't quite fit the "standard".

Can you tell I'm a writer.... Bah, I drone on far too much.

Well, Yeah C:, but I want to be married before I have sex*Is a virgin*=w=, and married for a while before I have my own kids, If I don't get married then... means no kids :C unless I adopt or use a surrogate =w=, but I know I'll get married some day, I'm not worried about it, just want to get my life together and all before I do anything, unless it changes, never know what'll happen C: Lql, Oh my... Your baby!!!! So adorable! C: reminds me of my brother when he was a baby! <3
PS: Roloc needs to marry me Irl, ._. He's soooooooo handsome <3 =w= Lql x)
PPS: Idk why I posted almost all of that ._.

Thank you, though I doubt I can really take credit for his appearance as a crazy cute munchkin. I'm hoping to scan a few of my childhood photos, so I can put them side-by-side with his, though I already know he's nearly a mini-me at this point. He will be much taller than I am, which is good. I'm only 5'9", and have always felt inadequate.

Don't give up, you'll get there. There is an infinite amount of possibilities for you, and many roads you can tread upon, I wish you luck in all things, but especially in beginning and tending to a family. There is nothing at all that compares to waking up and seeing your child's smile and eyes gleaming... My heart swells at the thought. =)

I suppose I sound a bit pretentious, or even just plain odd, but I've been reading too much lately and the style of speech and thought seems to have leaked into me quite heavily, so my apologies... People don't talk like that anymore, it's truly a shame.

JerryEDIT: Looks better :P

Oh, it's totally true.

There are names, once popular, that have fallen very far out of favor... Proof?

Create an image in your mind of a woman named Bertha.

She is probably not very tall, less than "attractive" and likely large...  (Note, I place "" over Attractive because the word and the meaning are subjective to the reader. There are far too many people with varying tastes to have an actual defined, and static meaning to the term, so if you are attracted to shorter, plump women, then please do not be offended.)

And for the girls/women out there, create an image in your mind of a man named Bruno.

He probably is tall, but wide, features much like a brawling bar patron, crooked nose, maybe a few scars.

It is truly normal, and you shouldn't feel judgmental (I always thought that was spelled with an e but google says no.) or mean.... It is simply how things have forced us to evolve and warp our way of thinking. There are those who break through the stigma and prejudice attached to their name, and many that look past a name... But all things considered, it is simply human nature to apply vast meaning to a name, including image.

A side note, most people fulfill the "destiny" of their name, it is mostly due to parents choosing names that are either connected through family ties, or project something they wish their child to become, mostly based on their heritage and place of origin...

Enough rambling for me... I chose my son's name based on meaning, and initials... Most families simply choose something popular or related through family, for instance, naming one's son after a grandfather.

Of course, we'd like to think ourselves above such seemingly petty antics when choosing a mate, but alas, we are victims to our human nature again!

=)

OMFG!!! I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE BABIES!!!<3 your baby is soooooooooooo cute!!! I can't believe I didn't see this thread earlier! D: I have 3 kids and 1 on the way C:(not my real kids, my little brother, sister, niece and nephew on the way) I raised them from birth =w= I wish I had my own though...:C but when I'm around 25 years old x) I has no monies to raise a baby and I'm not quite ready to have so many responsabilities x). Omfg! sooooooo cute!!! Congratulations on the beautiful baby boy<3 =w=

LOL! Thank you a ton! He's amazing!

I can relate to you, I raised my little sister for the most part (not the infant/baby stuff, but from toddler on) and  have had plenty of experience with other relatives! I can also totally relate to feeling like it's not the right time. I tried to wait until I was in better monetary standing, but as time wore on and we got closer to the point of no return (her getting close to her 40's) and so forth... Well, I told her we'd try.

It took over 3 years, but we got an amazingly cute and happy and super healthy baby boy, so I'm not angry about it.

I think you should listen to your head for as long as it's louder than your heart. If your heart ever gets to the point where you hear nothing else, well... Then you'll have little choice anyways! haha.

I think you'll get it right =)

When you hear stuff like this, you forget every bad ass things... Sorry, I wasn't online to tell you, so Congratz'!  ;)

Thanks! and you're right... I have a miserable job right now, which increases my physical pain (already at a prescription taking level) even farther...

And I still have something to look forward to, every night and day. This little monkey of mine is so happy and smiling and it's really infectious... It's hard to worry or think about the pain when he's sitting there baby-babbling to me with a huge grin!

I just wish I didn't have to spend so much time away from the house =(

Hopefully I'll get back into writing, finish my novel and actually sell it. Who knows!

Lol, thanks. I took him with me to work the other day to say hi to some of the girls there. (One recently found she was pregnant and really wanted to see him) And had some fun there... He's so damned big that most of them were shocked.

He's almost 14 pounds, hard to check without an accurate scale.

I added just a few newer ones... The one with the Elephant on the onesie is brand new, took it just now.

On a side note - he has his mother's hair. I was born blond, turned red, then light brown, not dark brown with white sprinkled throughout... He looks pretty much just like me, as a baby and now, except he's much more cute than me.

Will be posting pics soon, have to figure it out where to put them up and crop them and all...

I'm sure I can put them on photobucket or some other such site, I haven't ever used one before, but I'll manage =p

@Bryan - Keep the faith... We'd been trying for 3 years, and had pretty much given up, but it figured itself out... at the least opportune time, I might add. (Lost my store due to the economy, was jobless for a long while) But it'll work out!

@Ponge - the best part of breast feeding a baby is that I don't have to! She wakes up, feeds him in the bed/room and then goes back to sleep. I just stay asleep unless he's screaming his head off which is rare, the second best part of breast feeding a baby is that we save a HUGE amount of money... Formula is horribly expensive and so very inferior to breast milk that I just don't get why people prefer it. I know it's necessary sometimes, but not as often as the majority of people think...

Ideas & Suggestions / Re: Choosing a character?
« on: May 16, 2012, 06:25:39 PM »
I think the point here is not specifically the "character sets" that are the focus of the post, but rather the fact that there are "alternate story-lines"  to go with them...

I don't think that will work with a Customized Character driven game, and the base story-line will be set in an already unique manner... Unique from the console games.

However, it might be possible and not require a crap-ton of extra, unnecessary, work to design some alternate stories or side stories for people who wish to customize their teams in specific ways... That could work, but again, that would still require some unintended work...

I've been writing RP story-lines for games (online and otherwise) for 13 years now, and the possibilities are enticing and inspiring. Yet I still think that the game should be left as pure as possible for now - perhaps save these things for later updates, to give people something new to work through and for, once they have already enjoyed the standard stories for a while...

I may be wrong, but I do believe this was a valid idea and I think that the examples given to ground the idea in something everyone could relate to seems to have overshadowed the idea here!

I know I haven't been around for a while, but I figured I'd chime in!
