The rules of double-posting are repealed, but your computer becomes enraged at this and coats your keyboard with poison.
You can repeat the phrase, but it turns out to be the activation code for a nuclear bomb implanted in your brain.

I wish that people would stop becoming an heroes (People who everyone hates and who kills themselves because everyone hates them).

Fan Fiction & Writing / Stefan's rare-hunt
« on: April 02, 2010, 11:46:42 PM »
I got bored, so I decided to try my hand at roleplaying. The stars of this story - which I will continue if people like it - are Stefan Bashkir, a rare pokemon hunter, and his partner Sunset, a Lucario. Some of you might have seen my quest idea, and this is, in fact, the very same Stefan, though in the past, a little before he became famous. So without further ado, my story.

In the deep, dark, unforgiving forest called Tiny Woods, a caterpie was cacooning itself in preperation for evolution. Approximately halfway through its covering itself with web, the caterpie was stamped into the ground by a Grovyle moving lightning-fast through the woods. Dazed, but unharmed alive, the caterpie pulled itself out of the hole it had made in the ground, only to be kicked an easy eight feet away by a man dressed like Van Helsing pursuing the Grovyle.

Stefan cursed under his breath. That Grovyle was a touch faster than him, and the mask over his mouth was beginning to make simple breathing a challenge; his clothing was hardly suited for dodging through a forest like this. He reached a hand to his belt, and grabbed a throwing knife out of it. He lifted it by the blade, took aim, and threw- and the knife whizzed past the grovyle's head.
This, however, was intentional. The knife dug a few inches into a tree, and a failing branch, shaken by the impact, gave in and fell- catching the grovyle by the foot. The branch did not stop the Grovyle, but it did trip it up, making it stumble and slam headfirst into a tree. The grovyle fell backwards, unconscious.
Irritaded, Stefan called out, "Gee wiz, thanks for the help, Sunset. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule of watching paint dry to give me a hand with this chase."
the leaves of a nearby tree rustled, and a Lucario landed softly on the ground in front of him.
"You did fine on your own, didn't you?" Sunset rolled out his shoulder nonchalantly.
"Oh, yes, I did fine. If you count ten minutes of chasing a single pokemon - which, mind you, is twice as agile and slightly faster than I am - through an unfamiliar forest while it hurtles through a deathtrap made of wood at fifty miles an hour as 'doing fine'."
"Meh. It hardly matters. We can still get out, and nothing else was affected in the forest, so what's the problem?"
Stefan still appeared irritated, though he said nothing more. Instead, he tossed a Pokeball at the grovyle, which put up very little resistance due to its recent head injury.

Later, at a pokemon center, Stefan passed the time waiting for his Grovyle to recover by reading the newspaper to see what his next target would be. Psyduck sighted near littleroot? He has twenty of them from his first year of being a trainer. Rattas loose in oldale? Don't make me laugh, you can't walk ten feet without stepping on one of them. Ralts in kanto? that caught his eye. Why would that appear in a Hoenn newspaper? He read more of the article. Apparently this particular ralts has a habit of attacking everything it sees. Just about the exact opposite of normal behavior. The species might not be rare, but that would certainly be a one-of-a-kind catch. Hell, it might even be a male. Gallades were one of those species that Stefan never could get a hold of.
Sunset looked up at him. "I know that look. You found our next target?"
Stefan spun a pokeball on the tip of his finger, one of his alternatives to actually twiddling his thumbs. "Oh, I found are target all right. Before that, though, we have to enter a tournament of some sort."
"And why is that?"
"Because I'm broke."

Quick note here: If anyone was planning on telling me that Sunset is a pokemon and shouldn't be able to talk, he's a Lucario. Lucario, Mewtwo, and Lugia can talk, according to the anime movies.

Alrighty, I have a few ideas, also something regarding the FLY HM.
While flyshould have the cooldown, it, like all the other transportation, should have a stamina BAR, meaning that depending on the size and level of the pokemon, it should be able to fly farther, and more often (i.e. a level one hunded Charizard could take you around the world and back and be ready to fly again in like two minutes, while a level five pidgey would takke ten minutes of recharge to takeyou two cities away).

I also think that the mechancal pokemon or anything mechanical should have a seperate stamina bar from everything else, because it doesn't exaust a person to sit on a robot for half an hour.

and here's another idea: A carriage pulled by rapidash =D.

Also, some vehicles could have events attached to them, like with my carriage idea, there could be some collesium-like building where people had fights while on a carriage.

Ideas & Suggestions / Re: Money Trading
« on: April 02, 2010, 06:51:22 PM »
For the trading system, you could do it like this:
The pokemon/item is shown on a menu of things the other player is trading.
If you roll your mouse over the pokemon/item, a ballon pops up, showing the price for it that is reccomeded by staff.
Both players have to press an 'accept trade' button before the trade is... accepted.

This way, it is practically impossible for anyone who is not brain-dead to get scammed.

Darkstar64 dies after fighting off a horde of Spongecake Warriors, only to be flattened by the mighty Pounding-Cake.
He is revived ten and one half seconds later by a man who dropped a chesnut covered in chocolate down his throat (because everyone knows chocolate chesnuts have mystical healing powers).

I have one thing to say. Nom. Now I have a retort.
1: Yeah... evil overlord oopsies, I read the guidelines seconds after posting the idea.
2: Why thank you.
3: All two of the places!? Lol, nice to see someone else knows about ol' AE.
btw - Nuuu... that guy was dressed in blue, and lacked the epic awesomeness that is Van Helsing. I get how you made the connection, though.

Quests & Plots / Stefan: The man. The Myth. The Legend.
« on: April 02, 2010, 04:20:30 AM »
Admittably, I just used my own name and a T-shirt to name the quest, but the name is unimportant. Since I don't think it really matters as of right now what the name of the places or characters are, I'll just use names of people I know from elsewhere, so Ignore them unless you actually think they're fitting for the role.
You walk into some random inn at a more popular town (say, the town is called falconreach) and you notice notice a man with a wide-rimmed hat covering half his face, and generally just dressed like Van Helsing sitting alone, not far away from anyone else, but alone, aside from a Lucario sitting directly across from him. As a video game character, you decide its in your best interest to talk to him. So, you waltz on over to him and press the interact button. He says:
"My name is Stefan Bashkir, I am a world-renowned rare pokemon hunter. Recently I caugh scent of a rumor that two dragonlike pokemon had been sighted. I came here to find out what I can about them. ..... What don't I just ask them? Because, trainer, the only efficent way to learn what people know about rumors is to listen to them talk to themselves while intoxicated. ... ... ... My blue friend over there? His name is Sunset. I found him stuck between a rock and a hard place as a little Riolu in a cave not too far from- Shh. I hear something."
You tune in and here someone mumble about a two dragons - red and blue - seen off the coast of sharpedo bluff. When the man starts talking about his good-for-nothing brother, you turn back to Stefan.
"I assume you know where I am going? Seeing as you already know as much as I do, you can come with me. We'll split the bounty, seeing as there are two of these dragons. I'm sure right now you're thinking that you can just forget me and go there yourself, takin both of them for yourself. There is one problem with that, though. You don't know where sharpedo bluff is, do you?"
Surprised, you open your map to find that there is, in fact, no sharpedo bluff marked on it.
Now, you are presented with the option of choosing to accept the quest or not. Choosing no makes Stefan wait there patiently for you to train your pokemon, and choosing yes brings you to a scene with a Garydos swimmig across the water with you and Stefan in tow. Stefan passes the time by telling stories of the past (You would select these stories from a list, and the list would also contain 'rest until sharpedo bluff', which would bring you to the destination): how he managed to snake his way through a frozen temple to nab a regi ice, when he met Jirachi, but praise be, he didn't have a wish stone on him, and anything else he happened to have done in his time.

At sharpedo bluff, you are presented with the ancient nemesis of mankind: a fork in the road. Stefan will be going left, and Sunset right. You can follow either of them, each with their own benifits. Going with Stefan halves the chance of encountering pokemon besides your target and lets you see his marvelous collection of rares as he fights alongside you in double battles, but also makes it impossible for you to catch pokemon besides your target, as Stefan will want them or himself. Going with Sunset allows youto catch the pokemon you see along the way, and the battles toll on your pokemon less, because Sunset is a stronger pokemon than the rest of Stefan's team. However, the battles will come twice as often (Which amounts to about reguar), and you can't choose to flee from them because of the inherent pride of Lucarios.
Either way, you end at the same point, meeting up with whoever you hadn't accompanied. you look ahead and see two giant pedestals. Stefan tells you,
"This is where we meet them. I will not help you in your fight, and the pokemon is yours to keep should you catch it. Choose whom you wish to fight, trainer."
So, you look at the pedestals. One of them reads "Courage, valor, and pride. These are the words that are brought to mind when this mighty being reveals itself to you. Do you choose to brave the wrath of Latios?", and the oher reads some other geneic thing about latias.

So, you fight the pokemon you chose, and one of two things happen:
1: If you caught the pokemon, Stefan congradulates you and gives you a badge stating that you are an honorary member of the Smoov guild, and welcome to their tower near such-and-such a town. Stefan moves to te tower and becomes a storyteller, sometimes giving hints as to where some rare pokemon are within his stories of journes he had gone through.
2: (This part may or may not be done, because I know most legendaries are one-chance battles) If you didn't catch him/her, Stefan gets furious. He tells you that if you had planned on letting it go, you should not have accompanied him. He says to return to the inn you met in after a day has passed, and he'll let you try again. The process repeats itself.

If you decide to include this, please don't name the npc Stefan Bashkir, because I plan on using that as my account name once the open-beta is released to everyone, not just the pre-beta testers. Although it would make me feel awesome for having the same name as a badass npc...

Edit to the max!: Ah... I read the guidelines just after posting this. no legendary catching. Whoops. Okay, replace latios and latias with... some other people that I'll think of later.

Quests & Plots / Re: My Quest Idea
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:27:06 AM »
I like the idea of catching Pokemon for other people in quests, I doubt cut scenes and fire animations could be implemented in the game though.
Wel, the fire spewing thing certainly seems out of reach, but simple cutscenes like your avatar automatically walking somewhere, or some other sprite leaving the area of vision and then dissapearing would be easy. I've made a few of them myself with rpg maker 2003. Then again, I don't know how this ol' game is being programmed, so it might not be as simple. :o

General Chat / Re: what if they were real?
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:55:28 AM »
If pokemon were  real, they would wipe out and replace their RL counterparts. Except for bears. A Grizzly bear could totally tear apart an Ursurang. Charizard would be flaunting its manliness in the skies like nobody's business. And of course, there would be that ONE guy who just marches out into the wild with nothing but a crossbow and a combat knife (Turok, anyone?), but unlike Turok, instead of arm-wrestling a raptor, this guy would get totally fried conpletely by acccident because some charmander brushed its tail against him.

Then I would kidnap a pichu by luring it into a pokeball with candy. Then I would start a new age of Pokemen by shpwing how great I get along with this teeny little smidgen of an electric mouse to everyone. umans would get Jealous, Pokemon would start feeling neglected, and suddenly everyone from America to Africa (Except Switzrland, who had already done this lie fifty years previously due to their awesome ability to be neutral) would become a pokemon trainer.
Grizzly bears would starve to death because all their food had become domesticated.

I couldn't find the door  >:(
Anywho... Howdy. I'm frenchfry545, in case anybody felt like not checking that beforehand. I've been looking for a Pokemon mmorpg, and after about eight consecutive hours of looking at spam, scam, and those 'games' that are basically picking your action from a list and clicking a button to travel across the globe, I came across this magical land of gumdrops and actual-gameism.

...Unfortunately, I later realized that I wouldn't be able to play it for some time, due to its being still in development. That was more of a buzzkill than buzz killington. But that's OK, because the longer it takes to come out, the better it'll be, right? :D

But enough about me; let's talk about me. IRL, people tell me that when they think of me, they think of A girraffe having a baby with John Steward. Don't ask me about the girrafe part, I think it should be a duck instead. In this ol' game here, I plan on being an internet celebrity which, as described on encyclopedia dramatica, is "a person who makes up for the fact that they don't know about the world outside their basement by being at the top of the foodchain in teh interwebz" My dreams plans might go unrealized though; I don't even have a basement :O. So yeah. Howdy pardners.
I do have one question for teh ppls with inside information. In a screenshot I saw, everyone looked exactly the same: The boy from ruby version. Is that permanent or is it just for the right now?
