Instead of going though everything I found I wanted to know what you guys have done to make the games a little more interesting? Also to share some experiences with any challenge.

Not to sound like a dick but your ignoring part of my post. Those are just some things I found. I want to know what other people have done. Hence the above question.

General Chat / Pokemon Challenges - Handheld games
« on: March 20, 2013, 12:37:14 PM »
Hey Guys,

I have been looking for some more interesting ways to play my favorite games, the Pokemon series of course, and I came across a few ideas.

The Nuzlocke Challenge: This one seems interesting and would definitely up the difficulty of the game.

The Scramble challenge: Again this seems like it would be interesting. The idea of having your party predetermined would definitely make the game a bit harder. Especially if the person choosing your party has a cruel sense of humor.

p.s. I'm going to put this out there just so I don't have any trolls jump down my throat. No, I'm not trying to make Pokemon more interesting because it isn't good enough. Pokemon blue alone has entertained me since its release in Canada and the last time I finished it was in December. I would just like to add a few twists.   8)

Yea that makes sense. I had read the following post online the day I read your response and it confused me a little. I should probably pay more attention lol ... "Over the past year or so, Nintendo has stuck with the mantra that each console needs to make a profit for the company." ... should have looked at the first part of the sentence...."Over the past year or so," lol =P

Well not to criticize, and I'm sure you aren't referring to just consoles, but that doesn't apply to, well, consoles. Nintendo loses money on every console that is bought. It is the games and other software bought that they make money on. And although they make money on the games, that profit also has to be split with the store the game was bought from as well as Gamefreak.

Okay, I'm not disagreeing with you but, could you explain how it is that Nintendo would lose money if someone bought one of their consoles? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that.

Not necessarily. There are a large number of people who buy Nintendo products only because of Pokemon. So if the rights were given out to other companies Nintendo could/would lose profit and I'm sure that they wouldn't be up for that. So even though the Pokemon brand might haul in more money the individual providers of Pokemon may not and there in lies the problem for them.

Ideas & Suggestions / Re: Pokemon varieties
« on: November 08, 2012, 02:36:24 AM »
To be honest, when I thought about it I wasn't really leaning one way or the other which is why I didn't clarify in my original post. I, like yourself, think it would be better to have slight variations as opposed to a whole new color scheme but the reason I put up the post was to see what other people thought about the idea.

Yea I like that idea. It would make it pretty awesome if it was semi-exclusive and it would kind of show your achievements.

p.s the albino was just an example. I don't know if anyone would want one lol.

Jobs / Would love to be of help
« on: November 07, 2012, 03:50:33 PM »
Well first I guess it might be okay to know a bit about me. I have been a pokemon enthusiast since the show was released in north america. I love anything pokemon, I'm a huge card collector, have the games, movies, plushies, etc. My favorite pokemon is Charizard (and his whole evolutionary chain to be honest). I am a business programmer and I work in the IT/business intelligence department for an insurance company. I confess that my java skills are quite inadequate and more then likely useless. I do however have Web skills and can program well in RPG,SQL and VB. As any other programmer would know picking up on another language wouldn't be too hard so I could do that. I haven't done anything with game development from scratch before but I have used so applications to help me make games (ie. RPGmaker series). I am a pretty big gamer so I do have some clue about it.

Just as a note, I do think I know a decent amount about pokemon but I DEFINITELY do not know it all and I'm sure there are people in this community that know 100% more than me.

So with all that being said, I would like to offer my assistance if it is needed anywhere. Though it may seem by my profile that I don't visit here often in actual fact I look every day so being able to be a part of this communities development would be awesome. I would be interested in anything related to testing or quality assurance. Web development is definitely in if needed. I can write pretty good if needed. Anything to do with the forum I would be interested in. So pretty much anything.

Also, before people criticize my post, I know that there aren't exactly an abundance of roles to fill and that my skill set may not match the ones that are available AND that my description for what I would be interested in doing is a bit vague but I just want to offer my help to a kick ass community. So just let me know if anything comes up where you think I may be of some use.

Cheers! :D

Ideas & Suggestions / Pokemon varieties
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:10:45 PM »
Here is something that I have always thought about and I would like to hear your opinions. In nature, every species seems to have their own general physical appearance. If you put two sloths in a room they would probably be very similar in the way they look. But a lot of species also have physical varieties and I'm wondering if this would be something to consider in the Pokemon world.

So what I was think was maybe having varieties of pokemon added to the game, purely for cosmetic purposes. Like maybe a spotted charmander or a albino poliwag (these may not be the best example but just use your imagination). So in regards to the actual mechanics, maybe you could make it like the shiny pokemon and give them a lower rate, not as low as the shiny but lower then normal, and maybe a chance on breeding to get a different variety. I haven't really put too much thought into it as I didn't want to waste my time coming up with a bunch of mechanics and numbers and samples if people thought it was a useless idea. So tell me what you guys think. Is it an idea the community would like to see and is it something the game Devs could add?

Any and all feedback is wanted and welcome! Hope you guys like the idea!  ;D

Ideas & Suggestions / Re: Evolutionary Elixir
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:59:40 PM »
Excellent. Would make it seem like it would be more worth it. Also, I'v read the posts and haven't found this question but I apologise if someone has already answered this but what would happen if I used the elixir on my Charizard and then traded it to you? Would the effect of the elixir continue or would the new owner have to purchase/receive one and then use it?
