Game Features / Re: A balance for weather abilities
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:09:44 am »
As Fred said, the duration was nerfed to permanent while in play and five turns upon switching out. If you have an issue with Rain teams sweeping you in the five turns after a Politoed has switched out, then perhaps the fault is with your team and not the weather.

Generally speaking, losing to another team comes down to two reasons: either the opponent played better than you and out predicted you (or utilized some very good switching), or your team is generally weak to a specific type of Pokemon. (The third option being that the teams aren't balanced at all, but that's why we're here: to make sure that third option isn't an option at all.)

If you have, say, five Pokemon with a weakness to Water, then in general anyone playing a Water based team is going to do well against you without trying overly much. So, what you would end up doing, is trading a few Pokemon out to cover up that weakness. Or substituting in a Pokemon that practically counters a Water team. (RE: Toxicroak.)

Now, I'm not saying that Weather doesn't give a huge advantage to the user. But, when you think about how well a Weather team does outside of their Weather, I think it's perfectly justified that they get boosts to put them on par with other teams. Not to mention, as Fred stated, we had already nerfed the general boosts they get.

TL;DR, Duration is fine. However, we are still tweaking the numbers on the boosts. And that is what our balance testers are for. (You guys are awesome.)

I slept through the damn thing.
Final damage report in my neighborhood:
Causalties - 0
Power Failures - 0
Homes Lost - 0
Flood - three feet above high tide
Homes Damaged - 1
Leaves Strewn About in Frenchfry's Backyard - 20378

Same here, FrenchFry.

I slept through it and all that happened around here was a downed phone line, poop tons of leaves everywhere, and some electronics issues.

Art Work / Re: Amazing Pokemon Concept by SoupAndButter
« on: August 07, 2011, 10:01:00 am »
I personally enjoyed Haunt, Gengar, Typhlosion, and Magmar the most. However, as Frenchfry said, quite a few looked like "failed experiments" and I just couldn't enjoy them. It's true that I do enjoy some of the more morbid aspects of art, but these did not draw me in.

They were more akin to messes similar in shape and color to the original Pokemon that I just couldn't relate with. Almost like seeing a horror movie for the first time wherein the villain is so far misconstrued from the main stream view of one that he ceases being scary and instead turns into a droll curiosity.

Verbose rant aside, I did enjoy those and, as I said, I really enjoyed his take on Fire Pokemon.

Development / Re: BETTER GRAPHICS
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:35:05 am »
Actually, we don't like the Black and White graphics either so we've decided to make the game a text-based adventure game.

"You are in Pallet Town. to your North is Route 1. Professor Oak's Lab is to the South.
Which direction would you like to go?"

Can we do this? I would enjoy this.

Some kind of quick Skype and MSN-like community that allows non-staffmembers like me to contact the team better (I have had a lot of misunderstandings at PU-mapeditor with the staff allready) would make the graphics a lot better and the work more fun.

Uh, that's why we have IRC. It even has it's own little box at the top of the website.

All Pokémon get their stats balanced so every pokemon gets a chance to shine in battle.
Some of the specific training systems don't get added simply because we otherwise get the division between Competitive battlers and the Metagame players. So theres no need for special training to become competitive in PVP battles. ;)

So this game is merely based on the skill of the Player and not on special training. ~

Mostly true, just a little nitpick. Breeding in it's entirety will be included as well as things such as IV's and Natures. So, for the most part, that part of competitive battling will be intact. There will still be competitiveness in PU, but it will also appeal to the casual player as well.

agreed with Pidgey, for the most part. I tried it out shortly after it was released for play. (Not sure how much it's changed since then.) But it was definitely clunky. Not too pretty, either. And the combat felt either hyper paced and frantic in the damage scale, or really slow and like nothing was getting accomplished.

Your talent is good good I can't even bare to stand it! But really, you're active on IRC, you have initiative, and you're a pretty cool person who doesn't afraid of anything. (As far as I can tell from stalking IRC.)

So, I'd say you meet the requirements. Oh, and you're art's pretty good or something too, I guess. (Kidding, I want that Nidoking with the... extra parts.)

Closed or Locked?

-- That's what I'd say if this wasn't in the spam forum.

Lock-...

Ah, almost had me there! Umbreon, personally. Zoroark is too... New? Mainstream? Popular? None of the above. Powerful? Commonplace? Varied? Also none of the above. I just don't like how he looks.

I think that is most of the appeal to individuals. I've loved Umbreon since way back when (Sweet Maker, I feel old saying that.) in the GSC era when he first came out.

Explanation of Set
Nicknamed "Stallbreaker" for a reason, this set demolishes practically anything that wants to set up and stall you out for a prolonged match. Taunt prevents spikes from going up, along with any healing or set up moves. Roost allows you to heal off any damage you have received during the match (Be watchful of Earthquake). Super Fang and Brave Bird are the two attacking options, with U-Turn offering some utility in the set, with Super Fang breaking down anything with a huge HP stat and Brave Bird providing some very powerful STAB.
