Does it have to? A lot of holidays start by unusual manner.

Valentines day. A day when may people were murdered, yet somehow gets interpreted as a day devoted to showing your love and affection?

Easter. Also a religious holiday, turned into a rabbit leaving mysterious painted eggs across your backyard.

Halloween. Supposedly a day of horror and terror, changed to a day where you give candy to kids you don't know that just show up at your doorway.

...Yeah, our calendar is pretty screwed up.

Hush, Solomon. Also, pfft. Christmas. What does an old guy with red clothes breaking into houses to place presents under a certain tree have to do with your god being born?
I don't think Santa Claus is even of Christian Origin. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus(Which I'm sure you all probably know), even though he was born in the Summer -_-

We probably just moved our holiday because kids were more excited about a stalker breaking into their house and leaving them presents than celebrating Jesus' birth.

Actually, Santa is of Christian origin.
He's based on Saint Nicholas who lived in Turkey some 1,500 years ago. He were pretty much a good guy to everyone and gave gifts to the poor people.
Also, there's a story from Russia about a guy that went around and gave poor kids gifts on Christmas Eve, and that's where that came from, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh duh, I can't believe I didn't think of that... My little sisters were watching some thing about Saint Nicholas on T.V. yesterday.

Halloween, originally All Hallow's Eve was a Pre-Harvest celebration, then it turned into "Scaring" people for candy(or fruit, depending on the neighborhood)

At least (American) Independence Day hasn't changed much.
By loving so many, I have touched their lives and helped them rebirth as well. To be strong is to instill strength in another.

Of course none of that matters since Christians are wrong.

I don't care if they're wrong, just give me my presents.

Anyways, Steam has something going called the Great Gift Pile. You can earn free games and coupons for doing certain achievements. You should check it out.

I already got Half-Life 2: Episode One and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising absolutely free.

Since we're on the subject, the holiday we know as Christmas is a mix of the Christian holiday and the Pagan holiday. This discussion popped up a lot in my school. You see, when the roman christians, now roman catholics, converted the pagans, they combined the holidays into one on the pagn hoolidays day, since the christian god was born in the summer. We have christmas because of that combination. Santa clause became the hallmark spokesperson after big businesses saw it as a means to sell more, though the real saint nick lived 1500 years ago, and was a pretty cool guy.

That's enough from me, have a good day.

Actually, the red and white Santa that we all know today is in fact a product of Coca-Cola, and has little to do with the story of St. Nicholas.
The thrill in playing a game does not come from our chances of winning. It is the weight and pressure of losing that fuels our fascination. It is why people challenge, why they gamble and why they compete. The adrenaline that comes from defying defeat is what motivates us.

Ah, now it makes more sense. So what is Christmas today, an over-exaggerated reason to buy more stuff than you need.

Sure Christmas was commercial from the beginning everyone's like "oh Christmas is too commercial its not about buying gifts its about the love you have of the baby Jesus in your heart" i mean when Jesus was born the 3 wise men came running in going "here look what i got you".
