Pokemorphs?![Discussion]NC-17
« on: January 25, 2010, 02:25:23 PM »
OK here is the setting, Somewhere in the universe of pokemon, I think in the same region as the diamond/pearl/platinum. Science from turning people into pokemon progressed even further, Humans eventually gained the ability to use pokemon moves by inserting pokemon DNA.

If they wanted to change ability they just simply changed DNA by inserting another pokemons DNA. Now people who had their DNAs honed by a single species[Ie: more than ten injections within 24 hours with the same DNA] had their bodies honed to a particular specie of pokemon therefore gained minor traits subtle traits to hint at their Pokemon DNA attunement. The people who were completely attuned to one DNA were known as Espers and these had their own pokemon moves that could evolve with time and power. The normal Pokemorphs were called Splicers.

Now splicers only had access to pokemon moves of one specie and only those of their current species.

Espers however Could turn into their hybrid battle forms, (exotic blending into a beautifull but powerfull form). There is no Pokemorph that is ugly in his human form or battle form. Espers also had their special moveset. These guys could communicate with other pokemons and understand them. Often pokemon are flattered at seeing some humans turning into pokemon of their own. Espers are very well liked by pokemon, but having turned into an Esper they had lost their human rights, But pokemon ball didn't work on them due to the human DNA in them. so catching one is impossible in itself. Also espers can only use one DNA after attunement. This gives the Esper a secondary trait and element.

Now the corporation had only used the DNA of some legendaries, rare pokemons too and the strong pokemons, Pokemons legendaries who get discovered or whom have fought always leave DNA samples that the Silph corporation took advantage of. as such Legendary splicers and espers do exist but are few and far between.

Now for people to enter  the roleplay this is your character form;

Name:*
Age:*
Gender:*
Race:(splicer or Esper)
Pokemon DNA[Primary]:(splicers can only hold 1 DNA at anyone time if they use another DNA they switch traits)
Pokemon DNA[Secondary]:(Esper only. the secondary DNA just adds element and flair to the traits of his battle form it cannot ursurp the dominance of the primary DNA)
Appearance:-Human(both)
                  -Battleform(Espers only)
Moves;(unlike a normal pokemon a human mind can store all the moves it can memorize, there fore all the move pokemon learn as they grow stronger the pokemorphs can learn. Espers although can only use 8 signature moves per type( max sixteen moves) and cannot learn moves of the pokemons like splicers since they are able to shift into a battle form.)
Background:*(has to be a reason your character became a pokemorph)

Tell me what you guys think?

 Here is my character:
Name: Exan Crowe
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race:(Esper)
Primary DNA;Absol (Dark type)
Secondary DNA; Iceon(ice eveelution)
Apearance:-human: He resembles a gothic version of himself While his skin is covered in pitch black markings with his long white hair makes him seem like he sold his soul to the devil for his appearance, Sports black clothing. although he seems creepy his enhanced attractiveness only adds to the creep factor. I has Bright blue eyes that just seem to glow in the dark.

-Battleform:He resembles an absol With a crown of ice around his shoulders and atop his head, his skin is pitch black, as his horn and Tail are too, Fur covering his entire body except for tail and face, fingers like the absol claws are also coated in nevermelting ice and his toes areas thus also. a gem adorns his forehead and a horn juts out from his right temple. Snow can some times be seen falling about him.

Moves:-Dark type;

-Ominous Omen(Able to sense disaster striking him this is a non combat premonition)

-King's Twilight( when in darkness he gains strength and can take mortal blows and survive, by fading into shadows)

-Tainted Reckonning (When in darkness every attack launched at him gains a counter atack although the damage isn't significant, it can make longs fights easier)

-Voice Of Chaos( a sonic attack that confuses others as long as he sings)

-Nightmarish Assassination(while in darkness claws come out and strikes form the shadows as long as a shadow is big enough to fit his torso he can strike his enemies)

-Voice of disaster(dark move that controls murphy's law int omaking a disaster on the foe that was marked.)

-Dark Taint( Victim is tainted for three turns and is susceptible to a marked attack)

-Dark Void(area is turned into shadow and is about a 5 by 5 feet area centered on Exan. Exan however, can not move past a circle of that said area of where he was. It increases his evasion and survival odds)

-Ice type:

-Whiteout (snow begins to fall obscurring footsteps and sight a dark figure can be seen and it is that of a strange pokemorph leading them to safety... This is a non combat move that can be used to hinder enemies line of sight, their movement. when this move is active all their attacks risk being misses.)

-Ice Crown ( a Defesive pillars of ice momentarely jut out in a circle around him inflicting minor damage and fear of reprisal, its a counterattack using ice therefore he cannot move and attack while using this move.)

-Seeking claws (this is an offensive attack move that follows one designated target, the number of Ice claws is never more than three. they are fast but can't turn on a dime therefore can be evaded with a roll.)

-Flash Crown(This move is like Ice crown except that there are no pillars of ice and instantly freeze the target, until thawd. This is non lethal as victim never remembers when or if he was frozen.Anything shattering the ice structure can wake the sleeper inside.)

-Ice Meteor Shower(big ball of ice about 200 feet in the air fragments into shards that shower a area doing moderate damage to enemies.)

-Homing Ice Crystal(column of ice pillars sprout from the ground and follow for a distance of 50 feet curving towards the victims in order to impale them. This move is slow and can be evade easily but is annoying as it creates distance for long range moves.)

-King of the North (creates a blizzard that hammers non ice types, while severely reducing mobility to a crawl, steel types aren't affected neither are rock types. also strongwinds interfere with flying types making flying dangerous.)

-Demon of the Frozen lands( summons a creature of ice to aid him as a minion and fights as his side. although it is easy to defeat it can be used indefinetively as long as there is water around and cold temperatures below freezing.)

Background:Exan was a model student who was attractive and well loved by everyone, one day when he returned home he was kidnapped and injected with pokemon dna Then told where to find a dealer to fix his buzz. He became trapped into the extasy of Pokemon DNA mixing into his own and before long he became an addict, injecting himself with the same DNA over and over again. On day he went overboard after being cutoff from his injections and sought to overcompensate his lack with his sense of need and went esper. The transformation was excrutiating at first but after that it felt better than when he shot himself more and more to soothe his pain.

When his parents found out of his addiction they kicked him out, he dropped out of school and depravity made him survive on pokemon berries. He found out he could switch between his strange pokemon ish form and his augmented human form.  He lost his need for the injections when he turned completely into his pokemorph form. He thought of changing forms since Splicers could switch DNA abilities along with the DNA and had ordered a special Iceon Eeveelution but to his surprize He did change his form but no matter how many times he was injected with Iceon DNA the change was only partial and made him into a dark/ice type. He gave up injections but they caught him again and this time he was put into a lab for testing... My character has remained in testing ever since.

Now just keep in mind that your powers can be evaded to give others a chance at fighting, but unless a move is a counter type there is no immediate retaliation. Also carefull of the subtypes you pick as to not godmod your character amd keep signature moves unique. But i wont be too hard on you guys espers can use pokemon moves too if they havent developped their own movesets. also all espers are caught by Silph corporation and are in test labs.

Great idea. I can definitely tell you've put a lot of work into this. Instead of lazily putting up this idea, you've also backed it up with scientific evidence that could be used to make it real, and given your own example which is also pretty good.

One thing I can tell you to work on is your paragraphs. Instead of just pressing the return key once when you want to start end a paragraph, you can press it twice to give one whole line of gap, which will make it easier to read, and prevent tl;dr e.t.c.

wow, me like! congratulations, you have impressed me. i am confused however, i understand that splicers are not specialized, but perhaps i missed out on why someone would choose them instead, it sounded like you just over described espers (most likely because that is what you choose). please consider the alternative a little more.

oh, and good choice picking my favorite non-legendary pokemon. you get +awesomeness points

hi everyone im gladd to see someone tried to make a character. hope it will be completed soon...^.^

Splicers are unspecified, therefore can learn a crap load of moves as a lot of species learn similar moves, they are able to tweak those moves even further, not as an esper can but they arent limited in potential, They have the freedom of choice, take what ever dna they can get and explore the types, some splicers can take on an esper and win if he has the right DNA type and some awesome moves, they can also learn moves at a drop of a hat if they have seen the move done by a certain pokemon and they have the same dna or the dna in them has that move in their repertoire they can learn it. What i mean by repertoire is in potential if they can learn the move in question and they see that move they can learn it right there.

Espers have to develop their own movesets and have to be carefull about it since they are limited in versatility they make up with raw power and affinity. As you could see in the character I made i made moves for field effect, defence and offense. a well designed moveset can be greater than the most versatile move arsenal.

Splicers often have a move data comp which not only monitors their current conditions such as DNA combination (human and pokemon in use), and has a list of learned moves and unlearned moves for the current DNA combo. The move list updates each time the splicer changes dna.

Now the splicers that possess a data comp are ALWAYS wealthy these things aren't cheap. the ONLY exceptions are the company Silph co.'s agents in the Biohazard retrieval units. These guys monitor themselves to remain human and not turn into espers, hence theey also have a corruption percentage when they splice too often, when that thing hits 60 percent they have to stop or risk their humanity, at 80% they are on the verge of becoming Espers but once they are corrupted at 100% they are beyond recovery and turn into espers. Players that are splicers an need to remain human for whatever the reason, can steal such an item from Biohazards retrieval agent, but No splicer can start with such a computer device, none of the players work for Silph corporation willingly, since they had forced into splicerhood and esper hood for the sake of testing.

Now splicers are versatile, they can switch types and learn moves at a drop of a hat, they have a risk factor if they use too many injections but are still human overall, injections are cumulative when using the same DNA, splicers unlike espers can run dry of juice when it comes to their DNA strength, each injection one takes brings a human closer to a corrupted state by ten percent. each day the body purges 20-30 percent of corruption. This is from not injecting DNA and resting for 8 hours a day. but with each additional injection, the splicer can get stronger lasts longer.

Now the reason why most  people get addicted to splicing is that it feels very very good, gives you a burst of extacy, sharper senses, stronger body, and more power.

Now for the espers splicing has no more value other than the extacy factor, once the two types are determined noting can be changed anymore. since they have no more human DNA. Espers can tire but dont weaken like a splicer can, they don't run dry, they actually tire themselves, exhaustion from sheer usage of moves can be tiring for them, but for most espers, getting tired means getting into trouble. without friends to let them rest while someone else fights, a tired esper can be beaten by a splicer, quite easily in fact. this is how all the espers at sylph corporation were caught, they were worn out.

Now as soon as i have a few players willing to enjoy their characters we can create a short stories collection if you guys want, but of your perspectives, none of the players may fight each other for now, we can do powerplaying only with the consent of the other player and base it into an aggreement an arranged agreement. also post such an agreement in this thread.Ill start posint the Actual RP thread.

Name: Kin Adams
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race:(Esper)
Primary DNA;Lucario (Fighting/Steel)
Secondary DNA; Arbok(poison)
Apearance:-human: His appearance was never very much of a concern to him; he figures there are more important things to be worried about than what one looks like. He has trouble finding attire that fits him, and eventually along with a good friend began to make his own clothing. His pants are a cross between cargo pants, which make for easy storage, and gi pants (martial arts pants), so that maneuverability is at its best. He can always be seen wearing a hoodie over a t-shirt as well, but that is of less importance. His hair has been let grow long, and can never quite be tamed, but seems to suite him, and so he likes it, even if it doesn't make him the most attractive person. He knows that if he kept himself well dressed and groomed he would be quite good looking, but as stated previously, that is not his primary concern.

-Battleform - As Lucario DNA is his most superior form, he takes a similar shape to that of a human, even when transformed. The thing that seems to set him apart is the tail He has grown. The tail is very strong and is even powerful enough to support lifting him off his feet, hanging him from a tree, or picking someone else up. The fur from his Lucario DNA grows shorter and shorter as it goes down his tail, and very quickly becomes more like a thin over layer, rather than inch-thick hair, such that the tail does not look hairy, but when felt has more of a texture to it than a smooth snake skin. The only other difference, is the color of fur along his forearms and down to his hands; they gradually fade from the standard blue, to gaining a hint of purple, to indicate the poison that he is capable of unleashing at will

moves: (fighting)
- aura wave - is capable of hitting all targets in an area, or being focussed into a single target (one or the other, nothing in between), Kin closes focuses his power and unleashes a wave invisible to the eye that can only be felt by creatures with a spirit, and sends a pulse through their system, not only hurting them, but knocking them back as well. (does more damage if focused on one target)

-aura armor - strengthens the aura that surrounds his body to almost solidified form (still cannot be seen by normal vision). when hit by another attack, the aura armor takes a portion of the impact, decreasing the amount of damage taken.

-aura boost - similar to aura armor, but instead of boosting defense, it boosts the attack power instead. (i.e. a punch is made, and makes contact with someones nose, because of the invisible force of energy surrounding the fist, the inside of the opponents skull also takes an impact)

-extra energy - takes the power of the aura and harnesses it into the rest of the body to give it a temporary boost, all stats are increased, and sensory level is increased as well. he can now run faster, hit harder, react sooner, and is generally more in control of his body, however, as a downside, when the effects wear off, he becomes weaker, slower, and more vulnerable to attack. needless to say, this move is used primarily in a pinch.

-nagashizuki- a powerful "flying punch" that ends in an evasion. this technique has high power, and avoids moves that take advantage of being hit first, such as counter

-control-using knowledge of jujitsu he is able to manipulate joints and place the opponent into a type of submission hold, however, this also acts as a bind, as the hold is maintained until either control is released, or the opponent breaks out. being under the effects of control does not mean no moves can be used, but only a limited number can, such as aura boost (control, puts opponent in an arm bar, aura boost, sends a shockwave into the opponent through the hands grabbing the opponent)

-aura hijack- for a short period of time, he can superimpose himself into someone else's body and control their actions. the more energy is put into the move, the longer the effects. while in someone else's body, physical damage that is sustained is also carried over when he returns to his body (so causing intentional self inflicting damage is not recommended). this also leaves him vulnerable to attack as his own body becomes an empty shell, so it is wise to be either well hidden, or have someone protecting the body at the time. the further away he takes the body he is controlling the harder it is to stay inside the other person. the more energy that is needed to stay in the other body longer, or create a greater distance, etc. the more fatigue is created when returned to the original body. however, these additional fatigues do not start taking effect immediately upon transfer, so for a brief period of time or distance, no additional fatigue is calculated.

-aura cleanse- he takes a moment of vulnerability to cleanse any and all status ailments. the downside is that he is vulnerable to attack for a moment while performing the move, and actually takes an increased amount of damage if hit while using it

moves: (steel)
-sudden defence- by focusing energy, he can create a body of steel hard armor for a brief period of time. he cannot move when in this form, nor can he be pushed (unless the attack coming at him is just too high of a level), if the attack that hits him is a physical one, the attack takes the damage instead. depending on the speed of this move it may fail, in which case, the fatigue is still calculated but now he also takes 1.25 times the damage as well, but if the move is successful, the only thing lost is a little fatigue.

-solidify ailment D- turns any status ailment into a solid exterior form boosting defense

-solidify ailment A -turns any status ailment into a solid exterior form boosting attack

moves: (poison)
-negative energy- using the power of negative energies, poison is placed inside someone without necessarily touching them (must still come close to contact though). this move ignores any kind of barrier that prevents such an infliction

-poison wave- by manipulating the aura, a wave is unleashed from the body that hits everyone within a small radius (unless they shield themselves or hide behind some kind of barrier). being hit by this move does not guarantee being affected by it, but if it is successful it inflicts a poison into the opponents personal aura and causes greater and greater damage the longer it is dealt with

-poison barrier- an invisible wall is constructed around him, and if any physical attacks are made, poison is inflicted on the attacker

-sick feelings- a poison time bomb is placed within his own aura, so long as a move involving the aura comes into contact with another person, the poison is transfered to them. the poison continues to be transfered from person to person by means of aura enabled moves for 20 seconds at which time, whoever has the poison attached to them is infected

-negative advantage- a boost is given to all physical attacks so that they may inflict more damage, but after a short period of time, he himself is poisoned

background: i'll post this in the thread for the actual RP

oh, btw.... post

i don't remember you stating only 2 types, also, i kept the same number of move sets.

....and believe me, when it comes to fantasy, nothing should be easy, there should always be some complexity, it tends to give an extra punch to character and story development

Name: Todd Powroznick
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Esper
Primary DNA; Xatu (Psychic/Flying)
Secondary DNA; Jolteon (Electric)

Apearance: [HUMAN]: Todds true appearance has been altered from his normal state now that he's been overpowered by the addicting injections. Todd is about 5feet 7inches tall, and has real pale/light green looking skin. His nails are bit longer and sharper than usual. He has two normal looking human eyes, and one oddly black colored centered eye on his forehead. His hair is short and is as white as snow. It's spiked back like it's jelled into individual spikes. He has 2 long strands of hair coming down from his side burns with what looks like almost a tribal bead thing going on. He hates his appearance even though it's not as bad as he makes it to be, and it's easy to hide any real Esper appearance. His body is usually very warm to the fact it's almost like he holds an electric current inside of him.

[BATTLE FORM]: When transforming into his battle form, he gets shorter than his human form although he still somewhat resembles his human form a bit more. His face shapes into a more bird look, with his nose and mouth turning into a bright yellow beak. His finger and toe nails become longer and sharper, and his main color is yellow. All his eyes are opened, and pitch black. His hair grows longer still with the spike looked. He has two white spiked feather wings on his back, but still hasn't gotten the hang of long distance flying.

[MOVES]:
Physical-
1.Tap Wave- He must touch someone for this move to work. He sends an electric current through the person/pokemons spine to paralyze them for a good amount of time through his palm. Can burn his palm if done wrong.
2. Caving Wings- His wings retract around himself covering most of his body, and almost like a thunderbolt surrounds him through the friction of his feathers creating a shielding electrical charge + his wings. (for defense)
3.Slash- If the opponent is within reach Todd can use a regular slash with his stronger nails, and slice deep into their skin with a chance of causing paralysis.
4. Acute Senses- His third eye sharpens all of his senses, and skills.

Special-
1.The Illusionist- If the opponent stares into his foreheads centered eye, they'll loose their sense of "true" site, and see him where's he's not truley standing. (basically you're throwing your moves into the wrong direction, not really a dodge).
2.Shock Pulse- Shocks the heart of another person to attempt to bring them back to life is close to death. When used on himself his body gets heated up and is damaged, but can fight and get back up with some serious wounds. If overused it can his cause death due to over fatigue.
3.Choke- Can use his psychic ability for a small period of time to choke his opponents using all 3 eyes.
4.Corrupted Instinct- When in a serious state of mind all 3 eyes widen up, Todd loses control of ALL human instinct, no sympathy or remorse who and what ever is around. It lasts until he gets fatigued or someone restrains him well enough (though it won't be easy).  He sends electric pulses everywhere; frying the life of anything. His psychic ability and 3 eyes let him see things much slower than they really are, and can dodge most attacks. Not much strategy in his attacks, just in a powered frenzy.

I'll think of more later :P

[BACKGROUND]: I'll come back and edit this later too, i need to do some stuff around the house right now. xD

Name: Alex Cook
Age: 20
Gender: M
Race: Esper
Pokemon DNA[Primary]: Pidgeot (Flying)
Pokemon DNA[Secondary]: Glaceon (Ice)

Appearance:-Human
As a human, Alex looks pretty normal. He has medium length brown hair, a bit wavy. He's thinly built, but rather tall - so he looks a bit like a twig. He has a fairly nondescript face, apart from his eyes - which appear to radiate a cool indifference. He generally looks apathetic to the happenings around him - rarely feeling the need to crack a smile. Alex also generally wears light brown clothing, to compliment his love for the Pidgey line of Pokemon Species.

                  -Battleform(Espers only)
Alex's battleform is less of a form than a presence. This is because in his battleform, rather than radiating indifference, Alex's eyes radiate freezing (sublimated) vapour that interfere with sight and senses. Alex's breath is also turned into a blizzard wind as he exhales, which numbs and slows opponents.
If you were to ever see Alex in this form, he would appear still human - but pale as a ghost, cold as a ghost - and at times even incorporeal. He gains wings in this form, that merge with his arms - and extend further as Pterosaur wings did. The feathers of his wings are organic, but are structured such that when air blows through them they create a howling cacophony.
Alex also gains crests like Pidgeot's head crest that flow from his forehead, shoulders, and down his spine.

Moves;

Flying:
- Flight: Alex can fly, hover, etc.
- Light Presence: Alex does not make sound, or displace air when he moves. Alex also moves faster due to having less air resistance.
- Gust: Alex can trap his opponents in a mini-tornado - any debris in the tornado can strike the opponent for damage.
- Toss: Alex can throw his opponents around with powerful blasts of air. Collisions with the ground, etc. deal damage.
- Deflect: Powerful blasts of air can slightly offset the trajectory of attacks, increasing their chance to miss.
- Wind Burden: Alex exerts a force on the opponent that severely hampers their movement - slowing them.
- Wing Batter: Alex's wings are not flimsy, and he can use them to batter his opponent, sometimes cutting them with sharper feathers.

Ice:
- Chilling Presence: Being in Alex's cold presence slows enemies.
- Sublime Cover: The Sublimation of Alex's soul creates a thick vapour screen that is extremely hard to see through. Enemies in this screen can barely see, smell, and hear. Alex moves faster in this screen and retains use of his senses.
- Icy Touch: If Alex clutches an enemy with his hand, they are frozen in place.
- Gangrene: In the cold, blood circulation is slowed. Any moves that cut the opponent's flesh creates an infection that deals constant damage.
- Icy Blast: Alex can freeze the air around him into sharp ice shards, that can be flung at the opponent.
- Self Sublimation: Alex can turn incorporeal for short periods at a time, resisting all physical damage.

Background:
Alex was a new trainer who chose a Charmander as his starter Pokemon, but, he very quickly learned that the Charmander was not at all interested in battle, and preferred  to play with other Pokemon and socialise. At first, Alex was extremely frustrated about this, and hated that he had picked the wrong Pokemon for his goals - but realised that forcing Charmander to stay with him, and fight beside him would be akin to enslavement, and that he should respect Charmander's goals - not just his own. Alex reconciled with Charmander, and they became great friends, but Alex's hunger for adventure began to grow stronger, and he discussed this with Charmander. They decided that Charmander could live with another family with pet Pokemon, or stay with Professor Oak - and when Alex was a great Pokemon Trainer, he would return and Charmander could adventure with him, not battling, but socialising with Alex's new Pokemon.
Alex gave Charmander to his childhood friend's family - who already had a Growlithe and Mareep for Charmander to play with.

Alex started his journey with no Pokemon - just the experiences of Pokemon friendship he had gained from his time with Charmander - and so he set off with a different plan in mind. From Charmander, he deduced that there would be other Pokemon in the wild who don't want to fight, and might even have a family to attend to. The idea of taking a Fearow from a nest of eggs frightened Alex greatly - he didn't want to take a Pokemon who didn't want to go.
Alex stayed near his home in Pallet for long, despite officially being on his journey. He never walked in his door however, but slept outside, on route 2 - just letting the Pokemon become familiar with his existence. He studied how they moved, interacted and the like - and it impacted on Alex heavily, turning him away from the meaningless interactions between humans - and showing him the great nature of life and its meaning.

Finally, after 2 long weeks of sleeping outside with minimal human contact (though, there was a man who kept giving him potions as he passed for some reason...) - Alex woke to a boisterous Pidgey climbing on him, screeching at any other Pokemon who dared come close. Waking, Alex felt the Pidgey's cool feathers and petted it, surprised that the Pidgey did not bite or flee. This was the start of a powerful relationship. Alex returned home to get more supplies - startling his mother who had no idea that he'd only been 2km away this entire time.

Moving throughout the land, Alex and his Pidgey fended off wild Pokemon, while not wounding them too much ("They might have babies, okay?") - Alex found that a lot of trainer's Pidgeys, while looking similar, did not have the drive to fight - and therefore only knew very set moves and strategies - such as a simple tackle, while Alex's Pidgey could dodge and counterattack at once, and apply powerful gust attacks to slow the opponent, and position them for powerful wing clips.
Alex calculated that a Pokemon who wants to fight, will have more capacity and determination to do so - and would be able to adopt more intelligent strategies than a Pokemon who is more reserved in battle.

Alex's first gym battle was extremely tough - Brock's Rock Pokemon were impervious to Pidgey's attacks - no matter how hard he pecked, or battered the rocks with his wings, there was no result - the only damage he could deal was when Pidgey gusted Geodude into a cluster of rocks with a strong impact force. Alex anticipated this, and was already planning his counter strategy. He trained up Pidgey's endurance - explaining that just like how you can't win a game of Tennis in 5 minutes - you can't break down resilient Pokemon with basic strategies. He trained his Pidgey to use his gusts to amplify gravity several times - pinning trainer's Pokemon against the ground.
When it came to the final battle, Brock had no option but to surrender as, while his Pokemon weren't being destroyed, they were injuring themselves by fighting against the forces applied to them. Alex walked away with the badge - and while other trainers joked that he didn't deserve it as he didn't KO anything, Alex knew they were just butthurt that his Pokemon was so much stronger than theirs.

Alex kept moving, but thought it would be time to get another Pokemon - now Pidgeotto was strong, amazingly strong - but he knew there would be challenges that even the strongest Pidgeotto was not suited to facing. He also knew that other great trainers would be able to counter his strategies when he came to them, particularly keeping the Elite Four in mind. Plus, Sleep Powder and Sing were starting to make battles rather difficult. Alex sat out in fields for days and nights but couldn't find suitable Pokemon. He found himself with 2 badges and in Vermillion City before finding a Pokemon who would fight as well as Pidgeotto.

In the grass leading to Diglett Cave, Alex was stopped by an Eevee. He tried to bypass it, but the Eevee wouldn't let him past - so Alex knew that he would need to fend it off with force. He allowed Pidgeotto to attack the Eevee with restraint, but, as Pidgeotto used simple swoop maneuvers ("It's a wild Pokemon, how strong can it be?") - Eevee would leap upon his wings, dragging him to the ground and threatening to break them playfully. This took Alex by surprise, this Eevee wasn't a menance, it was just playful with a little daring, and, exceptionally strong. After a couple of thwarted swoops, Alex told Pidgeotto to test the Eevee, see exactly how strong it was. Using its superior gusts, and hampering the Eevee's movement, Pidgeotto was able to dominate the battle, but, as there was still restraint being showed, Eevee kept getting back up, refusing to quit.
Alex was perplexed, not only by the Eevee's strength but by its attitude - Alex was mentally grabbing his Pokeballs as Eevee was pinned - but he was not about to catch a Pokemon who may not want to join his party.

Alex and Pidgeotto finally beat the Eevee by gusting it off into the woods - and set up camp for the night. They were woken by yipping sounds, and a lot of buzzing. Eevee had gotten in trouble with a swarm of Beedrill, and was outnumbered too heavily to fight them off. As Eevee ran, Alex made himself known, leading the Eevee and the Beedrill in pursuit to the powerful Gust of a grumpy Pidgeotto. The gust quickly dealt with the Beedrill, and Alex went back to sleep.
Finding Eevee sleeping close by the next morning, Alex started to put the pieces together - and after a brief discussion, he had a new Pokemon.

After obtaining the Thunder Badge, Alex proceeded back to Cerulean - where, due to the cold of winter, it was snowing. After a quick visit to Bill, and the resulting battle with a Rocket Grunt on Nugget Bridge, Eevee started to evolve. Alex was taken aback, what had he done? He wasn't in possession of a stone, and he wasn't in the cold mountains or the lush forests... it was day time - so Eevee must be evolving into Espeon, right?
As Eevee glowed, the snow fell harder, faster, it started to turn into hail... and Alex considered that, as Cerulean is on higher ground than most other towns, and he was higher than Cerulean, on Nugget Bridge... it could in fact be...

Glaceon.
Alex was still a little confused. Why would his Eevee with such a hotheaded, energetic nature evolve into the more passive Glaceon over Flareon and Jolteon? With Eevee's fluid attacks, perhaps Vaporeon would have been more suitable?
Thinking over what he had experienced with Eevee, and it's reflexive aggression, it seemed strange to get an Ice eeveelution... however, behind all of this - perhaps there was level-headed calculation... a somewhat cold formula to battle?

Either way, Alex was extremely happy... it was unexpected - and opened up more possibilities for his Pokemon. Truthfully, there are only so many different ways to tackle a Caterpie. Alex and his Pokemon ran to the Pokemon Center to get out of the hail storm. They eventually made it, using Pidgeotto as a wind shield, as Glaceon tried to deflect as much ice as possible.
They were bunkered down by the hail storm, stuck in the Pokemon Center for 12 days - where you could barely see out the windows for the icy fog moving through the region. "If you could produce these fogs in battle, Glaceon... you could get away with anything..."

After the storm subsided, Alex went to visit Bill a last time before moving to Lavender. In the storms, Bill had grown bored with his teleportation experiments, and had started on something new. Something genetic...
"It'll make you closer to your Pokemon..."
"I don't need that Bill, we're as close as you can get..."
"Really - you will climb to unimaginable heights!"
"Are you sure it won't turn me into like a Pokemon like all your other experiments?"
"Errr... yeeaahh?"
The last answer didn't sound promising.

Alex woke a week later, there was so much fog in his mind... what had happened to him? He felt fine... aside from the week lost... he was hungry...
It seemed the fog had followed his consciousness to the real world... as he woke to a chilled sensation... "Okay Glaceon... you can cut that out..."
"It's not Glaceon, Alex... it's you..."
"Damn it Bill! Why do you alw---"
Alex neglected to finish his sentence as his relieved Pokemon jumped to greet him.

That's how Alex got this way... an Esper... his cold battle calculations, and apathy towards humanity... manifesting in a fog... a chill...
He considered himself lucky to have his Pokemon to keep him warm. His love for them fighting this fog... their love for him warming his frosted heart...
He still travels with them - still trying to become a master trainer... but now the differences between him and his companions are so much more blurred. Would they let a Pokemon fight in the Indigo League?
