Well that is pretty much how I use pokemon I give HMs to. I rarely use them in battle, except to take a hit for when I want to switch pokemon without letting the enemy get a free hit on my more important team member. I think utility is less demeaning than slave, but it may still be a little demeaning.
Ahem...
"Saraptor used FLY!"
"Swampert used headbutt! The attack missed!"
"Staraptor used FLY!"
"Swampert fainted!"
Not all HMs are battle-useless. Fly is among my favorite attacks.

it would have to be torchic for me cause it turns into blaziken and I love fire types.
GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!
it was so much more simple when it was just the first series only over 150 pokemon now I think I lost count
Though it seems ash is aging slower than me he was in his teens when I was a primary school kid I 17 and it's been 3yrs since highschool and he's like what my age or something in the latest series I mean I started growing a beard by 15 yrs of age

No they aren't all bad. Just some like cut and rock smash that are only useful in the early game. rock climb is pretty weak as well.

I would actually count Fly as one of the bad ones because the extra turn could be used to freely switch to another pokemon that resists fly, or use a move like dig, dive, or protect.

What pokemon resits fly?
Anyway... fly is best if your pokemon attacks first. That way, the can't use the chance to dive or dig. And if they use protect, just rinse and repeat. Fly has a higher pp then protect.

Okay, but its not like they're immune to it. Besides, even if it loses half its power, fly is a strong attack. Like solar beam. Solar beam could pwn almost any fire types, so it doesn't matter if they switch pokemans.

Rock, steel, and electric types resist fly.

and Moves like Twister, Gust, They do 2x Damage on Flyers, (I think certain Elec moves do too.)
By loving so many, I have touched their lives and helped them rebirth as well. To be strong is to instill strength in another.

I dunno about that electric thing, but in order to use that x2 factor effectively, you would have to somehow *know* that the other guy was about to use fly.

You Dont have to know, Youre just as likely to have: Twister v. Fly, as: Earthquake v. Dig.

TL;DR:

effectively

...Yeah, the chances are just about the same: slim. It's all in luck, which means that if the pokemon using fly is the faster one, there's no 'tactic' against fly. Just the chance that you got lucky, just like you have to hope an attack misses.

I've always picked a fire starter pokemon mainly due to their rarity in the beginning of the game. But when this game comes out it will be Bulbasaur mainly because it was my FIRST mon ever. And plus, doesn't it just look fat and lazy as Venusaur? Feckin awesome.
Call me Spooks. Or Spooky.
