The fifth generation Pokemon games were literally just announced on the official Pokemon website, and we translated the information within only a few seconds - they will be named Pokemon Black and Pokemon White! The two games will be released in the fall for the Nintendo DS and new information about them will be released on April 15th on their new official website. However, Pokemon Sunday and CoroCoro magazine will likely have information regarding them later this week, which we will post as soon as we get. This is so exciting!!

Looking at a Japanese trademark database, the names were first requested to be trademarks on April 10th, 2009 along with a few other colors that have not been used yet (like Grey, Crimson, and Scarlet). Why choose black and white though? Why a return to colors... why basic colors? Maybe the games take place in the past? Maybe the colors have nothing to do with anything? We'll find out all the basic info soon, so be sure to keep checking back!

UPDATE:
The first CoroCoro magazine scans have been leaked on to the Internet, revealing game screenshots of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. The magazine dedicated two pages to the news, both of which are below along with close-up images of some of their sections; click them for larger images.
The female character is wearing a pink and white hat, pink clothing, and has a ponytail; the male character is wearing blue clothing, has bushy hair, and is apparently wearing the same hat, but turned backwards. Judging by the screenshot where the clerk is talking to the female player in the Pokemon Center’s Poke Mart, it appears that characters will now speak through speech bubbles. In terms of graphics, the battle system seems to have been overhauled, showing the full back sprite of Zoroark instead of just its upper body. Next to the screenshot where the male character is standing on the bridge, CoroCoro mentions that players will be able to ride a never-before-seen vehicle. There appears to be some sort of car next to the bridge, so perhaps it is the vehicle in question. Other than this blurb, CoroCoro does not reveal anything significant about the games other than the obvious fact that they will rely more heavily on 3D graphics, as seen in the various terrains.
It might just be the scans, but it looks like the nurse at the Pokemon Center has brown hair. Either Nurse Joy is trying a new style or she’s simply not Nurse Joy, which could mean we are far, far away from the past four regions (where the Joys have not reproduced like bunnies and invaded). The PC inside the Pokemon Center seems pretty retro too - it uses a CRT monitor rather than the modern LCD screens the modern, real-world uses and that the past few games have used. Different time, different place? And then there’s black and white, old “colors.” I could be looking too much into all of this, though. :D
Pokemon Sunday will announce the games on their show tomorrow morning in Japan, which is actually this afternoon in U.S. time. When they do, we’ll post all the information they reveal, so be sure to check back here later today!

The professor of Isshu is female and named Professor Araragi. She has a Chiramii.

A blast furnace? There is something like melted iron.
A building with the unique shape of a bee's nest. It looks like there is a lava-like material here and there... Also, if you look at the full map, there is a place where you can see what appears to be something like red lava! It's man-made, so maybe it's a type of blast furnace for melting iron.
A town at the mouth of a river with a drawbridge.
There are many bridges around the Isshu Region which is abundant with rivers. The red drawbridge in the picture also stands out pretty well on the map. At the base of the bridge is something that resembles a crane and also a lighthouse, so this place could be a port city.
A theme park-type facility.
There is a facility that looks to be a theme park with a Ferris Wheel?
A sand storm raging in a desert?
A place like a desert with blowing sand. It's hard to see far due to the sand, but there appear to be trainers here and there. If you look a little below center of the map, there is a vast desert. Maybe this could be it. There appears to be a ghost town buried in sand on the map, could this also be a place in the adventure!?
An airfield?
There is a runway on the left side of the map!? Could it be an airfield? Maybe you can get on an airplane and enjoy an adventure in the sky. Also, directly above that is a building that looks like a tower. The tower has a spiral staircase and gives off an old-fashioned feeling.
Two windmills?
Around where the land looks like a staircase, there are two buildings with?the same shape. If you look good at them, there are propeller-like things attached to them making them like windmills. A very relaxed scenery, could they be generating power?
Two-tone color town.
A little above the center of the map is a little strange place. Looking at it, the two-tone color town is separated into left as brown and right as light blue. You can also see a big majestic building in the center... What could this place be?
Ancient ruins?! There is a building that could be some ancient ruins on the place that looks like a rock mountain at the farthest top of the center of the map. On the staircase shaped rock mountain you can see several cave-like holes. Maybe the inside is a complicated maze.
What's in the center?
There is a lake at the center of the map with a big island at the center of it. If you look really closely you can see that the outsides of this island is jagged and looks like it's man-made. At the center we can see something in the shape of a spiral, but what could it be...? It's a place full of mysteries.
An abandoned factory?
It's hard to see it on the map, but if you look reaaally closely you can see that the walls and ceilings are broken. Last month there was a picture of an abandoned factory that was revealed, could this be it? What sort of Pokemon could be here?
The beginning town?
The small town that can be seen in the bottom right of the map. It's as if we've seen this blue roof and the road going around it somewhere before... That's right, it was one of the game pictures during the first announcement! Let's predict that this is the starting point of the adventure and the house with the blue roof is the main character's house!!
Sky Arrow Bridge?
"Sky Arrow Bridge" is no doubt the giant bridge that stretches to the city thought to be Hiun City. It seems like this picture is looking towards Hiun City from the eastern opposite bank.
The giant city, Hiun City
Hiun City is lined with skyscrapers. Even when looking at the full map, the city's grand appearance stands out. However, directly above this giant city is a ghost town and a vast desert. The contrast is quite interesting.

Team Plasma Grunts!

A new video has revealed more new information from Pokémon Black and White, including some of its linking functions with the C-Gear and aspects of the battle system. The C-Gear's functions, previously described, are shown in detail, with a new feature known as "HiLink" revealed. This feature will allow players nearby to appear in the overworld in another player's game.

A new feature known as Pokémon Musical (??????????), a possible successor to the Pokémon Super Contests featured in the Sinnoh-based Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, was also shown, with a similar dress-up function to the Generation IV games.

The Pokémon Dream World feature, which allows a Pokémon from the player's game to be uploaded to the internet and have adventures on a new Pokémon website, was further detailed; Berries were shown growing in a garden, and further details of meeting Pokémon of previous generations in this dream world included a brief battle with a Pikachu similar to the Safari Zone or Pal Park, where none of the player's Pokémon were sent out.

The Isshu overworld was further revealed, with differences between the overworld of Black being contrasted with that of White. New Trainer classes, including an American football player, a nurse or flight attendant, a backpacker, and a baker, were shown. A train similar to the Johto-Kanto Magnet Train was also demonstrated leaving a station, and battles will, like with the S.S. Anne, S.S. Aqua, and S.S. Tidal, be able to be conducted on the train.

Watch the video!

Oha Suta aired new information about transferring Pokémon from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver to Pokémon Black and White. The feature, called "PokéShifter", will allow players with two DS systems to transfer their Pokémon to the Generation V games in a Pal Park-like manner. Pokémon caught via PokéShifter will presumably be caught in a timed minigame.

Game Freak director Junichi Masuda has updated his blog with an unexpected announcement. Pokémon Black and White Versions will only feature Generation V Pokémon up until the player acquires the National Pokédex. In the update, Masuda said that his intention was to give players both new and veteran an equally new experience, akin to Pokémon Red and Green/Blue Versions back in Generation I.

Emerald is not a remake of Sapphire and Ruby like yellow is not a remake of blue and red. It is instead a 'director's cut' version.
