HM Usage
« on: January 26, 2010, 11:37:16 PM »
Every time I make a thread I feel like it's already been addressed. xP
And if it has, just do away it.
But anyway.
We're all familiar with the annoying tree blocking our way & if you aren't see Mr_Dark's signature.(Very funny by the way)
We're all familiar with fouling up our Pokemon's move sets for lame HMs like Cut, Flash, and Waterfall. (Okay maybe not so much Waterfall)
I understand the hand held games are single player RPGs and these things are necessary for the games because they are strictly one player quests. But since PU won't be strictly for quests, will we have to foul up our Pokemon's moves with HMs?
And will we have to deal with HMs at all?
As far as cut goes I thought it never had to be a move, I always thought that a Pokemon would have the common sense to cut a tree (Of course it is an 8 bit game so what do I expect?). And maybe in PU things like cut surf and waterfall, etc won't have to be moves but, abilities, like Squirtle will naturally be able to surf, Sandshrew will naturally be able to cut, and hopefully Raichu will naturally know Flash, without it having to be a move.
So, in short.
Will PU members have to worry about teaching Pokemon things through HMs or will they just have the ability?

Why not keep it as a move? I guess there will be the move deleter somewhere in the game to remove it if you want, or you could simply use an HM slave for that.

HMs could be used to prevent some newer trainers from going into too difficult areas for the time being, and will sort of keep track of the progress you've made.

So, I would like that HMs remain as they are.

You made me wonder something though. What HMs are we going to have? Throughout the different regions, the HM list has changed a little.
Kanto (RBY) : Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash
Johto (GSC) : Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Whirlpool, Waterfall
Hoenn (RSE) : Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Rock Smash, Waterfall, Dive
Kanto (FRLG) : Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Rock Smash, Waterfall
Sinnoh (DPPt) : Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Defog, Rock Smash, Waterfall, Rock Climb
Johto (HGSS): Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Whirlpool, Rock Smash, Waterfall
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

Currently playing Pokemon XY/ORAS/Shuffle and Clash of Clans and testing out PokemonRevolutionOnline and Dragonmon Hunter....

why not keep all of them and include a move deleter like jerry said and maybe you have to acheive something to be able to get  HM so you can unlock more areas as you go along

We don't know yet.

Yes there will be a move deleter, and you don't have to "unlock" areas like in the gameboy games. But maybe you need to do some kind of HM move on a special switch or something which will open a door for a couple of seconds or minutes.
