So far there is no valid reason to give random pokemon away at random occasions. Whether it be every 6 month or every 6th year. wouldn't matter.

How about if instead, the egg hatched into a Pokemon from a small group of pre-selected Pokemon?

I always found when i wanted a certain pokemon egg i always got my pokemon to mate with a ditto and i would always get that pokemon in that egg will that be in this game.

You don't have to use a ditto. The pokemon that hatches is always the same species as the mother.

You don't have to use a ditto. The pokemon that hatches is always the same species as the mother.

Actually, as long as the parents have the same egg group, you'll get an egg which is along the evolutionary line of the mother.

Otherwise, you don't get any egg.
