Title: Early pokemon in black/white.
Post by: Bing on March 08, 2011, 04:42:58 PM
Is it just me or are the first pokemon you can catch annoying. (personally I don't like normal pokemon, with the exception of snorlax.  I find the fact that I need to train one of these to beat the first gym a waste of time, because they will never be in my team and they are not good hm slaves...

What's your thought?

I agree. I personally call them Rattata's.

Theyre differant pokemon but practiacally the same. All have terrible moves, and evolvs too early screwing you over in future.

That's why besides flying pokemon (Pidgey, Hoot-Hoot), I never catch normal pokemon early game for my team :P

I never catch my whole team at the beggining of the game. I just catch my team as I go along if I really like the look of them, without checking if they evolve. I makes the game funner to not know whats coming, in my opinioun

I don't either it's just I had no idea you could get one of the monkeys so, I trained this dog thing so I could beat the type advantage of the first gym.

I wish I had paced myself a bit. I finished the game way to early.

I don't think the early pokemon are that bad, Ratatatta being the only exception. I never catch them though. I plan my team out before even buying the game. It makes it a bit more orginized and fun.

I was planning to have Archen as my bird pokemon... but I accidentally took the fossil for Putooroga... so I fell back on Woobat.

But then, I too catch pokemon along when I travel, I don't really plan on anything really, but if a pokemon I like appears, I try to catch and start its training.

Wailord, you already went through all the areas?

Ya so was i Jerry, until i saw Archen's ability. Have you seen it yet? Its debatably the worst one in the entire game.

Actually I think I had a look, but I don't remember now. And going through the jap version, I didn't know half the abilities of my pokemon XD

But anyway, I already have a water pokemon in my team and the fact that I had 2 ground teams too... I needed a pokemon with other types. The only flying ones that I considered were Woobat and Archen. Now realising that there is also the Psy/Fly one in Noah's sig.

I'm going to check that ability now...

Hm... I see. There is now the need to bypass this ability... >.<

Truant takes the cake of worst abilities.

Archen isn't actually that bad of a pokemon. When its ability was first leaked, everyone assumed that it was going to be a horrible pokemon. But Archeops is actually one of the best pokemon in gen 5. Its ability may be bad but its still firing off physical attacks from a base stat of 140! Plus it has a great movepool to back it up in Rock Slide, Earthquake, U-turn, and Crunch. Plus it has a base 110 speed which outspeeds many pokemon in todays metagame. The only thing that it really needs to worry about is priority users such as Conkledurr and Scizor.

Idk it's ability kinda turns me off.  I actually don't like any of the flying pokemon so far.  I caught a tranquill just so I could use fly.

I don't think I'm gonna have any bird/flying pokemon on my team at all, which now is 5 strong with:

Litwick
Emboar
Simisage
Zebstrika
Seismitoad

^Win quote of the day.

If you play smart and avoid sending it out against anything that will take a chunk out of its HP (Water types and Scizor), then you can easily OHKO many pokes and U-turn when you don't like the match-up. Yes, its ability SUCKS but its still a pretty good poke. Moral of the story: Game Freak just likes to troll us. :P

Yeah, it can be used very effectively but, I would rather not have to deal with it.  I've just decided I'm not gonna use any of the bird/flying pokemon in black.  They either look really stupid or just have bad abilities.  That being said i'll prolly just fill the 6th spot on my team with an ice or dragon type.

Good plan. I'm using Sigilyph since to me its the best flying type in the game after it learns Cosmic Power. If you want a dragon go for Axew. It learns dragon dance about 3-4 levels after you catch it and it can plow through the 8th gym which is what I'm about to do.

The Zebra was the only one I got, with Snivy. And the first Gym was a piece of cake. I think I did train my pokes too much in this game, I just got a full team though.

Snivy [Final] Lv43
Zebstrika Lv43
Scrafty Lv43
Lampent Lv43
Excadrill Lv43
Axew lv35

And I've only beat 6 Gym leaders.

I've beaten all of the gym leaders and my team is:

Simisage 51
Zebstrika 51
Seismitoad 51
Chandelure 51
Emboar 51
Axew 7 (I bred him with the ability mold breaker, cause for some reason I couldn't catch an axew with that ability.)

fear not, i am one of those people who are not ashamed to use an AR. I have codes that give me what I need. And as of right now i have a US rom. so I am not in a hurry.

I only use an AR for competative prepping. I never use it to get certain pokemon as I catch and breed those myself. I usually EV train the pokemon then use rare candies to finish the job. I also use it to get items such as focus sashs as they are dissposed of after use and aren't easy to come by.
