I was thinking about a weekly newspaper. The newspaper will have more sections like...
- Updates (Taken from the GoogleProject page)
- Week's topic
- Ask <PU Forums Member>
- Best Pokemon Images
- Special week section added
...and more!
I will start searching PU Forum Members to work at it, once a PU moderator will allow the newspaper idea.

Well... there's twitter and things are either too slow, or there are too many things to do to keep that up =/ Go figure :P
But for the time being, I think that the Announcements board does well that job, for the most part. And since there aren't that many members active on the forum, I would suggest looking more into it once PU is out :)

This is actually a pretty good idea. As of now it's pointless though. Once the game is released I could see a lot of types of articles run.
I would love to see info for new trainers. And a column on competitive battling.
I'd be willing to help out on either of these.
Oh, and if this does happen we should have a grammar and spelling test/thing. I wouldn't want to turn out a piece of crap.
I guess I'm saying that all writers should know basic grammar and spelling, as well as correct typing procedure.

And as long as the PU team feels like going along with the idea, it would be fairly simple just to turn the newspaper into an image file and allow it to be programmed in as being view-able by interacting with the newspaper rack near the entrance to the store, or something along those lines.

Indeed, if the PU members decide this is an idea worth going for, then the ingame newspaper could be a reality. Anyways even if that happens that will probably be when the game actually comes out, and not in the Beta.

In a Win32 without the "bugs" the script won't work. But if you want I will try to find some ShellExecute command to avoid the bugs...

I don't know about that... Unless they believe the idea is worth it, I do not believe they will make this idea. But even if they did, it would be way after the game came out in full, since there are many more important stuff they have to make.

Even if you compile the app, it can be opened in a hex-editor ;) If you want to be ultra-9001-safe you have to obfuscate the file but that is just too much effort for this. Then again.. I don't see why you want to protect the newspaper with a password?

Yeah there is no point to password protect something that we want all forum visitors and members to see.
As far as how to post it. The writers should send their columns to an editor. Who then compiles it and forms the paper. After that just put it up for download somewhere, and make a thread with links for it.

Sorry about not getting you something, I was busy with other things, then I went to write, and just couldn't think of anything. So, put me in a position with writing, I can usually fit the bill for it. You can check out my other work on here site in case you want to know how much experience with writing I have.

I don't see what "making a newspaper" has to do with programming. (note: your AutoIt scripts != programming).
1. People write a column or article
2. Column or article is edited/spellchecked by another person
3. Final products are given to an editor who designs the newspaper (this can be done in Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, Powerpoint?, etc..)
4. Upload the newspaper to the forums
5. ? ? ?
6. Profit
I don't see programming anywhere in that process, or am I missing something?

If there's someone that wants to do that go ahead by all means but, just saying your going to have to come up with a new topic every week, then your going to have to write about it. Mr. Dark has a point with all the positions that will need to be filled too, you'll need reliable people that will be able to do that.....

I think every week would be too much. If you do an issue every month you have enough time to get subjects to write about and give everyone some time to write their stuff. You have to keep in mind that people will do this in their free time and RL stuff always takes priority. (The foremost reason why it takes so long for us to release a "playable" version of PU)

Well it's not that it doesn't look good, it's just too plain. Adding some colors will help it, so first post that one and we will see what's next :)

Also, the content placement can be different for each newspaper issue since you might have longer, shorter, more or less articles. So you can't really make a template which can be used for each issue.
As for your example. Like said before, it's kinda plain, font-size is somewhat too big, article blocks are not really aligned so it looks messy. To be honest, it looks like something which has been made in 5 minutes using MSPaint.

Honestly it probably was. Meowth if you want to actually get a good review on your template and want the position, make one that you would actually publish in the newspaper, not some piece of crap thrown together in 5 min. Then people can judge if they like it or not.

You shouldn't posted that newspaper "DESIGN". Like Viper said, a 5 min. work is a piece of crap.
What you have to update:
Mr.Dark said about align. Yes it looks very messy.
Viper said to work more on a design and don't make a stupid one.
All the people said you have to add more colors.

He means he provides an example, and then someone comes along and thinks it's the final product, and wants them to change it. The problem though is that they don't suggest a change, they state it rudely. Now, I'm sure meowth meant well with his template, and wanted to know how to make it better, he just took some things the wrong way.

You still dont get my point i see. Look we understand that you did it not intending to be the final product and that you want advice, but what you dont get is we are giving it. Many people posted suggestions for advice on the first one. And im trying to tell you we cant give adequate advice on something that you wouldnt seriously post, as it was meant to not be your best. Now this last one you put up we can give real advice about it since you meant it to be good. I however have no graphic design talent so i cant really say anything, i leave that for other people.

Just finish your design WITHOUT WRITING ANYTHING. Writing will be made by the article members and then will be corrected by grammar members.
After it you can add the text.

Well there's nothing wrong with boots, I mean "Next>> and <<Back Buttons. I also think we should have a Table of Contents on the left side, sort of like a Menu on a website which lets you jump to Articles quicker.

Just a thought... I don't see why there is so much pressure on a good design. You can also just make a topic for each newspaper issue. In a topic you can easily make different text sizes, add links, images, tables, colours, etc.
If this is about showing it in-game, that's not going to happen anytime soon, since we have a lot of more important stuff to finish first.

Note: I'm not quitting because it's to hard, or because I suck, I'm quoting because you guys made me mad, you don't like my first one, understandable, but then I put a lot of work into one, USING MY PWN WORK, and Mr_Dark makes some stupid design where all he did was use a bit of stolen art and color the newspaper blue...AND YOU LOVE THAT ONE?! What the hell?

Well, what it needs is some serious organization. Laughing at someone's attempt to help is well, not helping.
What we need is someone to take the time and create a nice template for the paper.
I still like the idea of a monthly paper, with upcoming events, interviews, trainer help columns and so on. Well what it needs is an official staff. (Not PU team official) But, some decided people to work on a prototype. One person do design that template, a few people to write a few mock articles, and maybe an editor.

I would be glad to come with advice and such towards the paper, but I'm not interested in creating anything for it. Unless you want very bad drawings that is.
I'm gonna get a bunch of spare time between xmas and new year's, so I might actually do something creative except of Minecraft. Might as well try some drawing on paper...
