Title: Leveling
Post by: Safur on May 09, 2011, 08:15:19 PM
I think Nintendo does fail at 1 point: leveling.
If you beat your rival (I know they won't be in the game) the first time at level 5 your starter will grow to level 6.
But if you fight him later, you will have to beat around 10-15 pokemon of the same level to go level up.
Could PU make this a bit more normal, I mean like starting with 3 beaten pokemon to level up and ending with 10 or so.
That would be a lot better and harder at the beginning and less boring at the end of the game.
Also when you capture your team you will have smaller level differences.
I hope somebody understands me and wants to react

No, using fictitious numbers, you'll have to beat 10 pokemon at first then 100 pokemon later on.

Well sometimes when i play the game my health would be almost gone and then the AI end up using leer when they could of defeated me so sometimes it's the AI.

As a pokemon levels the required exp to level again goes up. This system is the same for Pokemon, MMOs and generally any RPG in the entire world that uses a level system. Even Reach has this. Nothing should be changed about it. This system rewards dedicated players and distinguishes those who play alot from those who dont. Plus it makes lvl 100 pokemon more rare and more valuable.

If the mechanics are as I remember, it's actually harder to level up in PU than in the original games :)

I changed the experience earning mechanic so leveling up your Pokemon will take some time. It now also depends on what level pokemon you are fighting. For example you'll get almost no exp. when your pokemon is 10 levels higher than the one you are fighting.

If I could like a post, it would be this one.

But then, I would just like every post you make. :x

Well, that's a good idea, but please don't make the differences in need to beat same-leveled to level up between 1-2 and 99-100 to big. I hope you understand what I mean.

An example:

In an RPG I once played, Exp gain was determined by this.

Exp needed for Level up: 1000 (This never changes)

Exp gain from victory:
 Above your level (200-300)
 At your level (100-200)
Below your level (1-100, usually around 1-25.)

Is this similar to PU, Mr_Dark?

Will the pokerus virus which helps with levelling be implemented?

The pokerus doesnt actually help with leveling, it helps with EV training. When a pokemon with pokerus gets EVs, it will get double the rewarded EVs instead. And since there are no EVs in PU i doubt the pokerus will make its way there.

Wait , if there is no EVs , so that mean all the Kingler lvl 100 will have the same stats ?

So, in my eyes, it is a mixed leveling system of Tales of Symphonia and Lost Oddesy?

I'm kinda confuse @@ can someone explain me what is EV and IV lol

EV are points you gain from battling pokemon. Certian pokemon gives a specific stat category points. when 4 points are collected in one attribute, you gain 1 xtra point in that stat. a total of 510 Evs can be collected but it is split into 255 for two stats at max to prevent OP.

Iv are invisible numbers that are automatically inflicted on a pokemon that has been caught, recieved in an event, or hatched. these determine what the stat will be on their own, without EVs, which ranges from 0(worst) to 31(perfect).

that's the basics.

This is how every Pokemon game that has ever been released, has ever been. So it's safe to assume that's how Exp will be distributed.

From Level 1-100, The Exp needed is ALWAYS 1000, and the gain is usually like that.

That's not true. And also, we'd rather not release the exact details of experience mechanics.

FF8 worked like that. Till you get to the island closest to heaven and hell then you get like 800 exp per fight and lvl up stupidly fast.
