Title: EXP modification

Just an idea, but it has always seemed strange to me that a fire pokemon gains the same EXP from defeating a water pokemon as a grass pokemon does. shouldn't a fire pokemon gain MORE EXP? because it's harder?
My, simple suggestion, is that a pokemon's EXP that they recieve from a battle is multiplied by their damage multiplier from the type of the defeated pokemon

charmander v Magikarp. normal- 30 xp(just an example)
charmander v magikarp. x2 for water weakness= 60 xp

Is that a bad idea? or has it been suggested already?

The example you gave is a problem itself. It's a Magikarp. Anyone can beat Magikarp. People with charmanhurrs shouldn't get double exp since it's easy to beat anyway.

It's just an idea. Of course, this might seem to contradict trainer XP and stuff.
It's just an issue I had with the games and I thought it might be a cool addition to this game, certain exceptions could be put in place, like chaining lowers Xp rewards etc.

As much of this idea has potential, it really seems too easy to manipulate.
I could go around with my Blaziken, and have it fight level 10 wingulls.

Does that mean because the wingull has a resistance to both of my types, I get x4 exp bonus?
From a coding standpoint, thats more or less how it would work.
It really isn't a bad idea, but its too difficult to apply without being easy to break.

Maybe instead of a bonus of 2 times as much.  A pokemon can boost like 5% more experience if it has a poor type match.

Ex:-5%  Charmander fights Squirtle.  Charmander wins.  Squirtle gives out 300 exp.  Because Charmander is a fire type the exp is multiplied by 1.05.  The resulting exp is 315.  It's not so much as people could abuse it, and it still gives a boost to people who like a challenge.


Edit:  2X and 4X is way too much, and thus easy to abuse.

I wouldn't go past 5%.

This can work, just no magikarp bonus. It's too easy to beat anyways, and probably still with the new balance system.

I highly doubt we will ever encounter a level 100 Magikarp ever. People would want a Gyrados. Unless you're going to try that Bing.

The problem with this idea is usefulness.

What will be achieved through implementation?
How will the gameplay improve?

If we make the bonus exp high, it means that people will grind particular pokes and the game will be a grind-fest.
If we make the bonus low, it will have no presence, making it pointless to implement anyway.

Will it improve the gameplay?
Not really.

Still a cool idea though I guess?

Id say in a type advantage situation, 1.25 is a decent multiplier, as long as there are some restrictions:

-has to be within 5 levels of your pokemon, otherwise, no bonus.
-exclude weak pokemon like Magikarp, Zubat, etc.

It is a good idea, it just needs a little tweaking. =P

Edit: As for why I said "within 5 levels", it makes it almost impossible to abuse, and encourages trainers to "pick on someone their own size".

 Having a bonus for defeating a Pokémon with a type advantage, but not having that same bonus unless it is in 5 levels range seems a waste for me. Why would you not get the bonus for defeating a much higher level Pokémon? (if you can of course, for whatever reason)

That was just a sugesstion of course, but yeah....

It could work for higher levels as well.

Ex: Lv50 would get bonus from Lv 45-100
Lv 75 would get bonus from Lv 70-100..

We're going to have skills in PU too keep that in mind,
Including training that also will become a skill making it easier to grind pokémon when you train more than other players.

Also, magikarp was extremely tweaked in the original games, giving just very little exp.
