Title: Pokemon Universe Tribute Thread
Post by: Monzta on March 15, 2016, 01:55:32 PM
Hey everyone. Pokemon Universe is not being worked on anymore. It has not been worked on for quite a while, now. There have been surges of activity, hype, and production throughout this project, but overall, the ambitious project has come to an end.

Joining this forum as a teen and now making a career off the skills I learnt from this forum has been an amazing progression to reflect on. I thought i'd open this thread as a sort of "obituary"-- the Dutch hosts of this website are being forced to pay for the domain and bandwidth for a closed project.

Now, the definite future of this forum has not been collectively decided upon just yet, so this isn't an announcement of its closing. However, to make it clear-- the game is not in development, and most likely never will be.

Reminisce away, friends. It's been a hell of a journey, and we thank you for being a part of it!

Good idea making this thread, Monzta. MissWednesday miss hanging out with everyone here. It's where we two met and it will always be a special place for us. If not for PU we wouldn't have met and we wouldn't have created these two lql

I hope everyone is doing good in whatever they may be doing!

Well, I am up for helping remake/develop it if people are still willing (Education purposes).

I know Unity may not be as efficient as SDL, but it sure is faster to develop with.

My name has changed quite a lot since I joined this forum, from Lugiafan96 to.... this. And I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, because without this website I wouldn't have the friends I have today or be near as good a writer. It was definitely a blast role-playing and drawing characters, and it's definitely helped contribute a lot to the me of today.
Right now I'm working on my own project, but I'm juggling that with college so you probably won't hear anything from me for a while until I can really nail down what I'm doing. I hope you all have a good life.

Yes, PU is really dead...

In the meantime I've been working on some private hobby stuff. Also started doing some 3D-modeling, painting and animating.

Take a look at a battle arena I'm working on. I might be willing to work on to create an entire game, starting with only battling.

I had a lot of memories here. From a lowly scrub to a guild leader to an admin and writer. This site will always hold a special place in my heart as I try a new ambition and maybe try to get back into writing (seeing as I've been on a 4 year hiatus from it) Perhaps in another timeline, PU is considered the best Pokemon MMO on the planet. I shall build a machine to get to that timeline.

I do wish I could have done/do to help with the development but I never really have time with all my uni stuff to learn any development skills from scratch, but I did enjoy it here when the forums were active.

When i came here, i knew nothing about Pokemon.I learnt lots of new things here. You guys taught me a lot and helped me "evolve".I registered on this website on January 28, 2011. Each year, i waited eagerly for this game to release, and even though i knew that this game will take a long long time to release, i never lost hope.I wish i could have helped me with the development. Anyways, I'm really enjoyed it here.I met so many amazing people here. This website will always have a special place in my heart because without this website, i wouldn't have met you all. Good luck in all that comes your way in the future. If nothing goes wrong, I'll be starting college in a month or two but i promise I'll stay in touch.

I'm not really remembered by any old members, because I didn't join until around 2012, but this place is the reason I still write. I made an account just to start some shitty RP that I ripped off of that book about Greek demi-gods that was popular back then, and my grammar was atrocious. In retrospect, I should have been crucified for it all.

But I wasn't. Jerry sent me a revised version of the original post for the RP with all the errors corrected, and people actually joined. That RP is about 76 pages long in all, and it's overall pointless and had no sense of direction because I was new, but just the sense of nostalgia I get from thinking about it is enough to make me glad I did it. Two of the people that joined that RP I still talk to on Skype to this day.

I eventually moved on from just the RP section to join a guild, though, Elemental Elites. I didn't know anything about the game on a competitive level, but I wanted to act like I did. It was probably really easy to see through all of my bluffing, but Roloc ignored all of that and still helped me out and taught me to battle.

Some of my best memories from this site were made on PO. Not just battling, either. Roloc can tell you a few of us weirdos used to use it as a place to write before I knew what Skype and Google Documents were. It also gave us gems like this:

I don't even know why I remember it, but I can still remember the day I was hanging out in the main chat and that was said. Weird stuff like that used to happen all the time. It was really fun to just hop on see what shenanigans the server was getting up to that day.

All good things must come to an end, though, and I guess this really is the end of the line for Pokemon Universe. It's been a great time, thanks for teaching me to write and helping me mature from the stupid teenager I used to be.

Hope you all have the best of luck in whatever you go after.

I stumbled upon these as I was organizing my clusterchansey of an image folder which reminded me that this place exists. As long as I'm here I might as well post these before they inevitably get lost on my hard drive again.

I remember being in the irc channel when the first one happened but I can't remember the context of the second image. Pretty sure it's from here though.

Edit: Good old language filter.

I rise from the dead to say that it was a pleasure gentlemen.

I was in a bad place when I first joined. Upon reflection, I'm quite surprised at how much PU helped numb my emotional distress. So thanks for that guys! I'm a Voice Over Artist and Film Director trainee at the moment, and will always accredit the PU community for keeping my creativity and enthusiasm stimulated during a bleak part of my life.

Nostalgia and fond memories!

Wow, I'm really glad I randomly decided to check in today...

I haven't made a post since about 2014, but I've kind of been lurking on the forums for a while now. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew the game wasn't being worked on anymore, but I was still so attached to this community. I joined this site when I was 12 back in 2009, almost 7 years ago now. It's shaped a lot about me, from writing style to social demeanor. It's really weird thinking back to where I was when I first started coming here. I even went back and found my introduction post from after the V2 update.

Hey everyone! I'm Darkmage64. I also joined a little before the website's V2. I can't wait to play the game in 2010! By the way, If anyone knows where I can get POKEMON pictures for my profile, send me a private message, or post it here for other people to see.

I was so young and naive. I cringe every time. I can't believe I was even here before the V2 update. Most users probably don't even know what that means.

Speaking of V2, so much has happened to me over the course of joining this site. I started PC gaming primarily, moved once or twice, dealt with some crazy friend drama, became WAY more open-minded, found out I was gay (if only little homophobic 12 year old Darkmage95 knew it back then), made some amazing new friends...Just looking at that PU logo can really take me back.

RPs were an adventure here. I don't think we ever managed to finish a single one, but damn if they weren't the highlight of my day. Not to mention they've really taught me a lot about my writing process. They were an invaluable gift during a difficult time in my life (despite some of the drama that I sometimes caused surrounding them...).

And oh man, was the IRC an experience...I still miss it from time to time.

Despite having been here for so long, I still feel as though I barely know a lot of you. We've had conversations, played games, and duked it out on the balance server (#TeamBulbasaurForever), but it feels like everyone's got so much more to them that I just never got the chance to learn about. A large part of that is my fault for not taking the initiative to talk to people (and because I was kind of an asshole). Even so, if and when this website disappears, I'll have fond memories of it.

I'm 18 now, trying to get my act together in college and figure out what I wanna do with this crazy thing called "a life". I'm in the midst of trying to set up a YouTube channel for game reviews, so I guess we'll see how that turns out. I still see a couple of you now and then on other platforms like steam, but I've been too hesitant to talk to anyone. I guess this is your invitation to strike up a conversation if you ever see me.

Considering this post was made a couple days ago and people seem to be saying goodbye, I don't know how many of you will see this, but at the very least, this was really cathartic for me. Probably something I needed today.

Though I've known some of you for nearly seven years now, I believe I have yet to even tell any of you my first name (unless you've gone digging for it). My name's Jordan. It was nice talking to you these past few years. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

I've sorta been avoiding commenting in this thread, because it really makes it feel like it's the end of an era, but I gotta say... Thanks to literally every damn person here. From Frenchfry, to Roloc; each of you chanseyers ended up helping me grow as a person. If only little ten year old me knew how much I'd chansey grow from this poop.

I think one thing that I'm really happy that I learned was, that I enjoy writing. Not to be good at it - never to be the best, but that it's a fun thing to pass the time, and that it's something I'll probably never give up.

I think a really important thing that I learned, was to just... Say chansey it, and hang out with people though. For awhile, you guys were the closest friends I had; and even some of you still are. Over the last six years, I've practically grown up on this damn site, and to think that this is pretty much it's send off...

Well, this message has been pretty chansey all over the place, simply due to the fact that I've just been typing poop as I see it, so,

TL;DR: Thanks, assholes.

Also, why is your profile marked as female now? O.o Is there something you would like to share with the rest of the class? Hmm?

You're right, I need to watch my chansey language.

And, that, my friend, is a really long and unfulfilling story. That I won't be sharing with the rest of the class. Because it's really boring and needlessly complicated.

This thread has inspired me to do something I think we can all enjoy. I decided to run a server on PO. While I do plan to mod it and edit it until I can replicate the balance we had going here (with some creative liberties) I decided to let it be for now and go with good old fashioned pokemon, except with the usual SR, Quick Claw and Eviolite ban. While I'm having trouble banning legends in the tier, I think we can enact a certain honor code on that one.

The server IP is 68.82.137.122

The password is 1234 (a couple of trolls came on and started saying some very extreme and racist things)

It will be up until 10PM EST since I don't have the option of having a 24 hour server running. Be nice to chat and battle with you guys again.

I have been lurking for a while but I couldn't really think of anything to write ._.

I was just proud and glad I could've been part of the art team, even though in the final phases I didn't end up being as productive as I hoped. At least I got to meet some awesome people around here and I definitely enjoyed my stay on the forum. ^^

If anyone wants to stay in touch, I've recently been using Discord very occasionally. It's a bit like skype though lighter. And it also allows to make a free server in which one can be invited through links. It can be run from a web browser if you'd like to test it out a bit first. My username + tag = Yume Tsuki#5473

It's been a while since I posted but I check in occasionally. This site holds a lot of memories for me too. I could tell from the start based on the development progress that this game would never get finished and if it ever did it would get shut down pretty much immediately by Nintendo, so I stuck around for the community on the forums. I met a lot of cool people through this website, joined a league team with the developers Urmel and Dark, contributed to the game in a small way, participated and casted the forum tournament,  and enjoyed my time here.

If anyone wants to contact me, my skype and email is [email protected]

Later all.

Though ive made a total of.. twenty two posts? thought it was less then that.. this place was still a great place to stop by and see what was going on with everyone and although i didn't really get to know many or really any of you, i know that all of you are amazing people. It's sad to see this place start to go into its eternal slumber after seven years, maybe one day someone will take up the passion that was and is still here.

Though this may be the end phases of this site as a pokemon game thing, i hope to see the beginning phases of this site being reborn or hatching from its old cocoon of a metapod that was once baby caterpie into a wonderful Butterfree.

What type of Butterfree will this site turn into i wonder, i hope to find out in the future. To all those who worked on PU, thank you for all of you volunteered hours on this game, site and forums.

Who knows what the future holds, only time will tell. Hope to see you all in the future and get to know you all.

Well then. This is quite interesting to come across. Not sure what to say but I guess I'll just say that I wish college hadn't made me disappear from this wonderful community. I enjoyed the year or so I was active on here and was very happy to be involved with starting the RP section on this board.  I have wonderful memories of sitting on irc during highschool and just chatting and learning pixel art. :)
Bit of an update on me. I now work on my own game design on the side of my career job and graduated with a degree in 3d modeling and design.
