Trainers Lounge / Battle: King of the Stadium
« on: December 14, 2011, 03:01:07 am »
Okay so I wanna play a little game. Since we don't have a set ladder on the testing server, lets make a makeshift ladder.

Here's how the game will work; for now I will select a five members of our community to become the "Royal 5" based on my own perception of skill (I'm including myself in this to start the game, not because of ego xD). Each memeber will be given 10 "points" to start off with. For each week, players can challenge any of the "Royal 5" in a 3-round battle. Defeating a Royal will earn you 2 points while the Royal in question will lose 2 points. Losing to the Royal will earn the Royal 1 point.

At the end of the week the points will be collected and tallied and a new set of Royals will be ellected.

Rules:
-Sleep, Freeze, and Species Clause must be on durring challenges.
-Battles must be 3 rounds.
-Please report any and all Royal challanges here so we can keep track of points.
-You do not need to keep logs of the battles, but it would be helpful if there is a dispute on a battle.
-Please be honest about battles to keep this fun.

Royal rules:
-At the beginning of each week, all Royals' points will be reset to 10.
-Every week (starting next game), the top Royal will be named "King" and will be allowed to set a goal line for that week.
-Royals can keep their position if they can surpass a certain number of points, or the "goal line" before the final day of the week.
-Royals who do not meet the goal line will be demoted and replaced with challengers in order of point totals.
-The goal line is not allowed to be lower than 15. This means that on any given week, a Royal must gain at least 5 points to be eligable for staying in the Royal 5.
-If a Royal is unable to stay active or does not want the position for the week they have been assigned, please PM me or post here so we can get a back up ready.

First Week Royals
*Noah_Road (King)-11
*Bing-12
*Cortex J.-14
*Shadowfred-10
*The_Fox-12
First Week Goal Line: 17 Points

Because I probably either explained something vaugely or missed something, please post any questions. Happy battling :)

Balance Server Testing / Speed/Spore Analysis
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:09:35 pm »
I would like to get a second opinion about a certain strategy. This game is all about making pokemon balanced; we don't want a pokemon that can't be used competatively and we don't want a pokemon that is too OP'd. On the test server there is a lot of people running Simisage, Ledian, and Sceptile--all very fast pokemon--with Spore or Grass Wistle. Now I know the balancers do evrerything for a reason but do you think that it might be a bit unfair to give 100% accurate sleep moves to pokemon that can outspeed more than 80% of the metagame?

For Ledian and Simisage, its only a matter of putting an opponent to sleep then setting up Swords Dance while the opponent either stays in or switches. Since these pokemon don't have many reliable checks or counters after the set up thanks to their amazing speed, the Ledian and Simisage users can then sweep most if not all of a team. While there are many ways to get around the move Spore (Magic Mirror, Lum Berry--which only is a temporary fix, Vital Spirit/Insomnia, or switching to a pokemon that already has a status ailment) not every player will have access to these ways, especially when the game is realeased items/pokemon with the right abilities may be scarce.

Also when the game comes out, will all pvp battles have an automatic sleep clause? If not then this strategy can easily become extremely abused as one can but a traiener's whole team to sleep with ease. Generally, Spore is only given to mushroom Pokemon (its not as reaslistic when a monkey is able to release spores from who knows where) which happen to be slow enough to not be able to abuse it.

Normally in a competative scene, the best solution would be to tell someone to run a counter specifically for spore users or just put a Lum Berry on a pokemon. This can not be the case for a MMO. The test server has proven that most trainers will not be playing this game with a competative outlook and therefore most players will not be able to react to the faster pokemon putting them to sleep then setting up. Lum Berries or Chesto Berries also cannot be the definite answer as they require time to find and deplete after use unlike PO.

My only solution would be to take Spore away from pokemon like Ledian and Semisage or lowering their accruacy to make them more akin to Sleep Powder. This is not a thread ment to complain but is to give the balancers a different vantage point on a situation. I would like to hear what other people have to say about countering the Ledian/Semisage + Spore strategy or ways to make it a bit more player-friendly.

Art Work / Noah's (failure) Gender-Swaped Trainers!
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:51:05 am »
So I was bored durring this break from school and was playing around on photoshop. I decided to make a new trainer avatar to fit my status as a monopsychic trainer. My problem was that all of the psychic male trainers either had less-than-quality artwork or looked incredibly stupid. I decided to make my own avatar instead. For some reason, I decided to use Sabrina as a base and after several hours successfuly made a male version of Sabrina that I am proud of. With a little more time on my hands and because gender-swapping was actually kinda fun, I decided to gender-swap some other trainers. Here are some of the swaped works.

This took forever to do! Its also one of my best photoshopped works. Getting rid of the "lady features" and making the guy (who I will be calling "Noah") look masculine was kinda challenging. He still looks pretty feminine since I couldn't really make baggier clothing without straying away from the original art style too much.

Change the hair color, get rid of the very little curves that Maylene had, and tone down some of the more femanine features and you have Meleik! I couldn't find a better boy name that sounded like "melee"...

Extending the hair and changing the colors was all I had to do to make Bugsy look like a girl...since he already looks like one!

Yeah, these aren't the best but they were for fun and out of boredom. Any suggestions to make these look better?

Trainers Lounge / Pokemon Universe Community Tournament
« on: September 10, 2011, 10:38:19 pm »
With the moderate success of the Elemental Elites' small tourney, we would like to extend the same experience to the whole community. The Elemental Elites will be hosting a tournament with all guild allowed to enter.

Each guild will be represented by 3 of it's  members. Battling will take place on the Pokemon Online battle simulator. Each match will consist of a best 2 of 3 battling style. The winner of the tourney will be featured in an upcomming PU trailer. The finals of the tounrey will also be recoreded and put on the internet as a means to attract new players to PU.

EDIT: Thanks to Level5Pidgey's supports, the winner of the tournament will also have the honnor of becoming a balance tester for the game!

Trainers Lounge / Where would you come from?
« on: March 26, 2011, 03:44:47 pm »
I got this idea from another topic about picking where your hometown is.

If you could live anywhere in the pokemon world, where would it be and why?

I would live in Castelia City. It is by far my favorite city in the games and I love the metropolis type cities in the real world. I would kick out Burgh and replace him with a psychic gym leader though...

Games / My PU Psychic team
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:37:14 pm »
So I'm on the Elemental Elites team and I wanted your opinion on this team I'll be making when the game comes out. I've tested it on PO and I'm currently number 8 of over a thousand on the monoteam ladder.

Team at a glance:

Metagross-Lead
Clear Body
Adamant Nature@Occa Berry
252 Atk/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp.Def
~Stealth Rock
~Meteor Mash
~Earthquake
~Thunder Punch

My lead and one of my favorite pokes. Meta helps set up stealth rocks which supports my offensivenly minded psychic team late game. Meteor Mash is his main STAB and can OHKO many non-fire/steel type pokes before the attack boost and many fire/steel types afterwards. Earthquake is for those fire/steel types who resist its main STAB. Thunder Punch is so pokemon like Jellicent and other bulky water/flying pokemon don't wall me. Thanks to Occa Berry, Meta can withstand most incomming unboosted fire attacks and hit back with EQ. The only fire attack he can't survive from at full HP is V-create (V-generate) from Victini and the occasional critical hits.

Espeon-Calm Mind Bouncer
Magic Bounce
Modest Nature@Leftovers
252 Sp.Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Sp.Def
~Calm Mind
~Psycho Shock
~Yawn
~Hidden Power Fire

Espeon is my secondary sweeper. It outspeeds many threats and can take care of the special walls with Psycho Shock, which uses the defence stat when dealing damage. Hidden Power Fire is for the steel types that think they can wall my team and also hits bug and grass teams hard. Yawn is for forcing switches or putting pokes to sleep so it can set up or switch to a better counter. Espeon's main weapon is its ability, Magic Bounce. Magic Bouce works like a permanent Magic Coat as it bounces back all status moves, entry hazards, stat lowering moves, and other moves like tuant and torment back at the user. If Meta is against a faster lead that I predict will use Stealth Rock/ Spikes/ Toxic Spikes, I switch to Espeon to have the Stealth Rock/ Spikes/ Toxic Spikes sent right back at em. This is very useful for the likes of Breloom who will try to use spore then set up, only to have it bounce back and fall asleep itself.

Starmie-Rapid Spinner
Natural Cure
Timid Nature@Leftovers
252 Sp.Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP
~Surf
~ThunderBolt
~Ice Beam
~Rapid Spin

Starmie is mainly used to get rid of entry hazards, counter flying/ground teams, and absorb status moves. It gets near-perfect coverage with T-bolt and Ice beam and helps take out many fire teams single-handedly. I may or may not swich this with a choice scarf/trick set.

Sigilyph-The Super Tank
Magic Guard
Bold Nature@Flame Orb
252 Def/ 252 Sp.Def/ 4 Sp.Atk
~Cosmic Power
~Stored Power
~Psycho Shift
~Roost

At first glance, you would think that this pokemon wouldn't be too great but this pokemon can be the best physical and special tank in the whole entire game. The idea is to switch out after a pokemon is KO'd or when you can switch in safely for flame orb to activate. Because of Magic Gurad, which prevents indirrect damage including damage from status problems, Sigilyph is effectively safe from the damage of burn and immune to other status moves that would hurt it such as sleep or freeze. Cosmic Power raises both deffensive stats and which Sigilyph's bulk, it often finds no problem finding time to use it 6 times and raise its deffensive to max (over 960 for deffence and over 1200 for Sp.Def). After this it can proceed to use Stored Power. Stored Power's base damage is based on how much it's stats are raised. After 6 Stored Powers, the base power for Stored Power is 260! This is enough to OHKO almost everything in the game. So Sigilyph can sweep an entire team without getting barely a scratch on it. Roost is used for recovering any damge its done and Psycho Shift is for burning to rack up more damage and cirppling physical attackers.

Gallade-Physical Sweeper
Justified
Jolly Nature@Life Orb
252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP
~Swords Dance
~Psycho Cut
~Close Combat
~Shadow Sneek

Gallade is to hurt the special walls, Blissey, normal types, Chansey, ghost types who threaten my team, Blissey, priority users who aren't steel types, Blissey, oh and Blissey.

After a Swords Dance, anything slower than Gallade will most likely be OHKO with Close Combat. Psycho Cut is the main STAB as I prefer not to lower my deffensive stats when I don't need to. Shadow Sneek is for the ghost types who would otherwise plow though my team, especially Chandelure. I chose a Jolly nature soley for the purpose of outspeeding other Gallades using Shadow Sneek. Justified is an ability which raises its attack when hit by a dark-type move. This is also my main counter to dark teams and dark-type pokemon. I can often use Gallade in conjuncture with Metagross to break many physical walls down.

Alakazam-Main Special Sweeper
Magic Guard
Modest Nature@Focus Sash
252 Sp.Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP
~Psychic
~Shadow Ball
~Focus Blast
~Hidden Power Fire

My main pokemon and main sweeper. Alakazam outspeeds many threats and 1-2HKO's most of them with Psychic. Shadow Ball is for ghost types and opposing psychic types. Focus Blast if for dark types and the occasional normal type that Gallade can't handle. Hidden Power Fire is for the steel types and is more reliable than Focus Blast because of the higher accuracy. Magic Gurad prevents indirect damage so Alakazam can use its Focus Sash without having to worry about it breaking from entry hazards.

Feedback and criticizim is appreciated. Please no "OMG A DARK/GHOST/BUG TYPE POKEMON WILL BEAT YOU!!!" comments. This is not true for one, as I've covered my weaknesses (most of them) and its annoying to read. Thanks :D

Art Work / Rate the Avatar and Signiture
« on: March 03, 2011, 10:13:08 pm »
Alright so I've seen this on a few forums and I haven't found it on here so I thought I would start one.

The point of this thread is to rate the person above on their avatar and signiture. Rating is just out of 10 points and no commentary is needed unless you want to.

So a general post would be like:

Avatar [insert points here]/10
Siggy [insert points here]/10
[insert optional opinion here]

Its easy. We can start by rating mine :P
