Development / What would you like to see?
« on: April 05, 2012, 05:18:20 PM »
We (the Pokemon Universe team) are always looking for interesting things to show you guys and girls or find new things for you to do in the meantime till the public Beta is released. But most of the time our ideas are not that great or we just don't have any, so that's why we're asking you!

What is it YOU would like to see from us? Is it:
- More insight in the development progress? We had weekly updates at some point.
- More/different forum boards to post in?
- A chat where you talk with other members? Oh wait we have that already ;)
- Nude pictures of Kamaran?
- Pokemon tournaments?
- ?????

Ofcourse there are some things we can't give, like a release date or access to our test server.

So.. If you think you have a great idea which will be an addition to the PU website, doesn't matter how crazy it may seem, feel free to post it in this topic!

News & Announcements / STOP SOPA/PIPA
« on: January 18, 2012, 11:46:49 AM »
Trainers,

We’re not usually inclined to comment on politics. We’re a group of fans who like Pokemon games, and making/playing games is just a whole lot more fun.

Called the "Stop Online Piracy Act" (SOPA) in the House of Representatives and the "PROTECT IP Act" (PIPA) in the Senate, these bills are a misguided attempt to curb the illegal piracy of copyrighted content (like movies, music and games). Preventing piracy of copyrighted content is a laudable goal.

However, SOPA/PIPA goes far beyond simply addressing piracy. This proposed legislation actually threatens any website that features user-generated content. In effect, any copyright holder could file a claim that a website is hosting unauthorized content (such as the pokeballs in our logo, the "Pokemon" name anywhere on our website or maybe even the image you have as your avatar). Under the law, ad networks, payment providers and internet service providers are now potentially liable for their user’s infringement. These services could then be compelled to immediately remove these items from the website or face a costly legal battle – at a minimum cutting off financial means, and likely shutting off the site and project entirely.

How would SOPA/PIPA impact Pokemon Universe?
Since the Pokemon Universe project has always been in the dark zone looking at the usage of copyrighted content, there was always the possibility of us getting shutdown by Nintendo/GameFreak. We tried to minimize this chance as much as possible by creating original content instead of using ripped content from the original Pokemon games.
Due to SOPA/PIPA all our effort will to go waste because in the end we're still using the "Pokemon" name and individual Pokemon names, so there's a high possibility we will get cease and desist and have to stop the project.

You live in Europe, why do you care about some piracy act in the USA!
It's true that the SOPA/PIPA doesn't affect us right away. But in time our goverments will follow the example set in the USA and we will get our own SOPA/PIPA.
Furthermore, about 50% of our userbase is from the USA, so it's likly we want to host game servers in America. But with the SOPA/PIPA this will not be possible.

What can I do to prevent this?
Congress will reconvene at the end of January, and with a long roster of supporters on both sides of the aisle, SOPA/PIPA could actually pass. The likelihood is so great that technology giants including Google, Amazon, Facebook and Twitter have gone so far as to publicly consider a simultaneous blackout in protest.

The Pokemon Universe project is opposed to SOPA/PIPA in their present form. While we do support efforts to prevent online piracy, the current form of this legislation comes at far too high a cost for us, our players, and online communities across the internet.

Help us take a stand. Write your congressperson today and voice your opposition to this misguided and harmful legislation:

News & Announcements / Happy 2012
« on: December 31, 2011, 05:27:27 PM »
Another year has come to an end. As you might have noticed, our website has a new layout. We thought it might be a good idea to  start 2012 with a fresh new design and continue our 2nd quest, becoming a respected Pokemon community.

It was a year where everybody was waiting with full anticipation for the beta release of Pokemon Universe. Unfortunately because of some real life stuff it got delayed (again) :( But there is still hope, we're working hard to make it happen as soon as possible. ;)

On the bright side. Our community has grown a lot this past year and I'm sure everyone has made new friends, especially with the guilds happening. In 2012 we will try to improve the community even more so it will become a well known thing next to our game. :)

So make this topic seem a bit informational I looked up some numbers for 2011:

New members
Total new registered members: 36,183
New members who posted on the forums: 565

Forum
Total number of posts made: 49,203
Number of members who posted: 976

Website visits
Total visits: 459,378
Unique visitors: 298,832
Total pageviews: 2,450,231
Average number of unique visitors per day: 839

Data traffic since 2009

Happy new year from the Pokemon Universe team!

Trainers Lounge / Searching for PUCT Commentators
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:52:05 PM »
I guess most of you heard of the Pokemon Universe Community Tournament which will be held this Saturday and Sunday. Well we had the insane idea to live stream all battles so everyone can watch the tournament. But just streaming the tournament is boring, so we need some commentators who can commentate each battle.

If you are interested in doing this, you have to meet the following requirements:
- Be available during the tournament!
- Have a lot of Pokémon knowledge. We're talking about types, attacks, moves, everything
- You have a good headset and can speak fluent English

So you're still interested and meet the above requirements. Post a reply in this topic which contains the following information:
- Where are you from (timezone)?
- What times are you available?
- Why should we choose you as a commentator?

Note: Just if this is not clear enough. I'm looking for AUDIO commentary, so not typed.

Commentator list:
- Silver|
- Genbor
- Yukimenoko
- Darkstar64

Trainers Lounge / NEW MEMBER?? READ THIS!!
« on: July 31, 2011, 02:08:32 PM »
On popular demand, now stickied.

Ez, what you might have noticed is not directed at newcomers. I joined during April and I never experienced any problems. Why? Because I was capable of piecing together a normal, comprehensible sentence and respectfully lay down ideas or have discussions.

I know I posted some things that have already been said, but I at least tried to search on that particular idea. It's toward newcomers that hostility is shown, it's toward those people who clearly did not take the minimal effort of at least searching for it, or look it up in the Game section. If they can't follow the rules and regulations because they stand above reading a text that was designed to give them a better time here on the forums, fine. But when somebody makes the thread about when the game is coming out, that's a bit too much.

So all you newcomers who read this post, here's my advice:

- Your posts should be comprehensible, in the sense that you should at least respect the people who will be reading your post with a readable sentence/wall of text.

- Please try to read up on the subject that you are interested in, whether about the Game or else. 'THE GAME' button is there for you to read about.

- Use the search function, I know it's not perfect and it's a bit hard to use, but once you get used to it, you will be surprised that it actually works. So please give the search bar a chance to prove useful.

- Read the rules and regulations, and try to keep to them. It provides a better experience for both you, and the readers.

- Try not to be offensive or inappropriate, you won't make too many friends that way. I'm sure you must know this by now.

- If you looked up on it, and still didn't find what you were looking for, we will be there to help you out.

- Although there's probably some more advice I could give you, my last one is this: Listen to what Jerry says.

Hope that cleared up this little misunderstanding, and of course we are looking forward to have more active newcomers. See you on chat or on the forums.

                                                                                              Cheers, Genbor

News & Announcements / [FIXED] Webchat problems
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:29:19 PM »
Rizon had some problems with their webchat client the last few days. But this is now fixed and you can use it again to connect to our chat channel!

If you don't want to depend on the Rizon Webchat, I suggest you use a real IRC client like mIRC, Chatzilla, IceChat, Colloquy, XChat or IRSSI

News & Announcements / [DONE] Infrastructure changes
« on: May 21, 2011, 04:36:10 PM »
I'm going to move a server to a new place, so the following services are not working:
  • - Mailserver (website registration)
  • - Online mapping client
  • - Maybe more.. dunno lol

The downtime is probably going to last for 1 or 2 hours. I'll be working as fast as I can to minimize this time.

Update: Maintenance is done and everything should work as normal again :)

Feel free to yell at me at IRC :3 Thanks for flying Pokemon Universe!
