Quests & Plots / Re: [Quest] A Dragon Tale
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:50:29 PM »
Things such as levels and pokemon are actually only minutely important when in the initial stages of planning quests. The team will always review, and re-review levels, pokemon, items, awards, etc. prior to officially releasing and completing a quest, and often times afterwards as well. In fact, these things have to be taken into consideration by the balance team as well as the story writers to ensure fair play throughout the game. That said, even Bagon might not be the pokemon you are after, but who knows. We do try to keep quests authentic to what the story writer had in mind, as it is his/her vision after all.

I do enjoy this quest, it is fairly short and simple, and to the point. However, it is obvious, as with any quest, that things will be reworked, and the whole thing will need to be fleshed out, and expanded...mostly just to give it a more authentic feel, as well as to create a more significant feel in the players mind. Do you remember The Incredibles? Did you see The Incredibles? There is a scene where the mom is flying a plane that gets attacked, and remember the guy that she phoned in a favour from? originally he was going to be the pilot in the movie, and was supposed to die, but because he had such an insignificant role, they cut him as it didn't have the same emotional impact as a more important character would. We would employ the same techniques here (if needed)

My biggest suggestions to this quest are as follows: 1) This should not be the only way to get a Bagon, just another method of doing so. Perhaps an easier method. 2) The player should have the ability (like in the show) to locate a new habitat for this pokemon he 'rescued', and possibly report back to the rangers (or another authority figure) about the location he discovered as a perfect home for the pokemon, spawning research and/or tourism to the area.

I recommend you continue writing about this quest (take my suggestion, or invent your own path), and expand on where this story goes...don't worry about fleshing out what you already have, as I said, that's the sort of thing that will be worked on as development proceeds, instead, see where this story takes your imagination elsewhere.

Lastly, while this quest does (so far) have my seal of approval, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be implemented into the game, but it does mean that it has a better chance of being considered.

General Chat / Re: Spirit's Q&A

Ok, I have a few Ideas for another episode....but I'm not convinced it would be even half as long as the previous ones (maybe that's a good thing?).

Anyway, just bumping the thread to see if I can get some more questions to choose from.
Please keep in mind, that I am also trying to get myself more motivated, and by participating in this little game of mine, I am more likely to work on PU more regularily.

Oh hey, I'm currently saving a new video....
And I regret to inform you, that this will be, tentatively, the last Answer Corner, until further notice. I just feel they are getting worse and worse, and to be honest, I don't really like them myself.....but there have been a few moments that I am proud of, such as the desert island one, the theme park thing, and the attack england episode, just to name a few.

So, unless I receive some outstanding questions, don't expect any more video's of this kind.
I will however, continue to make other types of video's from time to time.

Thank you for being a cool audience, and giving me more than three times as many subscribers as my musical friend....it makes me laugh that I beat him with such crap.

And with that.... a wild video appears! What will you do?
Fight  ||  Item
PKMN ||  Run

WAIT WHAT?!!

That's right PU, I am now back (more or less) from my hiatus (not only from Pokemon-Universe, but from being the insane guy you all love....you do love me right?...right?).

I have noticed that there seams to be a sudden popularity of Q&A's on the site, and so, I am officially rebooting Spirit's Answer corner

Please submit your questions so that I may make another shudder worthy video for you all to scoff at, and encourage me to spend more time on helping Pokemon Universe not only become more awesome, but actually helping the progress along, so that it may one day be finished.

SPIRIT WORKING?!!! LOLWUT?!!!

Here are a few suggestions for questions to get you started:
Spirit, how do I PU?
Spirit, why is there a flying Orca in my living room?
Spirit, what is 4chan? and what is [censored]? (sorry, can't break any rules)
Spirit, who would win in a fight? you, or Frenchfry?
...and so on

And damn any of you if I regret this! GRRRR!
Remember, by giving me incentive to be more active on the site, I also find it more rewarding to work on the game.
Thanks in advance

News & Announcements / Re: Name The Professor Competition (Part 2)
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:42:45 PM »
As a former apprentice to the great Prof. Oak, the now Prof. Alder was at one time known simply as Prof. Oak's Aide, and discovered his true desire for working on the field when he delivered the HM05 (flash) to the trainer: Red. Now years later, Prof. Alder has his own aides and works in a laboratory in Myrius, where he can only be found less then half the time. Most of the Professors time is spent wandering the land with his companion Ditto, who helps him study the true nature of pokemon by taking shape, and role playing their behaviors and habits. It is not unheard of to find Prof. Alder in a patch of grass acting like a rattata, or a mountain cliff throwing rocks like a geodude.

Periodically, the Proffesor will check in with his aides at his laboratory, and can be found doing the tedious, and (for him) grueling task of adding his research to his computer from the pokedex he has been collecting field data on.

WAIT WHAT? SPIRIT?!!!
Yes, yes, I'm here, and I even made an entry. OMFG, I know.
Also, what's that? my proffesor actually works on his pokedex instead of sending 10 year old little boys out into the dangerous world to do it? That's just CrAzY~

Oh, I would also like to let everyone know how hard it was for me to write such a short entry, and let Declan know how much of a prick he is for setting such a restriction on me!
>:(

I do believe there may have been once or twice that I did act rude, and I apologize for it, however, I would appreciate being told when someone thinks I am being rude to them; if you tell me you think I am being a jerk, I will apologize and try to stop.

Normally however, it is better to take what I have said as a joke; I know that is sometimes hard to tell over the Internet, but I really don't mean any harm.

But if people post questions about asking stuff like where they can download, I can't help but be a little annoyed. There is a button that says 'download', someone wanting to download would obviously click there, and see that there is no download button, and hopefully notice the text explicitly saying that you cannot. In these instances, I tease when I write my response, I am annoyed sure, but not trying to attack the individual.

Still, if you think I have been too rude in my approach, please tell me.
You're not helping me by not telling me what I did wrong.

General Chat / Re: Age Range for Target Audience
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:50:21 PM »
Since none of you actually know anything about the quests, let me enlighten you.

The story is being made with veteran players in mind, so people like myself, say ages 18 - 23ish, however, we are also trying to keep it as much like a classic pokemon game as possible, and with that in mind, the target age needs to be several years younger.

So there in lies a problem, We are making the game for probably ages 10 - 16 approximately,  but also trying to appease the people who grew up on the first games. This means, that some of the quests may have a little more mature themes, but we will refrain from portraying them in a mature way, as much as possible; this is no easy task.

Think of it like this, many anime that come out of Japan, are for an older youth audience in their original forms, but when they come to North America, and are dubbed into English, often lose much of what made them so mature; they are still the same show, but made for kids (which is a mistake in my opinion).

To summarize, Declan and I are doing everything we can to make this game for new pokemon fans, while reminding the veterans why they loved the originals, and bringing a slightly older age mind set into the game sometimes. As it is right now, I think we are doing a good job of making it fun for both, without crossing any borders.

I hope that all made sense.

News & Announcements / Happy Birthday Alais
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:16:42 AM »
Because once again, someone forgot to make a birthday thread, I am, once again, taking it upon myself to start one, this time for Alais. If you are unfamiliar with who Alais is, allow me to explain.
...Alais is our resident female (need I say more?)

As we all know, I like video's, so here is a double helping!
Whoa, all the way...it's so intense!

HAPPY
BIRTHDAY

Declan_23 and I are working on a new story line...So yes to your first question.
As for the enemy team, there will of course be something you will be up against (assuming you choose to follow the story line, which by the way, you don't have to do), but I am not telling you who the new bad guy team(s) is/are, at least not until we are closer to completion.
And as far as gym leaders go, nothing has been finalized yet, but you can place money (in our donation box) on them being all entirely new.

New Storyline, yes.
New Team, Im not sure, Jerry may know.....

Yeah, Jerry knows too much...I may have to fix that.
