Elemental Punches
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:24:16 AM »
I was thinking about a new way to implement the elemental punches into the game. Personally I think that any pokemon with arms and hands should be allowed to learn the elemental punches. But what I am thinking is instead of just learning them naturally or from move tutors they could be learned through the stones. Fire stone would teach fire punch, thunder stone - thunder punch, water stone for ice punch. What do you guys think about that idea.

Maybe have special teachers, bring specific stone to teacher and he then teaches the pokemon the way of that specific punch.

Not a bad idea. Just specifics might have to be implemented so that you can't just spam the stones for attacks that would unbalance it. Though it would add at least a little morte strategy to your parties. It would be entertaining to have a poliwrath that knows fire and sucker punch to take out the grass, ice and psychic types that oppose it

FALCON PAWNCH!!!

Thats a problem...

How about the same thing as Gold said, just they cant use punches of opposing types.

Water can't learn - Fire
Fire can't learn - Ice

Etc....In other words, Types must make sense

Yeah that would make sense. The pokemon that is on fire can't freeze someone.

Alot Of water Types actually can use Electric attacks, as to why I left it out.

Not a bad idea. Maybe just specify which Pokémon can learn each move. Not just:
"Tentacruel used Fire-Punch!"

You'd need to work out which Pokémon can learn each of the moves.

Nice idea.

I do think that the "opposing types" should be taken a step further though...

Why should someone be able to use opposing elemental punches? (ie, being able to use Fire and Ice in the same battle) Even a true fighting pokemon?

Wouldn't you have an issue trying to freeze something after you just hit something else with a fire punch?

I mean... My ice cream scoop doesn't even get really cold after heating it with scalding water and then scooping 3 scoops of my super awesome Strawberry Ice cream!

And that's a pretty far cry from Fire and Ice...

No duh he doesn't have arms or hands. It is quite obvious he has tentacles, therefore not fitting into the aforementioned requirement stating that a pokemon must have arms and hands so he wouldn't be aloud to learn the move. I really don't understand what you are finding so difficult about this.

Your point is somewhat valid but consider this, if I attacked something with a flamethrower and then doused it in liquid nitrogen. It will still freeze.

Pokemon are typically given moves only when they need them, for a variety of reasons.

For example, Flareon would likely be given Flare Blitz or some other Fire Physical move as it has amazing attack, but the only Stab it can make use of is Fire Fang.

An added move that has occurred in our balance changes has been Blastoise's Reflect - which we believe greatly adds to his versatility as both a supporting pokemon, and, a Physical Tank
